Chapter 140: The Spot Was Taken

Chapter 140: The Spot Was Taken

Xu Yihuan didn't hesitate and accepted it, sticking it to the inside of her clothes; she really needed it right now.

She was in such a rush to leave that she completely forgot about the hand warmers.

Why are you still here?

"You can leave right after dinner, I'll take over your shift."

They said it at the same time, then looked at each other and smiled.

“Okay,” Xu Yihuan replied.

She should have been able to leave earlier, but she was forced to stay for a meal.

"Isn't this your boyfriend, Xu? He does look more attractive than the guy in the private room."

James's voice rang out from behind him again.

Xu Yihuan glanced at Tan Zhixu, who was looking at her lazily with a smile in his eyes.

A blush crept up Xu Yihuan's ears, but she still forced herself to remain calm and denied it.

"Don't joke around, Mr. James, I'm still single."

James's gaze swept over Tan Zhixu's face, and he saw the disappointment in his eyes as he had hoped.

He shrugged regretfully: "Alright then, Xu, I misunderstood..."

Xu Yihuan thought the matter was over, but who knew that after James returned to the private room, his gaze often fell on Zhou Yanzhe, and he looked thoughtful.

This meal filled Xu Yihuan with trepidation.

In the afternoon, Xu Yihuan and Tan Zhixu handed over their shifts.

Xu Yihuan finally had the chance to wear proper thermal underwear and pull her down jacket all the way up, but since the student representatives had not yet been determined for the afternoon, Xu Yihuan still had to maintain her appearance.

Xu Yihuan only lay in her dormitory for a little over half an hour before packing her things and going to the lecture hall with Lu Anlan.

"I heard from Huihui today that a lot of people in our class are absent, and Pei Yutang is not here either. Hey, that's strange, why haven't we seen her for the past few days?"

Xu Yihuan then remembered that she had hardly paid any attention to Pei Yutang since she last saw her at a department meeting.

"I don't understand, they must have gone home for the Chinese New Year?"

Lu Anlan said dejectedly, "After a day of activities, I realized how tired I am. I also want to go home for the New Year."

As soon as Lu Anlan finished wailing, a cool voice entered her ears: "Then go back home for the New Year."

Lu Anlan immediately closed her wide-open mouth.

What are you doing here?

Tan Zhixu, dressed in his uniform, walked beside Xu Yihuan, not even bothering to glance at Lu Anlan.

"You're such a busy person, always having to do events, so I don't want to."

Lu Anlan choked up. Didn't he say that graduating was enough?!

"Oh, you must be very busy." After struggling for a while, Lu Anlan could only manage to utter this sentence.

"Making conversation when there's nothing to say," Tan Zhixu scoffed.

Lu Anlan got angry and grabbed Xu Yihuan's hand, pouting, "Huanhuan, look at him!!"

Xu Yihuan handed Lu Anlan a hand warmer to comfort her: "Okay, don't be angry. We still have activities to do later, so don't catch a cold."

She had been holding her hands out all morning, and she knew best how uncomfortable it was to have your hands frozen outside.

Lu Anlan slowly and deliberately tore off the paper on the back of the hand warmer, then stuck it on herself, occasionally giving Tan Zhixu a provocative look: "As expected, our Huanhuan is still the best."

Tan Zhixu glanced at her lazily out of the corner of his eye and scoffed, "I gave you the hand warmer too."

Lu Anlan froze for a moment, then gritted her teeth.

She wanted to be defiant and tear off the heat packs, but the heat packs were already warm, so she couldn't bear to part with them.

The group of people, playfully bickering, walked to the bottom of the administration building.

The lecture hall is on the third floor.

Upon arriving at the administration building, the three of them seemed to be sealed away, stopping abruptly and becoming much more serious.

Half an hour before the leaders were to take their places, the lecture hall was only occupied by teachers and some students who were still preparing.

Xu Yihuan found a corner to sit down and took out her tablet to look at the original speech.

Since Tang Wanhua hasn't informed us yet, the original plan shouldn't change.

Xu Yihuan breathed a sigh of relief, but also felt a faint sense of anticipation.

To be honest, this was both an opportunity and a huge challenge, since it was my first time giving a speech entirely in English, and I had to do it without notes and without making any mistakes.

Although I had already spoken with the professors from CAM this morning, I still couldn't help feeling nervous in front of the audience and my own school's leaders.

Xu Yihuan looked up from her speech.

A familiar figure sat down diagonally in front of him.

It was Pei Yutang, whom I hadn't seen for a long time.

The auditorium was well-heated, and Pei Yutang wasn't wearing a coat.

She was wearing a black suit, and her hair was tied in a ponytail, making her look very capable.

The light reflected off her face, suggesting she was also looking at a tablet. From the side, Pei Yutang's eyes were lowered, and her expression was equally serious.

Xu Yihuan's previously upturned lips pressed into a straight line, and her heart sank.

She seemed to have guessed something, but was hesitant to believe it.

Take a deep breath and force your attention back to the tablet.

After looking for several minutes, my gaze became unfocused, as if I had lost my focus, and I couldn't concentrate on anything.

My heart is beating faster.

Just then, a message popped up on WeChat.

[Huanhuan, you don't need to look anymore. The spot was indeed given to someone else by that old hag.]

Xu Yihuan looked at the message and couldn't quite describe the feeling in her heart.

She should have breathed a sigh of relief, knowing that no more mistakes would be made.

But why do I feel so sad?

Xu Yihuan stared blankly at the words on the tablet, her eyes downcast. These were words she and Tang Wanhua had translated bit by bit...

They researched a lot of information and spent several days on it...

Xu Yihuan's eyes were a little sore.

"Xu, what are you doing here?" It was James. He seemed to be in great energy, having arrived at the school earlier than the other professors.

Xu Yihuan was startled, but quickly composed herself, suppressing the tears that were about to well up, and forced a not-so-good smile: "Professor, I... I wasn't in charge of the translation activity this afternoon, so I'll just sit here and watch."

"If you need anything, please let me know. If it's inconvenient for you, you can also tell my colleague."

James nodded, not taking it to heart.

He squinted at Xu Yihuan for a few seconds, then asked in a gentle and refined manner, "What are you looking at? Can I see it too?"

Xu Yihuan hesitated for a moment. Logically speaking, it shouldn't work, but it was already considered a scrapped draft.

Xu Yihuan reached out and handed the tablet to James.

James casually found a seat, sat down, and flipped through the book.

"It's very well written. Unlike the manuscripts I've seen before, which are almost all filler, this one has a rare solid content."

James nodded repeatedly.

Xu Yihuan gave a wry smile: "It's alright, but I guess we won't need it."

"What did you mean by 'it's not needed'?"

She didn't know how to answer, so she said, "I'm sorry, this is an internal arrangement within the college, so..."

James nodded knowingly; he had indeed been asking too many questions.

James handed the tablet to Xu Yihuan.

"Okay, I asked too many questions."
