Chapter 43 The Ladder of Inquiry

On the other side, the communication scale in Long Qianling's space lit up. She took it out and saw that Long Yan's voice came through.

"Long Ling and A Qi want to see you. Do you have time?" Long Yan asked.

Long Qianling frowned. She knew who A Qi was—Long Yan's younger brother—but who was Long Ling, and why was she looking for her?

"What do you want with me?" Long Qianling asked.

"Borrowing the Dragon Ball," Long Yan didn't mince words and directly explained the situation.

"Dragon Balls?" Long Qianling frowned. Those were the Dragon Clan's most precious treasures; how could he easily lend them to others?

“No way!” Long Qianling refused decisively.

"Young Master, they had no choice but to do it to save people..." Long Yan's voice trailed off. They weren't even human, but to keep her younger brother from being upset, she could only deceive the young master.

Long Qianling remained silent for a moment. She had a good relationship with Long Yan, and since Long Yan had pleaded with her, it was hard for her to refuse. After all, the clan leader's code clearly stated that one should serve the clan members and meet all their needs, and she was the young master of the Dragon Clan and the future clan leader.

"Alright, I agree to meet them, but the matter of the Dragon Balls should be discussed in person." Long Qianling finally agreed.

"Thank you, young master!" Long Yan beamed with joy upon hearing this.

"Stop talking nonsense, where are they? I'll just go find them." Long Qianling said irritably.

Long Yan laughed and quickly told her the location of Long Qi and the other person.

She was connected to Long Qi by blood, and could sense his location with a simple sense of touch, so she clearly told Long Qianling their location.

"Alright, I understand." After saying that, Long Qianling cut off the connection and threw the scale into her own space.

Long Zhenzhu, who was standing to the side, looked at her and asked, "Young Master, what's wrong?"

Long Qianling glanced at her. "I'm going to find someone. Do you want to come with me?"

"Wherever Young Master goes, I will go!" Long Zhenzhu nodded hastily without asking who she was looking for.

Therefore, Long Qianling took Long Zhenzhu with her to Long Qi's location.

Along the way, Long Qianling pondered to herself, what kind of person would need to borrow the Dragon Ball to save their life? She couldn't help but be filled with curiosity about the person Long Qi was going to save.

Long Yan didn't tell her that it was actually someone else who wanted to borrow it, but she knew Long Ling, who was her younger brother's good friend. If she didn't help, her brother would definitely make a fuss with her.

Soon after, they arrived at where Long Qi was.

When Long Qi saw Long Qianling arrive, he hurriedly went forward to greet him.

"Young Master!"

"You want to borrow the Dragon Balls?" Long Qianling looked at the two boys standing in front of him.

Long Qi spoke to her very familiarly, while the other one seemed a bit reserved.

Long Qianling didn't want to waste time with them and asked directly why they wanted to borrow the Dragon Ball.

Long Qi turned his head and glanced at Long Ling, who had been keeping her head down, and said, "A Ling saved a fox, but the fox's consciousness was severely damaged and it needs a dragon pearl, so..." He didn't finish his sentence, but Long Qianling already understood.

So he came to borrow the Dragon Balls to save a fox, not to save a person...

Long Qianling was speechless for a moment.

Looking at Long Ling, who had been keeping his head down and not daring to speak, he coldly asked, "Do you know that the Dragon Pearl is not an ordinary object, but a treasure of our Dragon Clan?"

Long Ling's fingers twitched nervously, not daring to look up at Long Qianling, her voice soft, "I...I know."

"I knew you were coming to borrow it, and you still did it, just to save a fox!" Long Qianling didn't want to say anything more to them and turned to leave.

Seeing that she was about to leave, Long Ling panicked. Her body moved faster than her mind, and she ran directly to Long Qianling and blocked her way.

"Young Master, just this once, please..."

"Get out of the way!" Long Qianling shouted.

"No, unless you agree to lend it to me," Long Ling said defiantly. He couldn't let the little fox die; the little fox was so badly injured, how could he ignore it?

Seeing his nonchalant attitude, Long Qianling's eyes gradually sharpened, and she exuded a chilling aura.

"You dare to stop me for the sake of a fox?"

Long Ling gritted his teeth and persevered; he couldn't give up.

Seeing that the situation was not good, and knowing that Long Ling was a persistent person, Long Qi was afraid that he would anger the young master and then he would be the one to get hurt. So he quickly ran over and pulled Long Ling behind him.

"Young Master, I'm sorry, Ah Ling acted impulsively. Please don't be angry."

Long Qianling looked at Long Qi, then at Long Ling.

"The Dragon Balls are not something that anyone can borrow as they please. A fox is just a fox; once it dies, it's gone." Her tone was icy, and her golden eyes looked at the two boys in front of her without any warmth.

Seeing that she was about to get angry, Long Zhenzhu quickly stepped forward and said, "You two, stop arguing. The Dragon Pearl is a sacred object of the Dragon Clan. The young master has his own difficulties in not lending it to you."

"Stop making things difficult for the young master. If you want a spirit pet, go to the Hundred Beasts Garden and find one."

"No, I want this fox." Long Ling still refused to back down. "It's so badly injured, I can't just watch it die."

Long Qianling frowned. She didn't understand what was so special about that fox that made him so persistent.

Long Qi glanced at Long Qianling's expression and sighed inwardly.

His friend was not only kind-hearted but also stubborn; once he set his mind on something, he would do it no matter what, and no amount of persuasion could change his mind.

"Are you really determined to save that fox?" Long Qianling stared intently at Long Ling.

Long Ling looked back at Long Qianling, her eyes filled with determination.

"yes"

He knew the young master wouldn't lend him the Dragon Ball so easily, but he couldn't give up in order to save the little fox.

The two stood facing each other, and the atmosphere became tense.

Long Zhenzhu and Long Qi were at a loss for words; one couldn't persuade him, and the other dared not.

Looking at his resolute expression, Long Qianling suddenly let out a sneer, pointed to a large mountain not far away, and said with a playful tone.

"You can have the Dragon Balls, but you have to climb the Ladder of Heart. I'll only give you one night."

The other three looked at the towering mountain peak that seemed to pierce the clouds, and a sense of awe welled up in their hearts.

That is the Dragon Clan's Ladder of Inquiry, the so-called Inquiry into one's own heart.

Those with bad character will find it difficult to climb to the top of the mountain.

Countless people have been trapped in the illusions of their own minds within the "Ladder of Inquiry," unable to escape—they can't even count them on two hands.

Long Qianling's request was simply impossible.

Long Ling looked at the mountain, his expression hardening. He knew all too well how difficult the Ladder of Inquiry was, but he showed no sign of backing down.

"Okay, I promise you, but you have to keep your word!" Long Ling turned around resolutely and took firm steps toward the Ladder of Inquiry.

Long Qianling was slightly taken aback, looking at his departing figure with some surprise.

She just wanted him to back down, but she didn't expect him to agree.

"Ah Ling!" Long Qi saw him leave and quickly followed.
