Chapter 15
"Who insulted you? And what does the insult have to do with your hand hurting?"
Xiao Chuan glanced at the noise not far away and immediately grasped the key point in Mi Yao's words.
“That careless kid cursed at me. He used really bad language, so I raised my hand and hit him. He’s thick-skinned and it hurt my hand.”
Mi Yao made no attempt to conceal her actions; when Xiao Chuan asked, she told him everything truthfully.
Her truth made Xiao Chuan pause in his steps, and his gaze shifted from ahead to her.
He paid no attention to the neighbor's children, but he vaguely remembered that the Ma family's son was younger than Xiao Liang. She had hit the four-year-old boy and then asked him to stand up for her.
For a moment, Xiao Chuan didn't want to move forward; he just wanted to leave this place to avoid being dragged into pointless disputes.
However, it was too late for him to leave now. Seeing that Mi Yao had falsely accused him, Granny Ma anxiously ran forward with her grandson, showing Xiao Chuan the handprint on Ma Hu's face.
“Governor Xiao, look at my grandson. He is so young, yet this wicked woman dared to lay a hand on him.”
“That’s right, Xiao Lang, look at him. How foul his words must have been for me, a delicate young lady, to get so angry that I slapped him so hard.”
"You woman, you're twisting the truth! You hit my grandson, so it's my grandson's fault!"
"It's either his fault or yours. You don't know how to raise children. An old man and a young girl causing trouble at someone else's house. I have never heard of anyone coming to visit and the old man hitting the young master of the house, while the young girl insults the future mistress of the house."
After speaking coldly, Mi Yao turned to Xiao Chuan and became coquettish again, shaking his sleeve once more: "Xiao Lang, what's the difference between them bullying me and bullying you?"
When Xiao Chuan heard Mi Yao say, "The old man hit the young master of the manor," he turned his gaze to Xiao Liang and Xiao Shan.
Seeing Xiao Liang's face covered in tears, he knew that the young master who had been beaten was referring to him.
"What's going on?" Xiao Chuan asked Xiao Liang.
"What else could have happened? My Tiger was just trying to play with him out of kindness, but he didn't appreciate it and instead hit my Tiger, injuring him."
Granny Ma spoke first, and after she finished speaking, Ma Hu nodded and pointed at Xiao Liang: "Second Brother, hit me first."
"Children's quarrels are nothing serious; both of them just need to admit their mistakes."
Madam Pan then spoke up, "Tiger Head, why don't you apologize to Erlang first?"
It was clear that Ma Hu was somewhat afraid of his mother, Madam Pan. So even though Madam Pan had a gentle expression, Ma Hu reluctantly walked towards Xiao Liang, intending to listen to her and apologize.
“If that’s the case, then Xiao Liang should admit his mistake.”
Xiao Chuan coldly looked at Xiao Liang. Mi Yao felt that his gaze was not that of looking at his son, but rather at his enemy.
Mi Yao initially wanted to ignore it, but seeing Xiao Liang clenching his fists and sobbing, she really wanted to apologize to Ma Hu.
Thinking about how skillfully Granny Ma and Ma Hu had sparred, Xiao Liang, who had suffered this kind of grievance countless times, finally opened his mouth: "Second Brother, tell me what exactly happened? I'm not telling anyone else, I'm telling you. Although I didn't slap this ugly boy because of you, it's because you got involved in this matter."
Upon hearing Mi Yao speak, Xiao Chuan glanced at her.
"lady……"
Xiao Liang had just realized that he couldn't call Mi Yao "mother" yet. Mi Yao said she didn't fight the tiger's head for him, but he felt that she did it for him.
Xiao Liang pursed his lips, sobbing and trembling, as he said to Mi Yao, "It was Hu Tou who snatched my things. I didn't want to give them to him, and when Granny Ma saw it, she said I was stingy and told me to give the things to Hu Tou. I refused, so Hu Tou kept crying and making a fuss. Then, when I wasn't paying attention, Granny Ma snatched the things away. After Hu Tou got the snacks and tasted them, he said they were cold and didn't taste good. He said I was a beggar and threw the things on the ground and stomped on them. That's why I pushed him..."
