Chapter Seventy-Eight: Eating the Crabapple

As soon as Ning Huan reached the door, she heard her second grandfather wailing, "My grandson! Tusheng, how could you abandon your grandfather and leave!"

After she hurriedly entered the house, everyone immediately looked at her.

When her second grandfather saw her, he was like a lifeline: "Jing'an's wife, come and see my Tusheng."

Although Tu Sheng was lying on the bed with his eyes open, it was obvious that he was in very bad condition. His eyes were glazed over, as if he was lying on the bed but his soul was gone.

His face was slightly bluish-purple, and his body was ice-cold.

Ning Huan stepped forward and called softly, "Tu Sheng? Can you hear your aunt?"

Tusheng's eyes flickered slightly, but he didn't open his mouth to speak.

Seeing this, Ning Huan asked anxiously, "Second Grandfather, where did you all go this afternoon? How did Tusheng become like this?!"

Grandpa's voice trembled with anxiety:

“I saw that Tusheng woke up this afternoon. You originally said you would get him herbs and prescriptions, but someone said that we should take Tusheng to town to see a doctor while he is still awake.

“I was worried about Tusheng, so I thought it would be safer to go to town. But I didn’t expect that Tusheng would become strange when we got there. When I took him to the clinic, all the doctors said he wouldn’t live much longer…”

As he spoke, the second grandfather looked at Ning Huan with red eyes: "Girl, it's all my fault for not listening to you during the day. Could you please take another look at Tusheng and save him?"

As he was about to kneel down before Ning Huan, Ning Huan quickly helped her up: "Second Grandfather, don't rush, let me take a look at Tu Sheng."

Ning Huan stepped forward to take Tu Sheng's pulse and found that his pulse was quite unusual.

It seemed as if two forces were fighting each other within Tu Sheng's body, one of which was the fungal purple poison that Ning Huan had treated Tu Sheng during the day.

Ning Huan didn't know what the other one was. She frowned and asked her second grandfather, "Since Tusheng left home at noon, has he come into contact with anything? Touched anything, or eaten or drunk anything?"

Second Grandfather shook his head: "No, this afternoon when we took Tusheng to town, those doctors didn't even prescribe any medicine for Tusheng."

Just then, the boy next to him suddenly spoke up: "Yes! Second Grandfather, you don't know, Tusheng said he wasn't feeling well, so Uncle Shengzhi gave him something to eat."

"What is that?"

At this moment, Katsushi stepped out from the crowd, muttering curses as he spoke:

"You little beast, what nonsense are you spouting? Would I feed Tusheng anything that would harm him? He says he's not feeling well, but isn't that just because he's carsick and has a bad constitution?"

"What's wrong with me giving him something to eat to calm him down?"

Ning Huan narrowed her eyes and looked over. This Shengzhi was the man she had been fighting against all day.

Before she could speak, her second grandfather asked casually, "Shengzhi, what did you feed Tusheng?"

Shengzhi still said confidently, "Second Grandfather, don't listen to that brat. Would I give Tusheng bad food? Would I harm him...?"

He kept rambling on about how it was all for the good of the local people, while others nearby tried to persuade his second grandfather.

But the second grandfather asked sternly, "I'm asking you what exactly you fed Tusheng!"

In an instant, everyone was so frightened that they dared not utter a sound.

Second Grandfather looked at Shengzhi and said, "My son Tusheng calls you 'uncle' at least. You took him up the mountain and caused him to get purpura, but I didn't blame you. Jing'an's wife came to see Tusheng during the day, and you kept stopping me, but I didn't say anything."

"Later, it was you who insisted that I take Tusheng to town to find a doctor, Shengzhi. Did I, the old man, do something to wrong you? Why did you treat my Tusheng like this!"

Speechless at his second grandfather's words, Shengzhi stammered:

"Second Grandpa, I really didn't mean it. This afternoon, Tusheng said he wasn't feeling well, and I thought he might be carsick due to his weak constitution. So I fed him some food to fill his stomach..."

Ning Huan quickly asked, "What did you feed him?"

Shengzhi initially looked at Ning Huan with dissatisfaction, even a hint of disgust. But seeing his second grandfather glaring at him, he had no choice but to reply, "I gave him some crabapple."

Ning Huan frowned: "How could you give him crabapple? When that fruit comes into contact with the purplish fungus, it will produce another kind of poison in a person's body!"

She then looked at Tu Sheng, and saw that the words "Crabapple" were also prominently displayed above his head.

Furthermore, it is written next to the crabapple that when it comes into contact with the purpuric acid poisoning agent, it will produce a toxin that is entangled with the purpuric acid poisoning agent and will fight to the death.

Upon hearing Ning Huan's words, Shengzhi was even more ashamed to lift his head: "I don't know either. I was just thinking that Tusheng wasn't feeling well. I gave him some fruit to help him recover... I never imagined it would turn out like this..."

This is really a tricky situation. The detoxification pills that Ning Huan gave Tu Sheng at noon can no longer be taken, but the toxins in his body must be expelled.

She thought for a moment, then gritted her teeth and said, "Second Grandfather, there's only one way now. I'll use silver needles to force the toxins out of Tusheng's body. Whether Tusheng's body can withstand it afterward depends on him."

Hearing this, the second grandfather seemed to see a glimmer of hope, since the doctors at the clinic had all said they couldn't cure him.

"Good...good! Huan'er, you're really capable. As long as you can save our Tusheng, I'll do anything you say!"

Although Ning Huan was going to receive acupuncture, she was worried that Tu Sheng's body couldn't handle it, so she took a few herbs from the medicine basket and handed them to her second grandfather:

"Second Grandfather, these herbs can help Tusheng recover some of his strength. Find two reliable people to brew the medicine. Tusheng may need to drink it after the acupuncture treatment."

Speaking of reliable people, Ning Huan even glanced in Sheng Zhi's direction. Her second grandfather didn't say he understood perfectly, but he knew what was going on.

Shengzhi originally wanted to be more attentive to make up for what he had done before. But his second grandfather didn't give him the chance at all: "Shengzhi, if there's nothing else, you should go home first. I don't need you here."

As he spoke, the second grandfather handed the herbs to the boy beside him, and the clever boy took the herbs and went to the kitchen.

Shengzhi said, on the verge of tears, "Second Grandfather, please believe me, I really didn't mean it. I've watched Tusheng grow up since he was a child, how could I harm him..."

Ning Huan didn't have time to deal with these things. Ning Liang handed her silver needles, and then Ning Huan began to administer the acupuncture.

Ning Liang watched Ning Huan's focused expression and felt a surge of pride: the woman in front of him was his sister.

As the silver needles were pierced into Tusheng's body one by one, a lot of black blood flowed from Tusheng's mouth.

But this poisonous blood alone wasn't enough. Ning Huan frowned and then pulled out a small knife. She was going to bleed him out!
