Chapter 219 Funeral
Gu Suixing paused for a moment, then quickly walked to the bedside.
The man on the hospital bed remained motionless, as if what Huo Yao had just seen was an illusion.
"I didn't see wrong!" Huo Yao said with certainty.
She was awakened by a fire in the middle of the night last night. She rushed out of her room in such a hurry that she was still wearing her pajamas and slippers. After arriving at the hospital, she was busy taking care of her grandson and her husband, and had no time to take care of herself. Her hair was always disheveled, and she was nowhere to be seen as the capable and strong woman she usually is.
Even the strongest and most capable woman is still a woman.
Seeing her husband, who had been lying in the hospital bed for many years, move slightly, Huo Yao, who was usually calm, had tears in her eyes.
Gu Suixing picked up Rui Rui and placed her on a stool next to the hospital bed. "Talk to your grandpa more. Maybe he'll wake up if he wants to see you. Dad will go downstairs to buy breakfast for you and grandma."
Rui Rui looked at Gu Zhenjun on the hospital bed and nodded seriously, "Okay."
Gu Suixing patted his mother's shoulder, said nothing more, and turned to leave.
Arriving at the breakfast shop outside the hospital, Gu Suixing didn't go in immediately. Instead, she went to the convenience store next door, bought a pack of cigarettes, and started smoking them on the roadside.
I learned to smoke abroad, and for a while I smoked a lot. Whenever I had free time, I would have a cigarette.
His wife doesn't like him smoking, and he rarely touches cigarettes when he's back in China, but today he couldn't resist.
When the old master of the Lu family passed away, he couldn't be by his wife's side. He took his son to visit his parents, but a fire broke out in the nursing home, which almost killed his whole family.
Nothing good has happened, and more and more unpleasant things are happening.
It would be a good thing if his father could wake up at this time.
Gu Suixing smoked only one cigarette, threw away the butt, turned around and went into the breakfast shop. After buying breakfast, he immediately returned to the hospital.
Today is Grandpa Lu's funeral. He will be taking Rui Rui there later, so he can't stay at the hospital for too long.
If he had just a little more time, he would definitely find the arsonist and teach him a lesson!
Rui Rui wouldn't let anyone feed him, so Huo Yao set out his breakfast for him and let him eat by himself.
Gu Suixing sat to the side, holding her phone.
Huo Huai'an just sent him a message saying that he had sent someone over and also called an acquaintance at the police station, and asked him when he was going to the Lu residence.
Gu Suixing replied "Later" and put down his phone.
After the little one finished eating, Huo Yao got up to clean up the trash, and Gu Suixing followed her out.
Stepping out of the ward, Huo Yao asked in a low voice, "Have you found out who started the fire?"
Gu Suixing shook his head. "Grandpa is still at the police station."
Huo Yao frowned.
It wasn't that she didn't trust the old man; it was just that the old man wasn't trustworthy.
There aren't many people who want their family dead, but the Gu family has a few.
As people get older, their hearts soften, especially when it comes to matters concerning their children and grandchildren. If this matter is truly related to his two illegitimate sons, who knows if he might protect them?
Huo Yao suppressed her anger and said in a low voice, "I'll have your uncle go and keep an eye on things."
Her husband, son, and grandson—each one is her bottom line. If last night's events were truly related to those two illegitimate children, she would risk her life to kill them!
Gu Suixing looked at her mother with some surprise.
His biological mother has always been strong-willed. Even though the old man had kept his father hidden from her for so many years, she never went back to her family home or asked his uncle for help.
This time, it seems they're really angry.
Not to mention Gu Suixing, even Huo Xiao was surprised when he received his sister's call. However, Huo Xiao didn't think much of it and readily agreed.
He only has one younger sister. If she doesn't ask for help, that's fine. But since she does ask for his help, Huo Xiao has to make time to handle her affairs personally, no matter how busy he is.
After hanging up the phone, Huo Xiao first sent his bodyguards to the hospital to help his sister, then called his son to find out the whole story. He then asked Huo Huai'an to withdraw the people he had sent to the police station, and he would go there himself.
Gu Zhenjun can't be without someone by his side, especially someone he trusts. Huo Yao stayed at the hospital waiting for her secretary to bring her a change of clothes, and also waiting for Huo Xiao's people to arrive.
Gu Suixing first took Rui Rui back to Xingheli. After the father and son cleaned up, they drove to the Lu residence.
-
The Lu residence hasn't been this lively in many years.
Everyone who came to pay their respects, both inside and outside the house, was dressed in black. At first glance, the entire place looked like a dark mass, so much so that this "lively" scene was permeated with a sorrowful and heavy atmosphere.
Gu Suixing waited at the entrance of the Lu residence for about fifteen minutes before Huo Yao arrived with her secretary.
Both of them were dressed in black, and Secretary Liu, who was following behind Huo Yao, was carrying a wreath.
Upon seeing Gu Suixing, Secretary Liu greeted him, "President Gu."
Although Gu Suixing did not return to Gu's Group, his position remained unchanged; he was still the CEO of Gu's Group.
Gu Suixing nodded slightly.
When someone saw Gu Suixing and Huo Yao, they quickly came up to greet them.
Before long, a group of people surrounded the mother and son.
They exchanged pleasantries and tried to get close to him, as if they were not attending a funeral but some event for fame and fortune.
Gu Suixing's brows furrowed almost imperceptibly.
"Dad." Rui Rui shook Gu Suixing's hand, gesturing for him to look ahead.
Gu Suixing looked up and met Lu Fengqing's gaze.
Lu Fengqing met his gaze for a moment, her expression softened, and she looked at Rui Rui, waving at her.
"Dad?" Rui Rui wanted to go to her mother, but she couldn't bear to leave her father behind, so she looked up and asked Gu Suixing what he thought.
Gu Suixing released his hand. "Go."
Rui Rui nodded and jogged towards Lu Fengqing.
Unlike Gu Suixing, who was his biological father without any official status, Rui Rui grew up in the Lu family and was a legitimate junior member of the Lu family. He was eligible to keep vigil as a junior member.
"Sui Xing, Aunt." Huo Huai'an also brought Huo Huai Sui over.
Huo Huai Sui obediently followed suit and called out, "Fourth Brother, Aunt."
Huo Yao didn't want to waste time talking to those who were trying to get close to her, so she glanced at the brother and sister and said calmly, "Let's go in."
Gu Suixing nodded.
Just as the mother and son were about to go inside, a soft gasp suddenly came from behind them.
The mother and son turned around at the same time and saw a familiar car parked in front of the Lu residence.
The bodyguard in the passenger seat got out of the car first, quickly walked around to the back seat, and opened the back door.
An elderly man dressed in black got out of the car, his calm gaze sweeping over the house which was covered with wreaths and white banners.
When Huo Huaisui saw the old man, he instinctively hid behind Huo Huai'an.
Huo Huai'an hissed, "Wasn't your old man at the police station? Why is he here?"
This old man was Gu Jinhong.
