Chapter 143: Come Back to CAM with Me
Every detail on the Kyoto University campus is meticulously crafted, even the restrooms are brightly lit.
Zhou Yanzhe walked to the sink and splashed water on his face.
Through the clear mirror, Zhou Yanzhe could see his own expression very clearly.
It was pathetic and ugly.
The water in winter was so cold it chilled him to the bone, instantly clearing Zhou Yanzhe's mind.
As I turned to leave, a shrill cell phone ringtone broke the silence of the empty restroom.
Zhou Yanzhe was forced to stop and picked up his phone to look at the caller ID. It was his mother, Chen Yanxin.
I gripped my phone tighter, feeling a bit irritated.
The phone rang incessantly until it automatically disconnected, even though I didn't answer.
Just as Zhou Yanzhe breathed a sigh of relief, the phone rang again like a madman, as if it would keep ringing until he answered.
Zhou Yanzhe closed his eyes, suppressing the irritation in his heart.
Answer the phone.
He tried to keep his voice as soft as possible: "Hello, Mom."
Why didn't you say you weren't coming back for New Year's Day?
Just as Zhou Yanzhe was about to explain, the other person said, "Hey, never mind. How are you doing at Peking University? Has your relationship with Huanhuan improved?"
“She clearly liked you so much before. As long as you take the initiative to make amends, you will definitely be able to get back together with Huanhuan.”
When Zhou's mother called, on a day like New Year's Day, she didn't offer a single word of concern, and all she talked about was Xu Yihuan. Zhou Yanzhe's rebellious streak resurfaced.
Thinking of Xu Yihuan also made me feel awkward.
He said coldly, "I understand."
After saying that, he hung up the phone without waiting for Zhou's mother to say anything more.
Just as I turned to leave, before I had taken two steps, I suddenly bumped into a familiar figure.
"Hello, you must be the student taking the photography class today. I vaguely remember you."
Zhou Yanzhe was feeling upset at the moment, and when James greeted him, he didn't bother to respond.
"Hello, Professor." Zhou Yanzhe nodded slightly with a cold face, still displaying the aloof and academically gifted demeanor he had in high school.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to eavesdrop on your phone call."
Zhou Yanzhe frowned. He had already heard everything, so why was he still saying all this?
"If I'm not mistaken, you probably like Xu, right?"
"But Xu and another male classmate are a couple, right?"
Zhou Yanzhe didn't know what James was trying to say, so he just stared at James without saying a word.
James saw Zhou Yanze's wariness, smiled, and explained, "Here's the thing, I think you'd be perfect for studying at CAM. I'm James, a psychology major."
As James spoke, he took out his business card.
He genuinely found it amusing. Zhou Yanzhe was like a complex being; he clearly liked Xu Yihuan, but dared not approach her. Moreover, under his mother's isolation, he seemed to deliberately oppose his mother, which made him even more resistant to Xu Yihuan.
He was curious whether it was due to the parenting style, or something that had happened to this person in his childhood that made him instinctively unwilling to listen to his mother.
Upon hearing this, Zhou Yanzhe was about to refuse without even thinking.
He didn't want to go to Country E, and he certainly didn't want to study this damn psychology.
James seemed to have read his mind, and a second before Zhou Yanzhe could speak, he slipped the business card into Zhou Yanzhe's pocket.
“I’m not rushing you to give me an answer so soon. You can consider it until March next year. If you change your mind then, it’s not too late to contact me.”
After James finished speaking, he turned and left.
Zhou Yanzhe frowned, took the business card out of his pocket, and threw it into the trash can.
My hand is already right above the trash can; if I let go, the business card will fall down.
Zhou Yanzhe paused for a moment, but in the end, he casually put the business card back into his pocket.
Never mind, it's not a big deal. An extra business card won't take up much space.
After the lecture.
Xu Yihuan had no tasks, so she prepared to return to her dormitory.
As you walk along, strings of small red lanterns hang from the branches of trees outside, creating a festive atmosphere.
But Xu Yihuan had no interest in appreciating it.
Although nothing unexpected happened today, I felt inexplicably tired, and I don't know why, but I just couldn't muster any enthusiasm.
Why did Pei Yutang suddenly get the spot, and even Tang Wanhua was kept in the dark?
Xu Yihuan seemed to have already guessed the outcome.
Xu Yihuan looked down at her toes, her mood low as she walked towards her dormitory.
"Hey? Yi Huan? What are you doing here?"
The voice was gentle and familiar, and Xu Yihuan subconsciously stopped and looked up at the person who had come.
It is Pei Yi'an.
Xu Yihuan's heart stirred, and her bright eyes flickered.
"Yes, I'm here to participate in the event."
"You didn't go home for New Year's Day?"
As Pei Yi'an spoke, he casually took Xu Yihuan's hand and started reminiscing.
Pei Yi'an gasped when she touched Xu Yihuan's cold fingertips and immediately withdrew her hand.
Was her hand too cold? Xu Yihuan subconsciously pulled her hand into her sleeve.
Pei Yi'an didn't notice Xu Yihuan's actions, as she was rummaging in her pocket.
He took out two heat packs and put them on Xu Yihuan.
Why are your hands so cold?
"Quickly put on some heat packs."
"Why are you wearing such thin clothes in this weather?"
Actually, Xu Yihuan wasn't dressed very lightly; a down jacket plus thick thermal underwear underneath was enough to keep her warm.
She had taken off her coat while giving a speech inside, and when she went outside, she subconsciously didn't pull it all the way up, so the wind blew in and she felt cold.
Xu Yihuan forced a smile, but couldn't quite manage it.
"It's okay, Auntie, I'm not cold."
"Do you have an event too? It's the same one as Tangtang's, right? You need to pull your coat up." As she spoke, Pei Yi'an personally pulled up Xu Yihuan's coat and also put her hat on.
Only when I was completely covered up did I feel half relieved.
However, Xu Yihuan didn't want to say much, and just gave a soft "hmm".
Pei Yi'an only noticed that Xu Yihuan was in a low mood, but didn't know why.
Just as I was about to say something more, another voice came from behind me.
"Auntie!! What brings you here?"
Pei Yi'an subconsciously turned her head to look over. Pei Yutang seemed unafraid of the cold, not wearing a coat, only a thin-colored suit, her eyes bloodshot, as if she had suffered a great injustice as she appeared in her line of sight.
Pei Yi'an was startled and quickly went over.
"What's wrong, Tangtang? Why aren't you dressed?"
Xu Yihuan glanced at the two people, scoffed, and turned to leave.
Pei Yutang shook her head: "It's okay, I'm not cold, Auntie. Are you here to pick me up? Let's go home."
She was afraid that Pei Yi'an would find out about her embarrassing situation, so she dared not let Pei Yi'an in.
However, Pei Yutang forgot that even if she didn't say it herself, these things would reach Pei Yi'an's ears in a thousand ways; it was only a matter of time.
Pei Yi'an subconsciously turned her head to look at Xu Yihuan, only to find that Xu Yihuan had already walked far away. Looking at Xu Yihuan's back, Pei Yi'an had an indescribable feeling in her heart.
My heart feels heavy.
Seeing this, Pei Yutang tugged at Pei Yi'an's sleeve: "Aunt?"
Pei Yi'an then came to her senses: "Okay, let's go home."