As he spoke, Xiao Liang couldn't stop his tears again. He secretly glanced at Xiao Chuan and saw the coldness on his face, which made him stiffen.
"You're talking nonsense! Who stole your things!"
Grandma Ma was so angry that she wanted to push Xiao Liang when Mi Yao interfered again and made Xiao Liang talk nonsense.
"Go and stop them."
Mi Yao Chao Shi Ya Dao.
“No one took his things. Tiger Head just saw the snacks and wanted to eat them. He ate two bites of Xiao Erlang’s snacks, and Erlang, being stingy, hit my Tiger Head.”
"No, you stole it. Those were snacks that Madam gave to my sister. My sister didn't finish them, so I hid them in my room and ate a little bit when I was hungry. It was Tiger Head who stole them out."
Hearing that the incident was caused by the pastries she had sent, Mi Yao beckoned to Xiao Liang: "Come here. You told the truth. Your father isn't a fool who can't distinguish right from wrong and helps other people's children bully his own. He won't let you suffer in vain."
After Mi Yao finished speaking, she met Xiao Chuan's gaze and smiled sweetly, "Xiao Lang, please stand up for us. Don't forget your own promise to take good care of this fragile flower like me."
Grandma Ma really wanted to scratch Mi Yao's fox-like face to pieces.
How can there be such a shameless woman, acting coquettishly and charmingly in front of men in front of everyone? What's the difference between her and a prostitute in a brothel?
Granny Ma was resentful, while Madam Pan was uneasy. She hadn't paid attention to Mi Yao's appearance when she first arrived at the Xiao family in her previous life, but she remembered that Mi Yao was cold and indifferent to Xiao Chua because she was thinking about her lover whose fate was unknown. In her previous life, she even caused a scene at the wedding by refusing to perform the wedding ceremony.
Now, Mi Yao's eyes were gentle, unlike her cold and indifferent attitude towards Xiao Chuan.
Even a beautiful woman's icy demeanor can make a man give in a little, let alone Mi Yao's charming manner and soft, sweet voice, which is like a hook that makes people's hearts melt.
"Xiao Erlang hit my tiger head, and you hit my tiger head too. If Commander Xiao is going to make a decision, he is doing so for us. You, a woman from Jiangnan, are treacherous and cunning, talking nonsense!"
"Xiao Lang, look at her!"
Mi Yao didn't argue with Granny Ma, she just shook Xiao Chua's clothes.
"It's getting late. If Grandma has nothing else to do, she should take her grandson home."
Xiao Chuan's words clearly sided with Mi Yao, putting Granny Ma at a disadvantage. She was so angry that her nostrils flared up like an old ox: "For the sake of the town magistrate, we'll let Hu Tou's grievances go, but it's unacceptable for Er Lang to lie at such a young age. Town magistrate, you must discipline him properly at home, and don't let others lead him astray!"
After saying that, Granny Ma picked up her grandson and left, leaving Xiao Liang standing there anxiously.
He dared not tell his father that he had not lied, because he knew it would be useless to say so and he could only wait for his father's punishment.
With her opponent gone, Mi Yao felt no joy of victory; instead, she felt annoyed and wanted to kick Xiao Chua.
What's wrong with her treating her own son like an enemy? No wonder the original owner of this body could kill Xiao Liang and the others so easily in the book.
Speaking of which, the original owner's ending was quite unjust. Xiao Chuan, the father, was just like that. He should have been happy that his child died, so why pretend to be in pain and tear the original owner, his benefactor, to pieces?
"Let's go back."
Xiao Chuan did not punish Xiao Liang, but impatiently chased him away.
"You go back too."
Xiao Liang left, and Xiao Chuan met Mi Yao's gaze but didn't seem inclined to say anything more to her.
"I'm still feeling wronged; I'll suffocate in my room."
"You hit someone, what's there to complain about?"
Xiao Chuan frowned, wondering what Mi Yao was up to. His cold demeanor worked on Xiao Liang and the others, but Mi Yao seemed to ignore him, leaving him with no choice but to patiently ask her what she wanted.
