Chapter 189,/.

The first chapter begins.

The protagonist of the story is fleeing down an alley, pursued by a group of debt collectors. In his eyes, they are nothing less than man-eating demons. This small town suffers from poor security, with numerous deaths from violence each year, yet no one cares.

Not to mention the debt collectors, who are used to bullying others by taking advantage of their power and have no regard for human life. If you have a good relationship with the police, the cops will help the evildoers.

Here, whoever has money and power has the final say.

Living in a prosperous world, there are always termites sprouting in the invisible darkness.

"Stop! Stop, kid!" The group of people behind him were chasing him relentlessly, and when they couldn't catch up, they kept cursing at him with unbearable words.

Is this some kind of unified language? Why do those who chase and beat others always say "stop"? Only a fool would stand there and let you hit them!

As someone who was born and raised here, he was very familiar with the environment. The boy swiftly hid in the firewood pile at the corner. The space here was small and dark, making it difficult to be discovered.

The debt collectors ran here and realized they had lost the boy. Suspecting the boy was hiding there, they searched everywhere for him with a flashlight. When the light shone on the firewood pile, the boy closed his eyes and turned away in fear.

"Brother, there's a figure over there that looks a lot like that brat. Should we chase after him?"

The leader retracted the flashlight and spat at the ground, "Chase! We have to catch this guy and give him a good beating today."

As the surroundings returned to silence, the young man slowly emerged from behind the firewood. He wore a solid-colored hurdle tank top and shorts, his flip-flops torn from running so fast. He sat dejectedly on the side of the road. The streetlights were all broken, leaving the area completely dark.

The dog in the yard barked furiously at the noise, and the owner yelled at it to shut up. Someone in the dilapidated building broke something, and a man's voice rang out, along with sounds of beatings. Then, after the silence, the soft sobs of a woman could be heard.

Then everything disappeared into darkness.

The boy pulled a wrinkled pack of cigarettes from his pocket. The cigarettes inside were damp. His lighter was very difficult to use. He pressed it repeatedly before a faint flame came out.

He took a deep drag, then slowly exhaled. The incongruous smoke dispersed in the air, seemingly blending into the darkness. The taste of the cigarette was unpleasant, acrid and bitter, just like his life.

The surrounding environment is like a garbage dump, dirty, smelly and turbid.

The food he had bought was lost on the way, and the boy took out the money he had and counted it. It seemed that there was not enough for another purchase, so he would just make do with one meal tonight.

After going to the vegetable market to buy things again, the boy entered an old and dilapidated house with an indescribable smell in the air and dust. This was his home.

Everywhere in the neighborhood, the word "demolition" was painted red, and even his own home was no exception. The young man stood outside the dilapidated door, and as soon as he opened it, he saw the unusual pair of cloth shoes.

"Xiao Yi is back." His mother was the first to come out to greet him. Seeing that his new shoes were broken, she knew what had happened to him. The woman sighed, took the food from his hand and told him to wash his hands. "Go wash your hands first. Mom will cook. You can eat soon."

The boy just stood outside the door, watching the drunk man eating peanuts leisurely.

The man noticed his gaze and met his eyes with a fatherly look. He reached out and scratched the top of his sparse hair, grinning, "Xiaoyi is back. Hiccup, how are your grades lately? What's your ranking in the grade?"

He simply ignored him, washed his hands, and went to help the woman cook.

"Hey, you're so rebellious! Your dad is talking to you, what's your attitude?"

The woman busy in the kitchen shuddered, her head trembling as she lowered her head to cook. The boy helped wash and chop vegetables, leaving the drunk alone in the living room to make a scene. The woman tugged at his clothes, asking him to go and comfort him, but the boy didn't want to and simply turned back to chopping vegetables.

After the meal was ready, the woman was responsible for serving the dishes, and the boy brought in two bowls of rice.

"Only two bowls?" The man had an obviously unhappy expression on his face.

The woman glanced at her son and saw that he was still eating quietly. She sighed and prepared to serve the rice. Just as she stood up, she was pulled back by the young man. He slowly said, "Eat."

The woman hesitated to speak and had to sit down again.

The man was furious when he saw this. "Su Jiayi, what do you mean? Your father rarely comes home, so it's okay if he doesn't serve me food, but why are you giving me a cold shoulder? If it weren't for your good grades, I would have spanked you a long time ago!"

"You, go get me some food! I'm starving!" the man cursed. "It's bad enough that your son is like this, but you don't have any sense at all."

Su Jiayi still didn't let his mother get up. Instead, he picked up a large piece of meat and put it in her mother's bowl. "If you want to eat, go get it yourself. The kitchen is not far from here. Take as much as you want." He lowered his head to pick up the dishes. "You are not disabled. You have hands and feet. Can't you do it yourself?"

The woman gently pulled his sleeve to stop him.

"Have you grown up? How dare you talk to your father like that!" The man laughed in anger. "It's so rare for me to come home once in a while. It's okay that you didn't call me when you came in, but is it so difficult for you to serve me food? Do you still take me seriously? Do you even have me as your father?"

"Father?" Su Jiayi interrupted him, as if she had heard a funny joke. "How often do you come home? What do you bring to this family every time you come back? Who's paying off all the gambling debts? You've ruined my mom's job, and now she doesn't dare go out at night!"

The man finally stood up after being stabbed in the heart, pointing at Su Jiayi and cursing, "You little bastard, if I hadn't fed you well, would you have grown up like this? I'm out there making money, and you treat me like this?"
