Chapter 47 A very slender waist is perfect for being held.
Oh no, I said one too many words!
Hearing voices, he quickly covered his mouth.
This sentence doesn't count. Starting from the next sentence, he won't say a single sentence to He Mu that exceeds five words.
They must maintain a distance of at least five steps from each other!
Hearing the voices, she immediately started counting and moved back a few steps.
He Mu was unaware of Wen Rensheng's complicated thoughts. He watched as the child, with his chubby cheeks, walked further and further away, all the way out of the earth god temple, and almost retreated to the riverbank outside the temple.
He Mu stood still, and his sword flew behind Wen Rensheng, pulling him forward to prevent him from falling into the river a second time.
"Where are you going, Sheng Sheng?"
He Mu said helplessly,
"I know you're still angry. Let's go find the clan chief first, okay?"
Feeling a chill on his lower back, he stopped and turned to look at the voices.
He was only inches away from the man-eating river when Se Sha stopped him.
He liked the sword very much, and didn't want to involve others in his conflict with He Mu, so he didn't impulsively shake off Se Sha, and softly said "thank you".
Se Sha seemed very happy to see him again. He shook his sword and even lay down on the river, as if indicating that Wen Rensheng should step on him to cross the river.
Hearing someone's voice, he waved his hand and said, "No need, don't do that..."
Se Sha could understand human speech. After hearing Wen Rensheng's words, he straightened his sword, picked up a paper lantern from the shore, and handed it to Wen Rensheng.
Hearing a voice, he looked and saw it was the ever-burning lamp that he had set aside.
The lamp wick had gone out, but fortunately, the fog ahead had cleared considerably, and a path leading to other checkpoints could gradually be seen.
"Sound after sound".
He Mu had somehow ended up standing next to Wen Rensheng and even nudged him lightly with the back of his hand.
“We’re going to the Rebirth Platform now. You won’t know the way if we go any further. I’ll lead you, okay?”
Startled by the voice, he dodged several steps, his sword blocking his way and forcefully separating the two.
"Didn't we say to keep our distance?!"
He Mu estimated the distance between them and said, "Isn't this enough?"
Upon hearing human voices, the tail of the bird thrashed anxiously back and forth.
"Of course not, you should..."
He stopped mid-sentence, blushing, his expression a mixture of grievance and embarrassment.
No, that's not right. I can't talk to him that much. They're complete strangers now, so why bother with all that interaction?
Ignore him!
Thinking this, Wen Rensheng glared fiercely at He Mu, then steeled himself and stepped across the river, walking towards the path without looking back.
"Hey!"
Having been left behind once again, He Mu stood there, his outstretched hand awkwardly frozen in mid-air.
They ran away again.
Wen Rensheng has always had this temperament since childhood. Not only is she sensitive, but she is also prone to overthinking, and it is common for her to suddenly get angry.
He's furious right now, practically bursting into flames. I bet even if he bit his tongue, he'd still manage to pin all the blame on himself.
He Mu knew he couldn't rush things and had to be patient in coaxing him, but the voices wouldn't even give him a chance to get close. What was he supposed to do...?
Just as he was fretting over this, he suddenly caught sight of the silver mask lying on the ground, and a flash of inspiration struck him.
He Mu quickly raised his finger to retract his mask, and with Se Sha, hurriedly followed Wen Rensheng's steps.
*
Tianxin flew very slowly, and when it heard human voices, it felt embarrassed to keep stepping on it, so it quickly got off the sword.
He sighed softly, sheathed Tianxin sword, and walked dejectedly toward the Rebirth Platform.
Having acquired divine power and personally killed his own kinsman, he should be overjoyed to hear people's voices, but he can't feel happy at all.
During the two years he stayed in Cangzhou City, Wen Rensheng rarely thought about seeing He Mu again, but putting aside those feelings, He Mu was his most important family member, and he couldn't help but miss him.
Regardless of his feelings, he never hated Mu. He was just angry with him and wanted to blame him for abandoning him.
As he walked, he heard voices and fidgeted with his fingers, lost in thought.
A short while later, a cool breeze blew from behind, and He Mu stepped off the sedal and walked to Wen Rensheng's side.
"Sounds?"
"..."
Hearing voices, he ignored them and quickened his pace.