“When I hit him, he was physically hurt, and as a four-year-old child, he would forget the pain in a while. But when he cursed at me, he hurt my heart. Between the heart and the body, which hurts more?”
Before answering Mi Yao, Xiao Chuan looked at Madam Pan, who had not left with the Ma family.
"Is there anything else, Madam Ma?"
Seeing Xiao Chuan looking at her, Madam Pan smiled and said, "I haven't seen Ninth Brother for a long time. Nothing important has happened. I just wanted to chat with Ninth Brother about everyday things."
Mi Yao's difference made her feel like she had a fishbone stuck in her throat. Even though she knew the timing wasn't right, she still wanted to step in between the two of them and stop Mi Yao from continuing to act coquettishly in front of Xiao Chuan.
“Madam Ma, Xiao Lang wasn’t really asking if you were alright. He just wanted you to understand that you should leave first if you’re in the way. We’re engaged and have something to say in private. Xiao Lang is shy, and he wouldn’t be able to smooth things over with me if there were other people around.”
Mi Yao disliked the Ma family, so naturally she wouldn't overlook Pan Shi. Moreover, Pan Shi seemed to have forgotten her own son and was insisting on reminiscing with Xiao Chuan, which clearly indicated that she had other intentions.
She paused for a moment, then continued, "Madam Ma, have you forgotten that Ma Hu is your own son? He was slapped for being unruly and was kicked out by the master of the house. Instead of disciplining him, you stayed here and refused to leave. No wonder he turned out the way he did."
Pan's smile froze on her face.
She was Zhao Tianhe's adopted daughter, yet Mi Yao treated her so rudely.
It seemed that apart from Xiao Chuan, who was worth lowering herself for, she didn't care about anyone else.
“There are many things that Madam Yu doesn’t know since she just arrived. I haven’t been having a good time in the Ma family.” As she said the last sentence, Madam Pan looked at Xiao Chuan.
"Why are you looking at Xiao Lang when you're not happy? Is it him who made you unhappy?"
Impatient with Pan's constant pestering, Mi Yao said directly, "If you are interested in Xiao Lang, then wait a while. I have things to do here. Can't you come back at another time tomorrow?"
"We will get married tomorrow."
Xiao Chuan offered a reminder.
As soon as he said it, Xiao Chuan felt he had made trouble for no reason. Sure enough, he heard Mi Yao say, "If a man is sincere, he can still whisper sweet nothings to others the moment before his wedding night. What does it matter if he gets married tomorrow?"
After she finished speaking, she paused, then grabbed his hem: "Does my lord enjoy watching women argue for you or what? I'm in a hurry to complain, so please make room for me to do so."
Xiao Chuan didn't want to listen to Mi Yao's complaints, nor did he want to stay and reminisce with Madam Pan.
If he had to choose one of the two, he said to Madam Pan, "It has been hard on you, Madam Ma, for your trouble in arranging the marriage. However, I'm afraid Yu will not appreciate it. Madam Ma, you should go home first. I will send someone to deliver your reward for your help today."
After Madam Pan left, Xiao Chuan stared coldly at Mi Yao, truly feeling that he had married a troublesome woman.
She was unwilling to arrange household chores, and when someone came to help, she would tell them to leave.
"What do you want? Do you want me to rip out the heart and liver of that Ma family boy to compensate you for the insults you suffered?"
Xiao Chuan's tone was sarcastic, but Mi Yao pretended not to notice: "If Xiao Lang is willing to do this, I will naturally be satisfied."
“Yu Miyao, I hate people who are too troublesome, regardless of whether they are women or beautiful.”
Xiao Chuan's narrow eyes seemed to be covered with a thick layer of ice, cold, hard, and sharp.
He didn't care how Mi Yao made a fuss with others, but she had to resolve the issues herself, instead of bringing them to him and expecting him to act as a judge and decide right and wrong for them.
"Call me Hu Hu."
Faced with Xiao Chuan's warning, Mi Yao smiled brightly and reminded him.
