The guy shook his head innocently. "I thought it was a trivial matter, so I didn't tell anyone. There were only a few demi-humans anyway."
"Where did you put them? Take me to see them." Reiner raised his eyebrows slightly.
Several people followed Lalith to the open space next to the house.
From a distance, Reiner saw several demihumans sitting around a simple campfire.
Hearing someone coming, they looked back and immediately huddled together in vigilance.
They are wolf-like subhumans with long tails and slightly lush facial hair.
They are a family of four, two older ones, a male and a female, with two little girls.
Nora stepped forward and soothed them softly, "Don't be afraid. You're safe here. Our master is a good human. He has built a kingdom here that allows demihumans to live."
The female Asian took a step forward. She had dark skin, bright eyes, and bulging muscles on her arms, as if she was the first one in the family.
Her eyes fell on Reiner, and she cautiously tested him: "Eh..."
(I don't know if this guy can speak our language, but he certainly doesn't look like a bad guy. That cat- and horse-like subhuman seems to be living a good life.)
"I know the language of the demihumans. You've traveled a long way from the south of the continent, right?"
The female demihuman was slightly startled, her wolf ears perking up. "There's a rumor that there's a kingdom in the north that accepts demihumans as citizens. We came here with the intention of giving it a try."
Reiner looked around, shrugged, and continued to ask, "Are there no other companions?"
"Originally, there was another family that was going to come to the North with us, but they encountered slave traders on the way, and then we got separated."
Reiner sighed.
The casualty rate of the subhumans along the way was too high. If conditions allowed, he would definitely build a green passage for the southern subhumans to pass through.
"You are the first demihumans to arrive here. Our kingdom does accept demihumans as citizens, but you will need to provide your labor in exchange for food. What can you do?"
The female demihuman drew the short sword from her waist. "I was once a warrior. I heard that the kingdom has just been established. I can go out and fight with the army."
The male demi-human glanced at her and whispered, "I can do some ordinary manual labor."
The two little demihuman girls bravely said, "We can pick berries and wash clothes!"
Reiner appraised them.
This female demi-human's fighting talent is quite good, it's epic.
Male demihumans are much worse, just of average quality.
"Then you can follow the orcs to cultivate farmland, or go mining, or go hunting. As long as you can support yourself and it doesn't violate the law, you can do it."
"Law?" The female demihuman looked puzzled.
Reiner raised an eyebrow. "These are the rules that restrict your behavior. For example, we prohibit citizens from killing each other. Violators will be punished according to the circumstances, either imprisoned or expelled from the kingdom. Even worse, they will be sentenced to death.
You can learn more about the details slowly."
After saying that, he tapped the ground with his staff, and a matchbox hut instantly rose up.
The female demihuman exclaimed, "Wow!"
Reiner nodded and said softly, "This is where you will live in the future. I live not far away. You can come find me if you need anything."
