Chapter 4 Could it be that you're hiding your true abilities?

Chapter 4 Could it be that you're hiding your true abilities?

Wen Rensheng was not yet old enough to learn how to hide his emotions, and He Mu quickly noticed his unusual behavior.

He turned his head to look behind him, and there was a furry head resting against his lower back, its hands tightly gripping his clothes, its body trembling.

He Mu frowned slightly and subconsciously reached out to touch his head, but hesitated and withdrew his hand halfway through the movement.

"I hear a voice," he said, then asked, "What's wrong?"

Hearing the voice, she pursed her lips, not looking up, and said softly, "I think I've been here before."

The Guiyi Sword Sect heard someone say that they had visited three years ago.

Of course, he didn't come here voluntarily; he was kidnapped by Chen Lian. If he hadn't run away in time after hearing the voices, he would have almost been refined into a pill to cleanse his spiritual roots by Chen Lian.

I was too young then, and I don't remember the specifics of what happened. What I remember most is that Chen Lian grabbed his tail and called him a "stray dog" several times.

I hate the phrase "hearing human voices," but I can't help feeling sad every time I hear it.

He truly had no home, no one to support him, and Chen Lian was right about that.

He Mu glanced at Chen Lian, who was kowtowing on the ground, and asked in a low voice, "Have the people here bullied you?"

He nodded upon hearing a voice, then shook his head.

"Only Chen Lian bullies me."

He Mu stroked his chin thoughtfully for a moment, then tentatively asked, "Only him? Is there anyone else who knows?"

Upon hearing a voice, he truthfully replied, "I don't remember."

After hearing Wen Rensheng's account, a hint of displeasure rose in Mu Xin's heart. He clicked his tongue inwardly and glared at Chen Lian with murderous eyes, as if pondering how much merit he could gain by killing this bastard.

Such cruelty towards a child would have been fatal in the past; Mu's sword would have already been aimed at Chen Lian's neck.

Hearing the voices, he didn't notice He Mu's gaze. He took two deep breaths, seemingly trying to suppress his fear.

The mountain god is here; nothing will happen.

He said to himself silently.

I just told Mu that I am from Fangze Mountain, that I am his person, and that I am under his protection.

Even hearing human voices makes me not want to give up on the family I've finally met. I'll try my best to overcome this little fear.

The thought of "home" instantly swept away the negative emotions he felt towards He Mu. He looked up at He Mu and hooked his little finger with He Mu's.

"Okay, I'm fine now."

He smiled at Mu Canran, his eyes narrowing into slits, and said, trying to catch his breath.

"Whatever you need to do, I can be with you. We'll fight side by side."

Upon hearing this, He Mu withdrew his killing intent from Chen Lian and shifted his attention to Wen Rensheng.

Come to think of it... he had just felt something was a little strange.

He had at least shown his divine nature on the snow mountain, so why wasn't this child afraid of him at all?

Her magical power was so weak it was almost endearing.

Hiss... Could it be that he's hiding his true abilities?

He was actually the reincarnation of a colleague from Heaven, possessing a more powerful divine status, which is why he did not show any fear.

!

He Mu's expression hardened, and he immediately swept his scrutinizing gaze over Wen Rensheng, looking him up and down.

Thinking about it that way, it really is strange.

The person's skin was smooth and fair, clearly indicating that she was raised in a wealthy family, but her clothes were so tattered that it seemed like she was deliberately disguising herself.

And the shadow of that tail behind it was never completely hidden, and it kept insisting that it was "human". What kind of monster is this stupid?

That's highly suspicious.

He Muyue found it increasingly strange. He frowned, reached out to grab Wenrensheng's collar, and prepared to interrogate him.

However, he only got halfway through the action when he met Wen Rensheng's gaze.

The innocent-looking child was completely unaware of his thoughts, and simply winked at him, his eyes shining with a pure and innocent light that almost blinded He Mu.

"..."

Forget it, that's probably impossible.

He Mu looked at Wen Rensheng's dirty little face, withdrew his hand, rubbed his forehead, and sighed.

What am I thinking about...?

Wen Rensheng waited for a while, but neither he nor Mu made any further moves.

He tilted his head in confusion, about to ask something, when He Mu raised his hand and wiped a speck of dust from his cheek.

“You look too much like a beggar,” He Mu frowned. “I’ll take you to change your clothes in a bit.”

Oh no, I've been laughed at!

