Chapter 42 Even a donkey wouldn't eat it

Ning Huan encountered a young man in red on the street who helped him out of a predicament and identified the ginseng as fake.

Meanwhile, the younger brother of the red-clad young master, the white-clad young master, happened to have opened a clinic and was searching for rare medicinal herbs.

She thought to herself, "What a coincidence!" She was just thinking about where to find a clinic to sell the medicinal herbs she had brought.

As the young man in white was eloquently describing how serious his patient's condition was and how arduous his treatment had been, Ning Huan secretly raised her hand and said:

"I have some top-quality, century-old ginseng here. If you'd like some..."

Before she could finish speaking, the young man in white was stunned: "What?"

“I told him I have a century-old ginseng.”

"Fat lady, are you serious?"

Ning Huan rolled her eyes and then said, "Don't call me Fatty anymore, my name is Ning Huan."

The two brothers, the one in white and the one in red, exchanged a glance and then said, "Miss Huan, my name is Si Yan, and this is my elder brother, Si Mo."

Ning Huan nodded slightly and explained, "I came to town today to sell the medicinal herbs I had to the clinic, but I didn't expect to run into this."

As he spoke, he took out the ginseng from his body and handed it to Si Yan.

Upon seeing this, Si Yan was overjoyed and exclaimed repeatedly, "It really is a hundred-year-old ginseng! Judging from its quality, it must be a hundred years old!"

"Although it is a hundred-year-old ginseng, its quality is rarely seen even among thousand-year-old ginseng!"

He held the century-old ginseng in his hand, admiring it and praising it repeatedly: "If we had this ginseng, the lady of the Wan family would be saved."

Thinking of this, he looked at Ning Huan: "Fat... Ning Huan, how much do you want to sell this century-old ginseng for? Name your price."

Ning Huan replied, "Although I want to sell these herbs for some money, I won't take advantage of the situation. Besides, we should just buy and sell at the normal market price."

These words made Si Yan look at the plump woman in front of him with new respect. He thanked her respectfully, saying, "Thank you, Madam Ning Huan."

According to normal prices, this century-old ginseng would cost about one hundred taels, but Si Yan knew that ginseng of this quality would definitely cost more than one hundred taels.

"My lady, I have three hundred taels of silver notes. Would you be willing to sell me this ginseng?"

Ning Huan hadn't expected it to sell for three hundred taels. She did the math carefully and realized that Si Yan must have inflated the price for her.

However, she originally intended to sell herbs to earn money, so if Si Yan could afford the price, she wouldn't refuse.

And so, Ning Huan sold the ginseng she had.

Si Yan looked at the small basket on Ning Huan's body and asked curiously, "Are there any other herbs in this basket?"

Ning Huan replied, "Yes, and there are some other herbs as well."

Si Yan was delighted: "Then why don't you just sell them all to me, Madam Ning Huan? I see that the ginseng in your possession is of such good quality, so I'm sure the other medicinal herbs must also be of good quality."

"Don't worry about the price, Renjitang will definitely not shortchange Ning Huan's wife."

To everyone's surprise, Ning Huan shook her head and said, "I know Manager Si Yan is generous, but I'd like to take the rest of these herbs to another clinic."

"Just as Manager Ye needs this century-old ginseng to treat his patients, other clinics may also need herbal medicine to treat and relieve illnesses in emergencies."

"That's a good point," Si Yan nodded in agreement. "What Madam Ning Huan said is correct. If you have any left over after selling the herbs today, Renjitang will accept them all."

After leaving, Ning Huan continued her search for a suitable medical clinic.

On the way, she heard that Zuiyanlou was a restaurant. She had previously thought that Zuiyanlou was a brothel, and that's why the tavern had such a name.

Ning Huan smiled, thinking of the red-clad young master Si Mo, dressed in crimson robes, standing in the Drunken Smoke Pavilion watching the customers come and go. He looked more like a madam than a woman!

After walking for a while, Ning Huan saw a medical clinic called Miaoshoutang.

Upon seeing Ning Huan, the young apprentice in the clinic quickly grabbed a broom and began sweeping, shooing her away as he did so: "Go away! Where did this stinky old woman come from? Don't loiter around our clinic!"

Ning Huan frowned, but thinking that her current appearance was indeed unpleasant, she held back.

She said kindly, "Young man, I'm here to sell some medicinal herbs. I don't know if the clinic accepts them."

The young apprentice looked Ning Huan up and down and said, "We do accept medicines, but what good herbs could an ugly woman like you possibly have? Our Miaoshou Hall is a large medical institution; we don't accept ordinary herbs."

Ning Huan said, "What I sell are naturally rare medicinal herbs. Besides, what does selling herbs have to do with my appearance?"

As she spoke, she walked in despite the young apprentice's attempts to stop her.

"What happened?"

A shrewd-looking middle-aged man came out and asked.

Seeing this, the young apprentice quickly said, "Shopkeeper, this ugly woman claims to have rare medicinal herbs to sell, but look at her figure, appearance, and clothes, what good stuff could she possibly have!"

Hearing the young apprentice address the man as "shopkeeper," Ning Huan stepped forward, bowed, and said:

"Shopkeeper, although I am not good-looking, who says that people with unattractive appearances cannot have rare medicinal herbs? The sale of medicinal herbs is based on their quality, not on the appearance of the seller."

Manager Yu nodded: "What you say is right, madam. In that case, may I see what kind of medicinal herbs you have?"

Because Ning Huan had some medicinal herbs in her own consciousness space, as well as some common medicinal herbs she had picked on the mountain. Since she was going to sell them anyway, she could just take them out little by little.

So as soon as she took out the common medicinal herbs from the mountain, the young apprentice beside her scoffed disdainfully:

"I thought you were talking so big because you had some amazing stuff. But it's just some ordinary medicinal herbs. Even the donkeys at Miaoshoutang wouldn't eat these!"

Ning Huan was displeased; this young medicine apprentice had never shown her any respect. But she forced herself to explain, "These medicinal herbs may be ordinary, but they are all of superior quality."

Manager Yu shook his head and said, "Madam, we at Miaoshoutang really don't need the medicinal herbs you have. You don't need to bring out any new ones."

He then gave the young medicine boy a wink: "Please leave."

Ning Huan said coldly, "No need to invite me, I can leave by myself!"

The shopkeeper may seem kind, but it's all an act.

No wonder, this young apprentice is his assistant; like master, like servant.

Just as Ning Huan turned to leave, a lazy voice came from the doorway: "Oh, this is a distinguished guest. If your Miaoshoutang doesn't want him, then he can belong to our Renjitang?"
