Chapter Ninety-Five: How could you be so confused?

Walking inside, Ning Huan placed the water on the table, then took a glass for herself and gave it to Zhou Jing'an.

"We don't have any tea at home, please don't take offense, Young Master Yu and Manager Si."

Yu Chengren looked down at the cups Ning Huan had placed on the table. Although they were just two simple cups, they were very clean, crystal clear and without a trace of impurity.

He took a sip and found the water to be unusually sweet. After drinking it, he felt refreshed.

Si Yan also felt that after drinking the water, a warm and powerful force seemed to be flowing through his body.

Before he could even ask, Yu Chengren chimed in, "Ning Niangzi, your water is so sweet! And I feel like I have more energy after drinking it?"

Ning Huan smiled and said, "Perhaps it's because Young Master Yu is thirsty. This water is just well water that I fetched from the village, nothing special."

"If there's anything different about this, it's probably that I boiled the water and let it cool before serving it to everyone."

This is nothing special. Yu Chengren also felt that he might really be like Ning Huan said, just drinking a glass of water when he was thirsty.

He finds food delicious when he's hungry, but he has more energy when he's full than when he's hungry!

Si Yan felt something was amiss, but didn't dwell on it. While Ning Huan was indeed capable and powerful, it was unlikely she possessed any magical abilities, even in water.

After drinking the water, Yu Chengren realized that he and Zhou Jing'an couldn't continue their conversation, so he thanked Ning Huan several times and prepared to leave.

Si Yan said he needed to check Zhou Jing'an's health again, so Yu Chengren went back to the carriage to wait.

Zhou Jing'an thanked Si Yan warmly, and Si Yan said, "Mr. Zhou, you are too kind. Since you are a patient of my Renjitang, I will definitely do my best to help you."

After examining the pulse, Si Yan then looked at Zhou Jing'an's legs.

Si Yan: "Mr. Zhou is recovering very well, and it won't be long before he's fully recovered. However, Mr. Zhou's leg..."

Zhou Jing'an frowned slightly: "Please speak frankly, Manager Si. I can handle this."

Si Yan explained, "Mr. Zhou, you misunderstand. Although your leg injury is very serious and cannot be fully recovered with ordinary treatment and recuperation, Renjitang has a special treatment method."

"What?"

"That is surgery to reconnect your broken bones, sir. Only in this way can your leg be completely healed."

Si Yan repeated to Zhou Jing'an the words Ning Huan had taught him, one by one.

He had assumed that the frail scholar would be so frightened by the terrifying treatment that he would refuse it repeatedly.

Unexpectedly, Zhou Jing'an remained silent for a while, then asked Si Yan, "Manager Si, are you confident?"

This time it was Si Yan's turn to ask, "What?"

Zhou Jing'an's eyes were full of determination: "I'll do it."

Upon hearing this, Si Yan looked at Zhou Jing'an in disbelief, but said nothing more, and nodded, saying, "Alright, after a while, when your health has recovered a bit more, you can go to town to have surgery with me."

Ning Huan, standing to the side, said excitedly and happily, "Manager Si, thank you so much. You are truly a great benefactor to our family."

Seeing Ning Huan's exaggerated expression, Si Yan smiled awkwardly: "Madam Ning, you don't need to be so polite."

After finishing his conversation with Zhou Jing'an, Si Yan was about to leave. As he was leaving, he seemed to remember something and said to Ning Huan, "Madam Ning, I have something to tell you. Please come out for a moment."

Ning Huan glanced at Zhou Jing'an and said, "Then I'll go out for a bit."

Zhou Jing'an nodded in agreement, "It's only right that we see Manager Si off."

That's what he said, but seeing Ning Huan and Si Yan walking away together, he felt inexplicably displeased.

These two seemed to be getting a little too close, and even though Manager Si was the doctor who treated him, Zhou Jing'an felt very uncomfortable.

Ning Huan, who was outside, asked, "Manager Si, is there anything else?"

Si Yan hesitated, looking quite embarrassed: "Madam Ning, could I witness your surgical skills? I've only ever heard of surgery in medical books; I've never actually seen it."

Ning Huan nodded and replied, "Of course there's no problem. I'll have to ask Manager Si to keep it a secret from my husband and the villagers."

As he was leaving, Yu Chengren called out to Ning Huan from inside the carriage, "Madam Ning, all the things in the courtyard are gifts I brought to thank you for saving my wife and child's lives!"

Si Yan's face was as black as could be. He had warned Yu Chengren countless times not to be ostentatious, but Yu Chengren was just too much of a troublemaker.

However, many villagers had also heard the news of the two's arrival. After all, carriages rarely came and went from the village, and each time they came, they were heading to Zhou Jing'an's house, bringing with them many good things.

When Zhou Yan heard Aunt Liu next door say that Zhou Jing'an's family had received another important guest who brought a lot of gifts, she started to feel anxious again.

She hurried back to the house to find Yao, but Yao had been scolded by Zhou Dashan for what happened last time. Although she disliked Ning Huan, she didn't want to cause trouble for her now.

However, Yao was secretly planning how to divorce Ning Huan and then find Zhou Jing'an a more obedient and sensible wife, preferably one who could coax him back into the family.

"Second daughter, it's not that I'm criticizing you, but your father was furious a few days ago because of his trip to your third brother's house. If you cause any more trouble there, see how your father will punish you!"

Madam Yao warned Zhou Yan, but she dismissed it, saying, "Mother, what trouble could I possibly cause at their house? I'm just angry that they're so disrespectful to our parents. That bitch Ning Huan hunted a wild deer and didn't even bring us a single piece of meat."

"And my third brother's classmate sent so many nice things, we could have just taken two boxes. But that bitch wouldn't even let us take a single piece of paper. And my third brother... he didn't say a word in our defense, and let that bitch Ning Huan bully us."

Upon hearing this, Madam Yao raised an eyebrow and said, "What you said is true. Ning Huan is no pushover, but your third brother isn't much better. How can anyone tolerate their wife bullying their parents? That's the greatest act of filial impiety!"

Zhou Yan replied, "Mother, you're absolutely right. Otherwise, let's go to Third Brother's house right now and make a scene, so everyone knows that Third Brother and Ning Huan are ungrateful wretches, and see them ruined!"

Madam Yao poked Zhou Yan's head: "I said, you silly girl, how can you be so confused? Why did you go and bother your third brother? He's almost recovered. If he can pass the imperial examination, our whole family will be able to rise to prominence."
