Chapter 296 Ye Jia will remember his brother’s life-saving grace

Yin Xiu turned around.

In the room where food is stored, you can hear the sound of a hungry child. This is not right...

The guard who had just replied turned pale, and two people nearby immediately came out to drive Yin Xiu away, and then one of them opened the door and went in.

Because they were far away, Yin Xiu couldn't see what was going on inside, but it was obviously not the granary they were talking about.

But because of Yin Xiu's approach, many villagers around were paying attention to him. Yin Xiu didn't say much and slowly turned around and left.

He memorized the location of the granary and returned to the woman's home.

As soon as I reached the door, I heard the angry voice of a strange man coming from the house, "How come I didn't know you had a younger brother? Tell me the truth, where did this wild man come from?"

"If I say he's my brother, then he's my brother! What time is it now? It's hard enough to survive, and I still have time to find a wild man? Go do your thing! Don't sit here and look for trouble!" The woman cursed in return, and immediately the sound of tables and chairs being overturned was heard in the room.

Yin Xiu pushed the door open and entered the room, just in time to see the man holding a wooden stool and walking towards the woman. When he turned around and saw Yin Xiu, his face suddenly darkened.

"It's you, right? The younger brother they are talking about. This Hai Village has been closed for a long time, and suddenly a younger brother like you appears. You are really capable of coming in." The man walked towards Yin Xiu while holding a wooden stool, trying to give Yin Xiu a show of power as soon as they met.

But just a second before the wooden stool was about to hit Yin Xiu's head, a cold light flashed, and the fragile wooden stool was split in half by a knife. Before the man could even react, Yin Xiu's knife was unsheathed.

Facing the stool that broke into two pieces in his hand, the man was stunned and realized that the man in front of him was not easy to mess with.

He retreated back to the woman and vented his anger on her, "Who the hell is this guy you brought back? He's stabbing me straight away! Do you think he can kill me while I'm unconscious?"

The woman ignored his anger, which made the man even angrier.

If he couldn't lay a hand on Yin Xiu, could he lay a hand on his own woman? He raised the half of the stool in his hand and prepared to swing it, but Yin Xiu instantly drew his sword, and the long blade was placed against the man's throat. Behind the cold light, Yin Xiu's eyes radiated a threat.

"Don't hit a woman."

The man couldn't hold back his expression, and gritted his teeth, "This is my wife, I can beat her if I want, it's none of your business!"

Yin Xiu kicked him into a corner and stared at him coldly, "It's only natural for you to bully the weak, so it's also only natural for me to hit you, right?"

The man glared at the woman with a dark face, hoping that she would take care of Yin Xiu, but the woman completely ignored him.

Facing Yin Xiu, who was holding a long knife and had a dangerous look in his eyes, the man gritted his teeth and didn't dare to make a sound for a long time. He was really afraid that the shining knife would fall on him.

"Okay, okay, I won't do anything." The man finally chose to swallow his anger with a look of reluctance in his eyes. This strange man came to his house and pointed a knife at him, and he had no way to deal with it. He felt awkward and angry. He looked at Yin Xiu and then at the woman, spitted a sigh of bad luck, and went out.

After watching the man walk away, Yin Xiu put away the knife and turned to look at the calm woman. "Does he always treat you like this?"

"I'm used to it," the woman replied calmly. "After the disaster in Hai Village, everyone's a bit irritable."

She didn't want to talk about family matters so she changed the subject. "Where did you go today? It seems that everyone in Hai Village saw you."

"I went for a walk." Yin Xiu sat down and looked outside. He had been here for a while, but for some reason it was almost dark and the black fog had not arrived yet.

"Didn't the black fog that attacked last time appear at irregular intervals?"

"Well, sometimes it comes twice a day, and sometimes it doesn't come for a few days." The woman nodded nonchalantly.

Yin Xiu took note of it in his heart, hoping that he could see the sacrificial ceremony before the black fog came. However, rather than the ceremony going smoothly, he was more looking forward to something unexpected happening during the ceremony.

Thinking of the small wooden house he had visited during the day, Yin Xiu sat down against the wall and slowly closed his eyes to take a nap. He needed to wait until late at night when everyone was asleep to go and check it out.

The whole afternoon was very quiet, and the man did not come back until nightfall. Perhaps he was afraid of Yin Xiu sitting at home, or he was away on something else. Yin Xiu did not care.

As soon as it got dark, Yin Xiu stood up with his knife in hand, ready to go out and take a look.

The woman who was taking a nap in bed opened her eyes and said, "Don't get yourself into trouble. If you anger them, you will really die."

Yin Xiu waved his hand and walked out the door.

There were few people at night and no lights were on in every house, so it was extremely dark, making it very convenient for Yin Xiu to sneak around.

He followed the route he had taken during the day and slowly moved towards the location of the cabin in his memory. Even though he couldn't see anything clearly, Yin Xiu could still remember everything here. He had been in the dark for a long time, and his body could remember everything.

When he got to the location near the cabin, he saw several figures swaying.

This is the only place in the entire sea village where lights are on. The bright bonfire on the ground is swaying in the sea breeze. The guards are still standing at the door motionless, just slightly dozing off.

Yin Xiu silently gripped his knife, rushed forward quickly in the night, swung the scabbard, and several people fell to the ground with a muffled sound.

The people in the cabin heard the sound and screamed, "Who is it?"

Yin Xiu squatted down, picked up a piece of firewood, then turned around and pushed the door. When it wouldn't open, he simply said, "Stand back a little. I'm going to chop the door down."

The person inside moved, then whispered, "Retreat..."

Yin Xiu nodded, then drew his sword in an instant, and a complete door was split open. Behind the door was revealed a girl of fifteen or sixteen years old. She was wearing tattered clothes and her face was dirty. She huddled in the corner and stared at Yin Xiu timidly.

Yin Xiu looked around the room. It was empty. There was nothing there except the little girl. It didn't look like a granary at all.

Under the girl's uneasy gaze, Yin Xiu put away the knife and looked at her, "You are the sacrifice, right?"

The girl was stunned. "How do you know?"

The girl's response confirmed Yin Xiu's thoughts. "The granary... a place to store food, but there's a person inside. Either the villagers are eating people, or they're preparing to offer them to the gods. Either way, if you continue to stay here, you'll die sooner or later."

The girl shivered, then stood up on tiptoe, peeked outside, and saw several villagers lying at the door with pale faces.

"If they find you opening the door, they'll kill you!"

"It doesn't matter." Yin Xiu pulled the girl up and turned to lead her to the edge of the village. "You'll die if you continue to stay here. Let's go."

"But...but if I run away, what will you do?" The girl's face was full of worry. "Besides, I have a younger brother...If I leave...my brother won't be able to survive."

She was about to stagger away when she suddenly stopped and froze in her tracks. "No, I can't just leave like this! I have to take my brother with me."

"That's fine." Yin Xiu didn't care. As long as he could leave before the villagers found out.

Seeing that Yin Xiu was willing to save her and even let her stay, the girl was very touched. "Thank you for saving me, strange big brother. Ye Jia will remember your kindness!"
