Chapter 72 The Ex You Dumped
Tang Xingzhou initially hesitated about marrying the eldest daughter of the Lu family.
He and Lu Yuhan had been together for so many years. It was hard to say goodbye, but it also felt a bit tedious to continue.
Grandpa's attitude was very firm, and his parents' attempts to persuade him were to no avail, so Tang Xingzhou went to see that Miss Lu.
When they finally stood face to face, Tang Xingzhou looked at that face but was somewhat speechless.
Finally, it was the young lady who spoke first: "Is there something you need, Young Master Zhou?"
He snapped out of his reverie and asked directly, "Are you aware of our families' plan for a marriage alliance?"
Miss Lu calmly replied, "I know."
He then asked, "What do you think?"
Miss Lu didn't answer immediately. She raised her eyebrows and sized him up for a moment before saying, "Looks decent enough, not bad."
He was the young master of the Tang family, and everyone outside praised him, but unexpectedly, he could only get a "not bad" evaluation in Miss Lu's eyes.
It was both funny and sad.
But at that moment, something settled down.
Children born into families like theirs are not allowed to decide their own marriages.
Shortly after returning home that day, he broke up with Lu Yuhan.
Lu Yuhan was as obedient as ever. She didn't ask him why, but remained silent for a long time before saying, "Okay."
Just like with other women he had broken up with in the past, he compensated Lu Yuhan with many things, even though she might not have needed them.
I feel so relieved to be single again.
When his grandfather brought up the matter of the arranged marriage again, he agreed.
Perhaps to appease his mother, this marriage brought him many benefits, the most significant of which was that he gained real power in the Tang family and was no longer suppressed by his half-brother.
Before we knew it, the sky was already beginning to lighten.
Lu Yingliang and Wen Ying arrived.
When the couple saw Tang Xingzhou, they didn't lay a hand on him like Lu Fengyang had, nor did they utter a single curse at him; they simply let him leave amicably.
Tang Xingzhou said nothing and left the ward.
He bears a great deal of responsibility for Lu Yuhan becoming like this, and it's normal that they don't want to see him.
Lu Fengyang, who was standing outside the corridor, ignored him.
Tang Xingzhou went downstairs, but did not leave.
He stood at the quiet entrance of the inpatient department, gazing at the green landscape in the distance.
They called an ambulance and the police, so the matter couldn't be kept secret. Mrs. Tang found out about it as soon as she woke up in the morning.
Mrs. Tang called her son and immediately asked, "Did you miscarry?"
Having not slept all night, Tang Xingzhou looked exhausted, and upon hearing these words, he felt even more weary.
Although he knew the child shouldn't be kept, no matter what, it was still his child.
Mrs. Tang's voice suddenly rose: "I'm asking you if you miscarried the child!"
Tang Xingzhou closed his eyes briefly. "That's all."
Mrs. Tang breathed a sigh of relief. "That's good. If that child had stayed, what would have happened to Weiwei..."
Tang Xingzhou couldn't help but say, "Mom, that's my child too."
"So what?" Mrs. Tang said. "If you want children, then you and Weiwei should try harder and have as many as you want."
Tang Xingzhou's heart turned cold, and he suddenly asked, "I heard that you also miscarried a child before I was born."
After a moment of silence on the other end of the phone, Mrs. Tang spoke in a deep voice: "What do you want to say?"
"It's nothing," Tang Xingzhou said calmly. "Back then, my grandmother forced my father to marry my eldest brother's mother..."
Madam Tang's voice suddenly turned sharp, "Shut up!"
Tang Xingzhou asked, "When you were pregnant, did my grandmother ever say to you, 'It's good that the baby is gone'?"
Mrs. Tang almost screamed, "I told you to shut up!"
Tang Xingzhou felt a pang of heartache, but he steeled himself and continued, "I respect you as my mother. If you still want to acknowledge me as your son, let's leave it at that. Otherwise, I don't mind playing the role of my third uncle and running away from home. My eldest brother would be very happy."
Madam Tang gritted her teeth: "Are you threatening me?"
Tang Xingzhou: "I'm reminding you."
Mrs. Tang hung up the phone immediately.
His plan to take advantage of the situation and cause trouble for the Lu family was completely extinguished.
-
As soon as Lu Fengqing reached the bottom of the inpatient building, she saw Tang Xingzhou standing next to the flower bed.
Huo Huaisui had already told Lu Fengqing about what happened at the hospital last night, so Lu Fengqing wasn't surprised to see Tang Xingzhou here.
It's been a month since we last met.
The young lady was still the same glamorous young lady. Tang Xingzhou hadn't slept all night, his beard was unkempt, and his clothes were wrinkled.
Lu Fengqing walked up to Tang Xingzhou as if nothing had happened and asked casually, "Yuhan is awake?"
There were no pleasantries or small talk, but the first thing they talked about was other women and other things, leaving Tang Xingzhou with mixed feelings.
He said in a hoarse voice, "Not yet."
Lu Fengqing glanced at him and said, "Let's go back first."
Tang Xingzhou did not respond.
Lu Fengqing didn't know what else to say, so she simply stopped talking and walked straight inside.
As they passed each other, Tang Xingzhou suddenly asked, "Was that ex you dumped, Gu Suixing?"
Not long after their engagement, during a dinner date, he asked her about her past for the first time.
He knew his place; he wasn't exactly a saint himself, so he didn't expect his fiancée to have no past. That night, perhaps the atmosphere was good, or perhaps for some other reason, he blurted out the question.
He asked her if she had ever been in a relationship.
She was only slightly taken aback for a moment before answering his question with a smile.
She said, "I dated one. But I dumped him."
He stopped there and didn't ask any further questions.
He hadn't taken it to heart at first, but it wasn't until Gu Weiwei mentioned to him that night that Lu Fengqing and Gu Suixing were together that he slowly began to realize what was going on.
Miss Lu's heart was like a walled city, and no one could easily get in. No matter how good he was to her after their engagement, she remained polite and distant, and it seemed that her heart could never be warmed.
Gu Suixing wasn't one to easily accept women. He had encountered Gu Suixing a few times abroad; while others attended banquets with female companions, this young master brought a male assistant. Asking around revealed it was commonplace, with many saying the young master disliked women around him and avoided them like the plague.
Over the years, apart from Qin Xuan who suddenly appeared recently, Gu Suixing has only had Assistant Fang by his side.
Given their backgrounds, what kind of handsome men and beautiful women haven't they seen? It's absurd that they were attracted to each other based on their looks. The only explanation is that they knew each other before.
Lu Fengqing didn't expect Tang Xingzhou to still remember this, but she didn't intend to hide it. "Yes."
