Chapter 8: Temptation
Yin Xiu's eyes darkened. He felt he was being pushed too far. To be more precise, the other party was testing him to see if he could push his luck further.
The atmosphere between the two of them froze again. Yin Xiu didn't want to respond, and the other party didn't let go either.
In the silence, a shrill scream came from another room not far away. This time the voice was very familiar, even Yin Xiu could clearly distinguish that it was the cry of the little girl.
Before I could even catch my breath for two seconds, another shout was heard. It was a terrified figure, moving in panic, running from the house to outside, screaming all the way.
Yin Xiu quickly withdrew his gaze from Li Mo, quickly stood up and opened the door of the room where the little girl was.
She was still inside, holding her bunny stuffed animal with a confused look on her face. "What's wrong?"
"It's okay, don't come out." Yin Xiu closed the door, turned and walked to the window, and quickly pulled open the curtains in the room.
A blinding light instantly filled the room, making it impossible to open your eyes. Almost immediately after opening them, a strange face slammed against the glass window, sending shivers down the spines of the players outside the screen.
It was a pale woman with bloodshot eyes. She leaned against the glass window and looked into the house as hard as she could, as if she was looking for something. She kept muttering, "Is it here? Is it hidden here?..."
For Yin Xiu, who had seen the Queen's face close to his for the night countless times, this scene was nothing. He indifferently passed over the woman in front of him and turned his head to look outside.
The scene outside the house seemed to be in a remote mountain village, which didn't quite match the small town in the background prompt. The house he was in was an ordinary small bungalow, each one was very small, with only enough space for a family to live.
The neighbors next door are players from other dimension towns who are also in this dungeon. Everyone occupies a space and carries out the early plot of the dungeon together. As the plot progresses, they will gradually come out of their respective areas and join together.
At this moment, a player, frightened to the point of insanity, stumbled and fell onto the grass outside the house. He clutched his head in fear and looked towards his house, his pupils dilated. "Dead... She's dead... She was killed... I'm going to die too... I'm going to die soon..."
He muttered something incomprehensible, and as he did so, his hands slowly rose up uncontrollably.
Before Yin Xiu could figure out who the "she" he was talking about was, the player suddenly grabbed his neck, cutting off all sounds in his throat.
His hands seemed to be controlled by some invisible force. No matter how the body resisted instinctively, he still held the player's neck tightly without letting go until the player's face turned purple and his eyeballs bulged. In front of everyone, after struggling for a long time and sobbing, he fell to the ground with his eyes rolled back.
"What the hell...what happened?" Voices from other rooms came nearby, full of shock and astonishment.
This is a novice copy, and most of the people inside are new. They have been staying in their rooms since they woke up. They were a little scared when they saw such a scene for the first time.
"He's dead! He must have broken the rules!" someone shouted in panic.
"Which rule did he break? I'm so scared!"
"It's so scary all of a sudden..."
With the discussions coming from the side, Yin Xiu had no time to be shocked by the death of the player. He slowly turned his gaze to the woman who was now lying in front of his glass window.
He remembered that the man had just been mumbling that "she" was dead. This "she" must be in his room, otherwise he would not be so frightened as to rush out of the house. Then, the only woman in his room whose death could affect his survival was the little girl.
It wasn't that he broke the rules, but that he didn't keep an eye on the little girl, causing her to break the rules.
"Is he inside... Is he hiding inside?" The woman in front of the window was still clinging to the glass, staring inside with her eyes fixed on it, mumbling something in her mouth, with no intention of leaving.
When she even noticed the little girl's things in the house, a big smile slowly spread across her face, her pupils shining, "I saw it, there are her things in the house! She is in the house, she must be hidden in this room!"
Copy survival rule five: Do not open the door to anyone outside and hide the existence of the little girl.
And mom’s note number three: Don’t open the door to anyone, don’t let them see you.
The rule that appears on both pieces of paper must be an extremely important one, which is that no one outside can discover that the little girl is hiding here.
If the door is accidentally opened and someone outside discovers the little girl in the house and comes in, the result may be the same as that of the player just now.
The woman at the window became more and more excited, as if she wanted to verify her idea. She tried to push the door in, but the door was locked.
After realizing this, she immediately turned around and walked out, still muttering, "I'm going to get others to look for her! I absolutely have to find her!"
"Wait!" Yin Xiu's eyebrows jumped and he quickly called her. The mention of other people gave Yin Xiu a bad feeling in his heart, "Who are you looking for?"
The woman chuckled and turned around, a sinister expression emanating from her pale, bloodless face. "Girl, a little monster girl, is she hiding in your house?"
"She's not at my house," Yin Xiu denied calmly. "I only have one daughter. She's studying out of town and hasn't come back yet."
"Daughter?" Yin Xiu's calm and nonsensical words startled the woman. She didn't react for a moment. After a two-second pause, she belatedly continued, "So that's your daughter's..."
While she was still not reacting, Yin Xiu quickly asked, "What are you going to do now that you've found that little monster girl?"
A strange smile appeared on the woman's pale face again. "She is a monster, a scourge to the town. Of course she must be killed!"
It was obvious that the player's mistake was to accidentally let the woman enter the house and kill the little girl, but judging from what the woman said just now, if she became suspicious, even if she couldn't enter the house now, she would call for someone to force her way in.
This person probably has to deal with it perfunctorily, otherwise the consequences will be unimaginable.
My thoughts paused for a moment, and the woman in front of me leaned against the glass window again, her eyes rolling around in a very eerie and strange way. "You look very young, you don't look like you're married and have a daughter who's old enough to go to school. Your age... doesn't match?"
The comments instantly swirled in panic: "Holy crap, are the monsters this clever these days? Is this still the same novice dungeon I went through?"
Yin Xiu hadn't expected her to suddenly start such a tricky questioning. After a few seconds of silence, he replied expressionlessly and coldly, "Adopted."
"Oh? You're so young, and you're adopting a daughter who can go to school?" The woman's smile suddenly became meaningful. "What's your reason? Or do you not have a daughter at all, and she's the one in the room?"
Yin Xiu sighed calmly, "What other reason could there be? I can't have children, so I adopted them. Is there any other reason for adoption?"
"Can't have children? Who can't have children? Your wife can't have children? Or you can't have children?" The woman pressed more and more maliciously, smiling as if she had the initiative. "Could it be that you don't even have a wife, so you adopted a child first?"
Under the woman's sharp questioning, Yin Xiu calmly turned sideways, revealing Li Mo sitting in the corner of the room, "He can't have children."
The woman looked inside, and her originally sharp and arrogant demeanor froze the moment she saw Li Mo.
A man? My wife is a man? ...Then she is definitely infertile.
But this... this...
The other party's actions were so chaotic that she couldn't regain control for a moment. She was stunned for a while before continuing: "So since you two can't have children, you adopted a daughter?"
"Is there a problem?" Yin Xiushi said confidently, his eyes narrowed. "You can kill a little girl casually, but I can't adopt a daughter and hold her in my hands?"
The expression on the woman's face became strange and unpredictable, but she couldn't find any other faults. After hitting a wall with Yin Xiu, she could only slowly take two steps back. "Okay, I believe that the things in your house belong to your daughter. Just don't let me find her."
She said, turning around and heading to the other players' doors.
As the other person turned sideways, there was a sudden thud from the door behind Yin Xiu, as if something had hit the door, instantly attracting the attention of the woman outside.
Her face quickly pressed back against the glass, her eyes wide open as she looked around the room, her voice becoming excited, "Isn't your daughter away at school? Whose voice was that in the room just now?! Was it her?"