He Mu quickly caught up and gently grabbed his shoulder.
“Shengsheng,” he said hastily, “how about this, you don’t have to answer me, just listen to me, and I won’t bother you anymore after I’m done, okay?”
He spoke very quickly, sounding genuinely anxious, and his tone even carried a hint of pleading, causing Wenrensheng to slow down.
I'll just listen for a bit, then leave.
Hearing voices, he thought.
Seeing that he was starting to back down, He Mu quickly put on her silver mask and said, "If you don't want to talk to He Mu, just treat me as Murong He, okay?"
The masked face contained a spell that could alter one's appearance and voice. As soon as Mu's voice entered one's ears, it transformed into Murong He, whom one had only met twice.
For some reason, even though I knew they were the same person, the sound of their voices calmed me down, and I stopped resisting contact with Mu.
He stopped, glanced quickly at He Mu, then looked away and whispered, "And then?"
Mu tentatively touched Wenrensheng's hand and said, "Shengsheng, you're unhappy, and you feel it's not good to blame me, so you feel frustrated and upset, right?"
Hearing someone's voice reveal their thoughts, they slightly curled their fingers.
He was a very well-behaved child from a young age. He rarely got angry and never showed any displeasure to the clan leader or his master. The only person he would lose his temper with was He Mu.
But Mu never minded this, and always said that it was a good thing that Wenrensheng could vent his emotions without reservation in front of him.
But after they separated these past two years, Wen Rensheng gradually lost her sense of security and no longer wanted to give her emotions to He Mu without reservation.
Hearing someone's voice, she sniffed and said petulantly, "I used to always hold my bad temper for you, but I've changed now, isn't that enough?"
"Did you change it willingly, Sheng Sheng?" He Mu tentatively took Wen Rensheng's hand and said in the gentlest way, "What's wrong with you getting angry with me? You're still young, it would be strange if you didn't get angry."
Hearing someone's voice, he glanced at him but still ignored them, and then tried to turn and run away.
Before she could run even a step, He Mu grabbed her hand.
This time, Mu held hands very restrainedly. She didn't force Wen Rensheng to interlock their fingers. She simply wrapped his hand in her palm, just like when they were children.
“When we get back, it doesn’t matter if you hate me, despise me, or get angry with me, but at least for now, I want to help you fulfill your wish.”
He Mu looked at him, her brows furrowing slightly.
"Sheng Sheng, for the sake of the clan leader, I'd like to make peace with you temporarily... Is that alright?"
Hearing the voice, he obediently stood still, his hands unconsciously clenching tighter.
They've made up for now...
If it's to see the clan leader's spirit.
If it's to properly send him off, and temporarily put aside those worries to get along well with He Mu, then it doesn't sound too hard to accept.
Moreover, Mu spoke so gently that Wenren's nose started to sting, and if she didn't agree, she would embarrass herself by crying again.
He sobbed quietly, then lowered his head and replied in an almost inaudible voice:
Is it temporary?
He Mu nodded quickly: "Yes, it's temporary. You can be angry with me all you want when we get back."
Hearing the voice, he hesitated for a moment before slowly turning around and meeting He Mu's gaze.
"...It's only temporary."
The reconciliation was temporary, but once he returned to the mortal realm, he would still adhere to his principle of ignoring Mu.
He Mu finally breathed a sigh of relief.
A smile spread across his lips, and he couldn't resist pulling Wen Rensheng over and kissing her cheek.
Not satisfied with just one kiss, she covered his ear with another, whispering "Thank you, Sheng Sheng" in his ear.
Hearing the voice and being kissed, his face turned red. He quickly pushed He Mu away and said urgently, "Making up temporarily doesn't mean that!"
"Okay, okay, that's not what I meant," He Mu said with a smile, "but at least we don't have to keep our distance anymore, right?"
Hearing voices, he remained silent, his fingers twisting the hem of his clothes.
After a moment of silence, he looked up at He Mu, then quickly peeled off his silver mask and threw it aside.
“You don’t need to wear this,” Wenren muttered. “You are you, you don’t need to pretend to be someone else.”
"And if you kiss me while wearing this, what nonsense will you spout about me with other men..."
"Hmm?" He Mu asked, puzzled. "What other man?"