Hearing voices, he opened his eyes wide and looked down at his apricot-yellow cloth shirt.

Is it really that disgusting?

Although he did try to appear pitiful, he shouldn't have actually fallen to the level of a beggar!

"Not at all."

Hearing someone's voice, he muttered something unhappily.

He chuckled and casually ruffled his hair.

It feels surprisingly nice to the touch, like touching a ball of fluff.

*

While the two were talking, Chen Lian fainted again due to excessive blood loss.

The cultivators within the sect finally noticed the commotion at the entrance and turned their attention to this place.

Upon hearing voices and seeing the situation, he quickly coughed twice and straightened his tattered clothes.

He too will eventually enter the immortal sect to cultivate the Dao, so meeting with his fellow cultivators beforehand naturally needs to be a bit formal, like the mountain god's meeting...

Thinking this, he looked up and stole a glance at He Mu.

Surprisingly, the mountain god was not as serious as he had imagined.

He crossed his arms, his cloak trailing halfway on the ground, and leaned lazily against the doorframe, looking as if he didn't even want to open his eyes.

Hearing human voices, he was terrified.

How could this be!

Before the shock could subside, a blue-robed cultivator with his hair tied up rushed in from within the sect, respectfully bowed to He Mu, and asked:

"Master Daoist, when do you wish to seek out members of the Sword Sect?"

Hearing the voice, he was a little unhappy. This person only bowed to He Mu and did not notice him standing next to He Mu.

Could it be... a problem with my posture?

So, following He Rensheng's example, he crossed his arms, tried to turn his mouth down, and desperately tiptoed, trying to get the cultivator's attention.

Unfortunately, all his efforts were in vain; he was simply too short, just a tiny little guy.

He Mu noticed his little gesture. Instead of answering the cultivator's question directly, he looked at him with a half-smile and tilted his head towards the direction of the voice.

"Um?"

The cultivator then followed his gaze and saw Wenren Sheng standing to the side—

There was also a dusty mess on the ground, covered in blood and the person unconscious.

"Ah!" The cultivator's face turned deathly pale, and he cried out in alarm, "This...this...isn't this...Junior Brother Chen Lian?"

He Mu then slowly revealed his purpose: "I want to find his master, whose name is Wu Di."

As the cultivator knelt down to help Chen Lian up, he anxiously questioned, "Who injured him like this? Was it you?! Why did you hurt him like this!"

He Mu leaned down, placed his hand on Wen Rensheng's shoulder, and asked with a smile:

"So do you think he did it?"

The cultivator's gaze then fell upon the innocent-looking child.

"Are you kidding me? This kid—"

The cultivator stopped abruptly halfway through his sentence and re-examined Wen Rensheng's voice.

Wait a minute, upon closer inspection, why does this child's expression look so fierce? Could it be that he was jealous of Senior Brother Chen Lian's rapid progress in cultivation, so he mistakenly entered the evil path of cultivation and suffered a qi deviation, causing his body to regress into the form of a child, but his nature remains as vicious as a snake, waiting for an opportunity to take revenge on his junior brother?!

The cultivator instantly realized Wen Rensheng's identity, and his expression changed drastically.

"You, you, you, you..." He pointed at Wenren's nose, his voice trembling, "You wicked person! How could you be so vicious!"

Hearing a soft snort, he coldly said, "I'm not stupid, I'm smart."

The cultivator was startled by his answer and quickly stepped back to protect Chen Lian's head, his gaze darting back and forth between He Mu and Wen Rensheng in panic.

"Master...Master!"

Finally, the cultivator held Chen Lian's head and shouted towards the direction of the dojo.

"Someone has broken in! Junior Brother is in grave danger!"

What's not working?

Wasn't he just alive?

Hearing the voice, he looked puzzled and was about to go up to check Chen Lian's aura when he was pulled back by a force.

“It’s dirty, don’t touch it,” He Mu frowned, shielding Wen Rensheng behind him. “Stay behind me.”

Hearing the voice, he nodded slowly and grasped one of Mu's fingers.

The Sword Sect members arrived quickly. They glanced around after hearing the voices. The leader was a middle-aged man dressed in the same Daoist robes as cultivators. He had thick, raised eyebrows and took exaggerated steps, like an angry rooster.

When the rooster saw Chen Lian's injuries, its eyes widened in disbelief as it looked at Wen Rensheng and then at He Mu.

Who are you people?!

The cultivator just called him master, could he be the "Invincible Elder"?

