Chapter Thirty: Liu's Complaint

Listening to the villagers' words, Ke Ruxiu's face turned pale and then red.

Ke Ruxiu, embarrassed and angry, looked at Ning Huan and said, "Stop talking nonsense. I came to visit Brother Jing'an because I cherish the friendship we have from when we grew up together."

Then, pointing at Zhou Jing'an lying in the room, she said, "I don't need to tell you what kind of shrew you are at home all day long. If I hadn't come to see Brother Jing'an, you wouldn't have cared about him at all!"

Ning Huan snorted coldly and said, "How we live is none of your business. Besides, the person lying in the room is my husband. Do you expect me to just leave him suffering?"

Ke Ruxiu glared at Ning Huan through gritted teeth, looking as if she wanted to devour her.

Ning Huan watched as Ke Ruxiu jumped up and down in anger, pointed a wooden stick at the door and said, "The door is over there, don't bother seeing me out."

The four little ones felt a surge of warmth when they saw that Ning Huan hadn't hit them like before, but instead chased away the bad guys who had bullied them.

Ning Huan turned around and saw four little dumplings staring at her expectantly. She pulled the four little dumplings over and looked them over carefully.

“Da Bao is the most seriously injured. I’ll apply medicine to him first. The three of you come with me.”

Little Erbao looked at Ning Huan timidly, hesitant, afraid that the bad woman was going to go back into the house and beat them up.

The two little ones were also a little worried. They looked at each other, and neither of them dared to leave.

Ning Huan turned around and looked at the three little ones who were hesitating in place. She explained with a bit of helplessness, "Da Bao's injury is the most serious, so I'll apply medicine to him first. You guys are injured too, so I'll apply medicine to you as well."

The two little ones exchanged a glance, then nodded in unison and followed Ning Huan into the house.

After the four little ones entered Ning Huan's room, they saw the wicked woman take out a small medicine box and take out some herbs from it.

Ning Huan first took out the herbs she would need from the medicine box, and then took a clean cloth to use as gauze to bandage the wound.

Then she sat down at the table to clean the wounds of Da Bao and Xiao Er Bao. Ning Huan's gentle movements surprised the two little ones.

As she cleaned the little ones' wounds, she asked, "How exactly did you guys start fighting? Tell me."

Da Bao glanced furtively at Ning Huan, then lowered his head again and said:

"My aunt came early this morning with Zhou Xiaofang and that woman. My aunt said she wanted to see my father. Then Zhou Xiaofang stayed with us in the yard..."

After thinking for a moment, Xiao Erbao finally spoke up: "Zhou Xiaofang stole our things and even swore at us. I was so angry that I pushed him, but I didn't really mean to hit him. But then he stood up and hit Xiao Sanbao..."

His voice trailed off, as if afraid the bad woman would hit them.

Xiao Sanbao said aggrievedly, "He snatched things, cursed at people, and even hit them. We were so angry that we hit him."

Xiao Sibao chimed in, "After Auntie came out, she wouldn't listen to our explanations. She even scolded us and tried to hit us, just like Zhou Xiaofang did."

After listening to what the little ones had to say, Ning Huan understood what was going on.

Ke Ruxiu was afraid of herself, so she came up with the excuse of coming with Liu Shi. She originally wanted to see Zhou Jing'an, but she didn't expect Zhou Xiaofang and the four little dumplings to fight together.

She was thinking this when the four little ones thought the bad woman was angry and was going to hit them.

Da Bao said, "Don't hit Xiao Er Bao and the others. If you want to hit someone, hit me instead. I started it."

Little Erbao quickly said, "It's not Dabao's fault. It's my fault, hit me."

The two little ones also said anxiously, "Don't hit big brother and second brother, it's all our fault, hit us instead."

Ning Huan was a little confused, but seeing the four little ones apologizing to each other, she felt a little sad.

They were clearly being bullied, yet they still had to worry that their mothers would beat them.

She raised her hand, and the four little ones thought she was going to hit them, so they all shrank back in fear.

Unexpectedly, the wicked woman gently patted Da Bao's head.

"You lot, if Zhou Xiaofang dares to bully you again, fight back. See what he'll do to you!"

Hearing this, the four little ones were stunned: "Aren't you going to hit us?"

Ning Huan chuckled: "Why would I hit you?"

"Because we caused trouble, and even made you and your aunt argue..."

Ning Huan waved her hand and said, "That's nothing. I argued with her because she bullied you. If she dares to bully you again next time, I won't just argue with her, I'll beat her up too!"

The four little ones stared at the wicked woman with bright eyes, their lips curled up so high they looked like they could hang a carrying pole on their chins.

It turns out that having someone maintain it is such a happy thing.

As soon as Liu, who had brought Zhou Xiaofang home, entered Zhou's parents' room, she sat down on the floor and burst into tears, crying, "Father, Mother! I have no face to see anyone!"

She pinched Zhou Xiaofang hard a few more times, and the child started crying too.

Zhou's mother doted on her eldest grandson the most. Seeing Zhou Xiaofang crying, she rushed over and asked, "My dear grandson, what's wrong?"

Mr. Zhou was also disturbed by Liu's crying and shouting, so he asked, "What exactly happened? Eldest daughter-in-law, please tell me properly."

Liu choked back a few sobs, then said in a choked voice, "Father! Mother! Those little beasts from the third son's family, they bullied my Xiao Fang!"

Upon hearing this, Zhou's father suddenly stood up: "What did you say! What happened?"

Zhou Xiaofang cried and said, "It's all those four little bastards in my third uncle's family! They hit me! I was playing with them today, but they ignored me and even hit me!"

Liu showed Zhou Xiaofang's injuries, which consisted of only a few bruises. Some of the more frighteningly red and swollen areas were actually self-inflicted by Liu on her way back.

Seeing the bruises on Zhou Xiaofang's body, Zhou's mother felt heartbroken and quickly pulled him over, crying, "Oh dear! My precious grandson, how could he have been beaten like this!"

She then glared fiercely at Liu Shi: "Look what you've done to my grandson! Why don't you protect your son a little!"

Liu cried, "I wanted to protect her too, but as soon as the third son's wife came back, she started scolding my mother and me without saying a word. She even said she would get revenge for those little beasts in her family."

Upon hearing this, Zhou's mother immediately retorted angrily, "It's that third son's wife again!"

Liu continued crying, "That's right, the third son's wife also said she definitely won't let this go. What if she tries to hit Xiao Fang again, Mother!"

Zhou's mother sneered, "She wouldn't dare! I'll take you to find her right now and see what she's up to! I'll make those little brats from the Jing'an family apologize to my precious grandson!"

He then led Liu Shi and Zhou Xiaofang outside.
