Chapter 21 Family Situation

The counselor had heard from other students that Zhou Yi's family situation was not good, and it seemed that his mother was still working as a nanny at Su Qingjiao's house.

He didn't want to be too blunt, for fear of hurting the child's self-esteem.

After thinking about it, the counselor gently reminded him.

"Zhou Yi, the Zhou Group is the largest group in the A Group. If you have the opportunity to intern at a large company, it will be of great help to you in the future."

"Internship opportunities at Zhou's Group are extremely competitive, with thousands vying for limited spots. If you can get a chance to ask your friends or classmates for help, it will make it easier for you to get into Zhou's Group."

“I know you don’t want to please anyone, but if you can get along well with Su Qingjiao, you’ll have that friendship.”

"At least among thousands of people, you will not be treated differently, and you will feel fair competition."

"Fairness also requires personal connections."

"You are about to graduate. In school, you all competed for opportunities fairly. But in society, some things cannot be fair. I hope you can be more tactful, so that you won't suffer too much."

The counselor figured that Zhou Yi, being so smart, must have understood by now.

But Zhou Yi's next words made him feel that all his efforts had been in vain.

Zhou Yi didn't listen to his advice at all: "Thank you for telling me all this."

“I know that academia is different from society.”

"But I have my own plans. Please believe me, teacher. Even if I don't get along well with Su Qingjiao, I will definitely join the Zhou Group."

The reason is simple: he took over the Zhou family business after graduation.

As the heir of the Zhou family, do I need anyone else to get in?

Seeing how confident Zhou Yi was, the counselor couldn't help but shake his head inwardly.

Young people are so naive. They'll understand when they enter the workforce. Sometimes, success isn't just about ability. Su Qingjiao could easily eliminate Zhou Yi with just a word or a glance.

The counselor stopped trying to persuade him, thinking that it was better to let Zhou Yi experience it for himself than to say it a thousand times or a thousand times. Only then would he understand his good intentions.

The counselor changed the subject, saying, "Since you have your own ideas, I won't say any more. Come to my office this afternoon to pick up the application form for the financial aid for students in need."

“If I hadn’t heard from someone, I wouldn’t have known you were also a student from a poor family.”

"If you encounter any difficulties, just tell the school, and the school will help you in any way it can."

"Don't feel ashamed. If you had said so earlier, you would have received your financial aid for the previous semesters, and your life would have been better."

"Don't be shy about telling me how much money you've missed out on over the past few semesters."

Zhou Yi looked at the counselor, who was in his thirties and already had a lot of gray hair. He was very responsible for every student in the class and never discriminated based on their family background. He treated everyone equally. He was a good teacher.

Listening to his earnest words to me, I felt a little gratified.

After the counselor finished speaking, Zhou Yi politely replied, "Counselor, my family is not poor, so I don't need the poverty subsidy."

"Let the subsidies go to those who truly need them."

The counselor, having heard some rumors about him, frowned immediately upon hearing his words, her face hardening, and she said sternly:

“Zhou Yi, don’t blame me for being rude. I’m doing this for your own good. You’re about to graduate from the academy, so don’t force yourself to save face.”

“Although your family is poor, you got here on your own, so it is only right that you receive subsidies. No one will laugh at you.”

Zhou Yi was truly helpless.

This prejudice is a huge mountain; no matter what he says, the other party won't believe him.

Just then, the school bell rang.

"Teacher, I really don't need it. Don't listen to those rumors. My family is really rich. Never mind, I'll go back to class now."

Zhou Yi turned and walked into the classroom, only to hear a sigh behind him.

It seems they were disappointed by his pride.

The counselor sighed as he walked, and after returning to his office, he took out the application form for the student in need from his folder, his brows furrowing involuntarily.

"What's wrong? Is it because there are too many people applying for financial aid for students in need, making you undecided?" A colleague made a cup of hot milk and sat down to chat with the counselor.

The counselor gave a complicated smile, then sighed, "Isn't it strange? There are actually people who don't want to accept the poverty subsidy."

"I specifically asked the dean to give me an extra application form; I was originally planning to give it to Zhou Yi."

"But Zhou Yi... well, he's a good kid, but he's a bit too concerned about saving face. He doesn't want to fill out the application form."

"I guess they're afraid that if they submit an application, they'll feel inferior to others at school."

Upon hearing Zhou Yi's name, his colleague immediately lost interest, shaking his head with a tsk: "You mean Zhou Yi? When I came here today, I saw him arrive at school in a Bentley."

The counselor was taken aback: "A Bentley? A luxury car! Wow, I've never ridden in one before."

"Is his family really rich?"

My colleague rolled her eyes: "Su admitted he didn't have any money. He rented it, and he lied about everything to save face and save face. I really don't know what to say..."

The counselor clicked his tongue in amazement.

Thinking about what she had heard from her classmates and Su Qingjiao's expensive clothes, the counselor's impression of Zhou Yi instantly dropped.

She was both angry and disappointed: "Zhou Yi is a very diligent student. I used to think he was quite promising and that he might make something of himself in the future."

"But what happened today makes me feel that Zhou Yi's pride has gone too far."

"I never expected him to rent a luxury car to come to school today just to save face. I'm afraid that if this continues, his vanity will ruin him. Sigh, why does this kid have to do this?"

The counselor shook his head, as if he had already seen Zhou Yi's future through today's conversation.

If Zhou Yi cannot get rid of his vanity, he will be hunted down by loan sharks in the future and live a muddled and hiding life for the rest of his life.

Thinking of this, the counselor felt a pang of pity.

He immediately turned on his computer, wanting to retrieve Zhou Yi's information.

As a teacher, he absolutely couldn't watch Zhou Yi go astray, but the other student was so concerned about saving face... No, he couldn't give up on any student.

I must find an opportunity to have a proper talk with Zhou Yi.

Lunchtime.

Hao Min hurriedly finished her lunch in the cafeteria, wanting to go to the classroom to see if Zhou Yi was there.

Zhou Yi usually eats lunch in the classroom and never steps into the cafeteria. This behavior led everyone to believe that Zhou Yi was poor and therefore brought his own lunchbox.

But after yesterday's incident, Hao Min noticed something was amiss.

Zhou Yi did bring his own lunchbox, but no one has ever seen what food was in it.

Everyone assumed that Zhou Yi's family was poor, and automatically imagined that his lunchbox must be a simple meal of vegetables. They were even afraid of hurting his self-esteem, so they avoided him when he was about to eat.

But after what happened yesterday, what if Hao Min starts to think of Zhou Yi as a rich second-generation?
