Seeing that more and more people were gathering outside the door, Ning Huan quickly led Zhou Jing'an back inside.
At the Pang family's house, Ning Huan didn't have to do anything. Even if she wanted to help the Pang family brew wine, she was stopped by Kang Shi and Ning Xu before she could even ask.
"Sister, you should go back to your room and rest. We'll take care of things here. You've come all this way, so don't bother helping out."
Zhou Jing'an had just finished teaching the four little ones to read when he looked up and saw Ning Huan walking back and forth in the courtyard, occasionally glancing up to see if Pang Shi and the others had noticed.
Then, when no one was looking, I quietly turned the shepherd's purse over and found that some of the dried vegetables had already been dried, so I put them in the basket.
Seeing this, Zhou Jing'an found Ning Huan inexplicably amusing.
That evening, Ning Huan took out all the things she had brought and gave them to Madam Pang: "Mother, I brought you some cured meat that you can make for the New Year, as well as a lot of fruits and vegetables, and the fabrics were all bought from town."
Looking at the things Ning Huan had given her, Pang quickly said, "When your brother came back last time, he brought so many of these things from you. Why did you bring so many again this time?"
"Mother, no need. You can take them all back. Keep them for the four little ones."
Ning Huan shook her head. She had given these to Madam Pang on purpose, so how could she possibly take them back?
"Mom, there are four little dumplings. I've already set aside some for them at home. These are specially for you."
Then she leaned close to Madam Pang and whispered, "Mother, please accept it. There's plenty more at home, so don't worry. It's the New Year, of course we have to eat something good."
Pang's eyes reddened. She was deeply moved. Her daughter, Huanhuan, had truly become successful and was now able to take care of her.
"Okay, okay, then Mother will accept it. Mother will definitely eat all the meat and vegetables you gave me during the New Year."
That night, the four little ones didn't sleep with Ning Huan anymore; the four little treasures were taken away by Kang Shi to sleep together.
Da Bao and Xiao Er Bao were going to sleep with their father and uncle, while Xiao San Bao was originally going to sleep with his mother. However, Ning Xingde heard that Ning Huan told him bedtime stories every night before going to sleep.
He was not willing to give up, so he insisted that he could tell the stories too. Then he started to think about those stories and would tell them to his little one every night.
Unlike the bedtime stories Ning Huan told, Ning Xingde told stories of spirits and monsters that he had heard from elders when he was young, which Xiao Sanbao listened to with great interest.
Seeing that the four little ones wouldn't sleep with Ning Huan anymore, Madam Pang came over and lay down next to Ning Huan herself, saying, "Tonight, Mother will stay with you."
Ning Huan lay in bed, telling Pang about what had happened to her these past few days. She also told her mother-in-law that Yao had been divorced and sent home by her father-in-law, Zhou Dashan.
Hearing this, Madam Pang was very surprised: "How could Yao, that shrewd woman, be willing to let her in-laws divorce her?"
Ning Huan said helplessly, "My father-in-law gave her a chance, but she was too proud to say anything nice to him, so she was divorced afterward."
“However, the concubine that my father-in-law brought back must be involved in this matter. She must have been involved in the whole thing. Otherwise, my mother-in-law did much worse things before, and my father-in-law never said he wanted to divorce her.”
Pang snorted coldly and said, "Serves her right. Who told her to do nothing but torment people all day long?"
"Besides, if this man doesn't usually have anyone competing with you for him, that's fine. He'll do whatever you want. But once he has someone to compare with, someone new and attractive, then shouldn't you restrain yourself a bit and give him a chance?"
"The Yao family was shrewd for most of their lives, but in the end they were divorced because of this kind of thing. They deserved it!"
Besides mentioning Yao Shi, Ning Huan also talked about her aunts and sisters-in-law in the village who had recently become close to her: "Many people in the village are treating me very well now, so you can rest assured, Mother."
Madam Pang nodded: "As long as you are doing well, I am at ease."
The next morning, Ning Huan got up and helped the four little ones wash up. Then she told them to pack their luggage, as Uncle Zhu Dali would be coming to pick them up soon.
The four little ones asked reluctantly, "Mommy, are we going back today?"
"Mommy, I want to hear Grandpa tell me a story too."
“My aunt is so good to me, I want to play with her a little longer.”
"My uncle said he's going to take me to a fun place outside the village today."
Looking at them, Ning Huan asked, "Do you really want to stay for another two days?"
The four little ones nodded first, then shook their heads and said, "Wherever Mother goes, we will go. If Mother says she wants to leave, we will leave."
Ning Huan was amused by what the four little ones said, wondering where they had learned it from.
"Okay, after you've washed up, go back and change your clothes and pack your luggage. We're going home today."
It wasn't that Ning Huan didn't want to bring them to stay; it was just that she had arranged with Zhu Dali for today.
It's not easy for them to come all this way. If they don't leave today, Zhu Dali will have made a wasted trip, and the villagers will be late getting to town.
No matter how I look at it, I have to go back with Zhu Dali today.
Thinking that the four little ones enjoyed playing at the Ning family's house so much, Ning Huan thought that she could get a horse-drawn carriage in the future. It would be faster than an oxcart, and more importantly, it would be their own, so they could go wherever they wanted.
Although Ning Huan had told Pang Shi last night that she was leaving, everyone was still a little reluctant to see her go when she told them before breakfast.
Ning Xingde looked at the three little ones and asked with some disappointment, "Leaving today? So soon?"
Madam Kang patted the little four children's heads tenderly, saying, "Your aunt will visit you in the future."
Pang was the most reluctant to part with Ning Huan. She saw that Ning Huan's eyes were red, but she also knew that her daughter and son-in-law really had to leave today.
I can't always live with them; there are definitely things to do at home.
After breakfast, the four little ones had almost finished packing their luggage. Pang Shi took four red envelopes and gave one to each of the little ones.
The four little ones touched the red envelopes and figured that their grandma must have given them a generous amount; there must be at least two taels of silver in each one.
The sensible ones wanted to return the red envelope to Grandma Pang: "Grandma, we don't want the red envelope. We'll come again next time."
Seeing that the four little ones wouldn't accept it, Pang forced it into their hands: "Be good, you all take it. This is money from your grandma to ward off evil spirits during the New Year. You must keep it."
The four little ones turned to look at Ning Huan, and seeing their mother nod, they smiled and thanked Madam Pang before accepting the red envelopes.
