Chapter 170 Taking Mao's Pulse

Mao's reaction surprised Ning Huan. She raised an eyebrow and looked at Fan Juan standing to the side.

She thought Mao was going to trip her up, but Fan Juan smiled gently, mouthed a reassuring sound, and then turned and went to the kitchen to prepare water for her and Yao Xiaocui.

But the next second, Ning Huan understood what Fan Juan meant by "don't worry".

Mao greeted her with a smile and tried to hug Ning Huan, but Ning Huan reacted quickly and dodged.

Although Mao was extremely embarrassed, she suppressed her anger and grabbed Ning Huan's hand again. She looked at her with a smile and said:

"Jing'an's wife, I've heard from the villagers that your medical skills are amazing, but I've never seen them in person. Now that I've seen them with my own eyes, you truly are a miracle doctor!"

As soon as Mao finished speaking, Ning Huan understood what the old woman meant. She simply smiled faintly and said, "Aunt Mao, I'm not as powerful as you say."

Then, he politely added, "I explained it when I saved Fan Juan that day. She hadn't died yet, and besides my medical skills, it was also entirely due to her own good fortune that I was able to save her."

Mao took it as Ning Huan being polite; how could someone who was practically hanging from the rafters possibly rely on their own fate? She welcomed Ning into the house, adopting the demeanor of a gentle elder:

“Jing’an’s wife, no matter what, your medical skills have become well-known in our village. It’s rare for you to come to my house today, why don’t you stay and let me take a look at you?”

Mao originally disliked Ning Huan very much. If it were any other time, she would at least make sarcastic remarks when she saw her. Now, she was being very polite to her, not for any other reason than this.

She was just impressed by Ning Huan's amazing medical skills, which allowed her to even bring the dead back to life. She thought that if she said a few nice words to Ning Huan and made her feel better, and then had her examined, her old bones might be able to live to be a hundred years old!

Because Ning Huan needed to present the prescription she was going to give to Fan Juan for Mao Shi's cooperation later, she didn't refuse in order to appease Mao Shi.

So he smiled and nodded, replying, "Then I'll take Aunt Mao's pulse and check your health."

Mao was quite surprised that Ning Huan agreed so easily. She had prepared herself to use her seniority to her advantage after being rejected, and she didn't believe Ning Huan would refuse.

But she agreed to take her pulse without saying a word, which made Mao feel much better. She felt that Ning Huan was a sensible woman.

After Mao sat down, she stretched out her hand for Ning Huan to take her pulse.

Ning Huan noticed that the Mao family's conditions were average, but Mao Shi was radiant and her figure was even better than that of her original self.

She thought for a moment and then withdrew her hand. Mao hurriedly asked, "Jing'an's wife, is there something wrong with my health?"

Ning Huan looked at Mao Shi and then said with great difficulty, "Auntie, have you been feeling weak lately, and often find it difficult to breathe after walking just a few steps?"

Mao stared wide-eyed at Ning Huan in surprise: "Jing An's wife, how did you know all this? Lately, I've been feeling incredibly tired and weak even before I've done anything."

Ning Huan said to Mao Shi with a somewhat serious expression, "Auntie, you must eat less oily food and more bland vegetables. It would be best if you could skip a meal and drink more cold water."

Mao hurriedly asked anxiously, "Jing'an's wife, tell me clearly, what exactly happened? Is there something wrong with my health?"

It wasn't really a big problem; Mao was just too obese, which weakened her immune system. But thinking about how Mao always tormented Fan Juan, Ning Huan wanted to stand up for Fan Juan.

"Auntie, your health is pretty good, but you have some minor ailments. I'll write you a prescription in a bit. Just get the medicine according to the prescription, drink it, and you'll be fine."

Ning Huan continued, "Remember what I just told my aunt, and it would be best if you could do more work every day."

Mao was taken aback for a moment, then stared at Ning Huan suspiciously and asked, "Jing'an's wife, I don't quite understand what you just told me, and why should I have to do chores every day?"

She has Fan Juan as her daughter-in-law, and at the very least, she has her two maids who are of working age. By all accounts, it shouldn't be her turn to do chores. Could it be that Ning Huan is deliberately teasing her?

To everyone's surprise, Ning Huan remained calm and said unhurriedly, "Aunt Mao, I was just taking your pulse and observing your appearance. I know you have some minor health issues, so I gave you a suggestion. If you don't think it's appropriate, you don't have to listen to it."

"It's just that some of the medicine I prescribed for you requires you to do some physical activity so that your body can fully absorb it; otherwise, the medicine's effectiveness would be reduced by half."

Upon hearing this, Madam Mao no longer doubted her and quickly grabbed Ning Huan's hand, saying, "Oh, Jing'an's wife, I didn't disbelieve you. I was just curious. You suddenly said you wanted to prescribe medicine for me, and I was worried that something might have happened to me."

Ning Huan wasn't angry. She just nodded and said, "Auntie can think about it herself. Have you been feeling those symptoms that I just mentioned recently?"

After thinking about it carefully, Mao realized that what Ning Huan said was indeed true. Worried that her earlier doubts about Ning Huan might have upset her, she quickly praised her with a smile, "Yes, yes, yes, Jing'an's wife, your medical skills are truly amazing."

She was terrified of offending Ning Huan. What if she didn't give her the prescription she had just promised? What if she never treated her again?

Yao Xiaocui witnessed Mao's true colors all along. Not to mention Ning Huan, even she could see that this old woman was only so respectful to her because of Ning Huan's medical skills.

At this moment, Fan Juan came in with water, served it to Ning Huan and Mao Shi, and then gave Yao Xiaocui a cup as well.

Seeing Fan Juan enter, Madam Mao seemed to suddenly remember something and gently leaned close to Ning Huan, whispering, "Jing An's wife, since your medical skills are so amazing, could you take a look at my daughter-in-law and tell me how to help her give me a big, healthy grandson?"

Actually, Mao didn't take it seriously. She had seen countless doctors who claimed they could give birth to sons, and she had believed in countless folk remedies, but none of them worked.

Seeing Ning Huan nod, Madam Mao asked in surprise, "Really? Are you telling the truth?"

"Jing'an's wife, can you really cure my daughter-in-law's illness and help her give me a big, healthy grandson?"