"N-nothing!" Hearing the voice, he shook his head and stammered, "Let's hurry up and go, or the clan leader will be reincarnated!"
"How could it be so fast... Hey, Sheng Sheng!"
He Mu couldn't call out to him at all. Hearing voices, he ran away like a fleeing rabbit, disappearing several miles away in the blink of an eye.
*
They ran and chased each other all the way, and finally, panting, they arrived at the archway of the Rebirth Platform.
The closer one gets to the land of reincarnation, the fewer the broken and wandering ghosts there are; instead, rows of healthy souls appear.
Holding their respective numbered tokens, they waited for reincarnation before the Bridge of Helplessness.
Two ghostly soldiers stood on the bridge, one holding ghost money in his hand and the other carrying a bronze mirror in his arms, blocking each soul that came up.
The two people who heard the voices were at the back of the line.
He Mu leaned close to Wen Rensheng's ear and whispered, "The ghost money is for tolls, and the bronze mirror is for looking at one's merits and demerits in life to determine which cycle of reincarnation one enters."
Hearing the voice, he nodded and said, "I've seen it in storybooks."
He Mu said, "These people are all queuing up on time. Let's find out the year Wenren Jing passed away."
The line leading to the dead was very long, stretching as far as the eye could see from the entrance. Mu and I casually grabbed a soul and asked about its age. After roughly estimating, we determined that it would take at least seven days to get to Wenren Jing's place.
Seven days have passed, and the Soul Separation Technique is almost over; time is too tight.
Instead of queuing, He Mu took the Yin-Yang Token from his waist and led Wen Rensheng to a nearby "Wuchang" inn.
There was no innkeeper in the inn; there was only an empty red rope in front of the counter, and an abacus on the table.
He Mu hung the Yin-Yang Token on the rope, explaining, "This token belongs to the Heavenly Court. It can be used to summon Wuchang and have him take us there."
Wenrensheng watched as he moved the abacus beads, seemingly adjusting them to the year Wenrenjing passed away.
After a few moments, He Mu let go of her hand.
The abacus started working on its own, putting the beads back in place after they had been rolling. After a few clicks, a chill ran down my spine as I heard voices.
Turning around, he found a figure wearing a white hat and with a long tongue staring at him.
This figure is also famous in the mortal world; people recognize him by his voice, for he is Bai Wuchang (White Impermanence).
Bai Wuchang bowed to the two men and said with a smile, "Are you two esteemed officials from Heaven?"
"They were sent by Lord Si Ming," He Mu lied through his teeth, "to find the soul of a demon. Lord Wu Chang, could you lead the way?"
White Impermanence narrowed his eyes to slits and quickly bowed: "Oh, it's Lord Siming! I'll take you two there right away! But this one—"
He drew out the word, his gaze falling on Wenrensheng.
"Is it a monster too?"
Hearing the voice, it wagged its tail and cautiously gripped its sword.
"It's a monster. Can't we let a monster pass?"
Bai Wuchang quickly shook his head, revealing a fawning smile: "Of course not, whether human or demon, you are all esteemed beings from the upper realm. I will take you two away right now!"
After saying this, Bai Wuchang conjured up a long and narrow palm-leaf fan, on which he wrote the four characters "One glimpse brings wealth" in red ink.
He flattened the palm-leaf fan, making it large enough to support three people, and then respectfully made a "please" gesture.
He Mu then put his arm around Wen Rensheng's waist and pulled him up.
Perhaps because the movements were so natural, and she didn't resist much when she heard voices, she was led up by He Mu.
The palm-leaf fan was raised slightly, and the journey to the afterlife began.
He Mu stood a little behind Wenrensheng, holding his sword, his gaze unconsciously falling on Wenrensheng's waist.
...I just ran into him.
Her figure is still the same as when she was sixteen. How much could she have changed? Wen Rensheng's waist is very thin. If she wasn't wearing clothes, it would probably be about the size that he could wrap his hand around from behind.
Slightly below is the tail position.
He only curls his tail up during his mating season; otherwise, it hangs naturally behind him with a slight curve at the tip, making you want to touch it.
He had touched Mu many times before, although it wasn't out of lust at the time, but he accidentally learned a lot about Mu's sensitive spots.
Speaking of which... how did Wenrensheng get through her heat cycles during the two years I was away?