He doesn't look that invincible, and he's nowhere near as handsome as the Mountain God.

Hearing someone's voice, he gave a soft hum and proudly straightened his posture.

He Mu was not angered by their rude questioning, nor did he show much respect. He leaned against the door frame as usual, his gaze casually falling on Wu Di.

"You are his master, Wu Di?"

Wu Di glared and rebuked, "You brat, we have no grudge against each other, why did you hurt my disciple?"

He Mu didn't comment on the "young upstart" comment. He shifted his leg and continued, "Your apprentice injured my man first. How do you plan to settle this score?"

Upon hearing this, Wu Di quickly glanced at Wen Rensheng, a hint of guilt flashing in his eyes.

He Mu immediately caught his gaze and bluntly pointed out, "Why are you looking at him? I said it was him who was injured."

Wu Di's eyes widened even more, and he angrily said, "If it's not him, then why did you bring him here?"

"I...I...I'm telling you, stop spreading rumors! The Sword Sect is not a place for rogue cultivators!"

The monks nearby chimed in, "That's right, take your son and get out of here!"

He Mu wanted to refute the term "rogue cultivator," but then he thought that he was indeed without a sect or faction, so it wasn't a problem to be called a "rogue cultivator."

So he put his arm around Wen Rensheng's shoulder and calmly explained, "He's not my son, we're comrades."

Hearing a voice, he raised his chin and repeated, "Comrade!"

Upon hearing this, the cultivators exchanged bewildered glances.

"..."

"...Who asked?"

"Whether he's your son or not, nobody cultivators aren't welcome here. Get out!"

The cultivators immediately started arguing again, and more and more people gathered at the mountain gate, almost filling half of the dojo.

A group of people spontaneously united in their hatred of the enemy, their voices buzzing around Wen Rensheng's ears like wasps.

After hearing a few voices, I felt dizzy and weak.

Oh no!

Hearing voices, he knew something was wrong.

I'm about to faint from hunger!

His stomach kept rumbling, making it difficult for him to concentrate.

He rubbed his stomach, wondering where to get some food later, when his nose caught a whiff of meaty aroma, seemingly coming from the temple.

He followed the scent and saw a very old dog not far away, with a small plate next to it containing several hot steamed buns.

Hearing voices, he couldn't help but swallow hard.

Since they're talking anyway, it wouldn't hurt to sneak a bite, right?

If you want to become a great hero and learn powerful magic, how can you do it without filling your stomach?

He slowly released his grip on He Mu's hand and silently crossed the threshold of the Sword Sect.

*

As soon as the warmth on his fingers disappeared, He Mu noticed the sound of someone's voice.

He glanced at Wen Rensheng out of the corner of his eye. The child was staring at the steamed buns not far away with shining eyes, looking like he was about to drool.

...and still a greedy little wolf demon.

He Mu sighed silently.

However, this also saves a lot of trouble.

He didn't say anything to stop it, just glanced at it casually, and then drew the sleight of hand from his waist.

Upon seeing his actions, the cultivators immediately started making a ruckus again.

"Ooh ooh ooh!"

"He's got a sword!"

"Quickly, prepare to cover your junior brother and senior brother—"

Pfft!

Before the group of cultivators could react, a sword rang out, and Se Sha pierced Wu Di's left shoulder in the blink of an eye.

!!

Wu Di's meridians were instantly paralyzed. He opened his eyes wide in anger and coughed up a mouthful of blood.

"Cough cough!"

He craned his neck and stared at He Mu in disbelief.

"you……!"

This sword strike, in terms of both power and speed, clearly demonstrated the superiority of the opponent; no one could react in time.

This "rogue cultivator's" cultivation level is definitely not limited to the Nascent Soul stage.

For a moment, everyone held their breath, and the temple was completely silent.

"I told you, I don't have that much time to waste with you guys."

He Mu remained calm as he slowly drew his sword and swung it around.

"I've come here to ask you only one thing."

He Mu turned his head and glanced at the voice again. The child carefully moved to the vicinity of the plate of buns.

Its movements were cautious and subtle, like a clumsy little dog doing something naughty.

He Mu withdrew his gaze and looked at Wu Di and the group of cultivators, the base color of his pupils slowly turning crimson gold.

“That child’s spiritual root is incomplete. I checked his pulse and found that half of it had been removed.”

He spoke calmly, but a sinister killing intent, like a serpent, slowly rose from his body, coiling itself around the necks of the group.

"Who did this?"
