Chapter 398: He's still in my heart
"The King has arrived!"
Dongru was overjoyed and immediately skipped over to help the guards behind him move the wheelchair in.
Yuan Siyin put down her storybook and sat up straight, her fingertips tightening her collar to keep out the draft. Her voice was slightly soft, "Is court over?"
"Yes, court is over."
Nalan Jue had delicate features and a friendly, approachable smile as he patiently answered the obvious questions.
Dongru could tell at a glance that he was genuinely happy every time he saw the princess, unlike when he was trying to please others.
She stamped her foot, then looked at Yuan Siyin, seemingly somewhat dissatisfied, "Wasn't what I just said funny?"
Yuan Siyin smiled slightly and remained silent.
Nalan Jue waved to the guards behind him, and they retreated to stand guard outside the hall. Dongru, who was also good at reading people, poured tea for the two of them and then followed them down.
"Have you tried on the wedding attire? If you feel anything is not suitable, then have the seamstress..."
"No."
"Not needing it is...?"
Nalan Jue looked directly into her slightly lowered eyes, as if he understood something, and his expression suddenly became much more melancholy. "You still have him in your heart."
"No."
Yuan Siyin looked away. "Thank you for finding me these stories. They're very interesting, and they're all stories I've never read before. They're perfect for passing the time."
Nalan Jue forced a smile, but didn't bring up the topic she was deliberately avoiding. He simply nodded and said, "If you like it, I'll send someone to find it."
Are you going to refuse this too?
Yuan Siyin's lips curled slightly, somewhat helplessly, "You always resort to second best to shut me down at this time."
"That's the only way it can be. Are you angry?"
"No, we are allies, or at best friends. What's there to be angry about?"
The word "friend" stuck in Nalan Jue's throat, causing him to unconsciously clench his fists again and again.
It turns out he was the one who was greedy.
Seeing that he had fallen silent, Yuan Siyin took a sip of tea by herself, but accidentally choked on it. Her slightly pale face immediately flushed red from coughing.
Nalan Jue quickly spun his wheelchair to her side and gently patted her back. "Don't overthink it. Did you take your medicine today?"
"I drank it."
Having finally caught her breath, Yuan Siyin shook her head to indicate that she was alright, then looked at the tightly sealed window frame, "I've been feeling much better these past few days, so I've been thinking about going out for a walk."
“Then I will send more people to serve you, and we also need to assign two doctors.”
"No need, Dongru is enough. Too many people will dampen the fun."
Nalan Jue withdrew his hand, glancing at the flowers and plants on the table out of the corner of his eye: "Alright, I'll do as you wish, but we can't add any more medicine, these orchids are all wilted."
Yuan Siyin closed her eyes in pain and struggled weakly, saying, "I only poured one sip."
"Really?"
"A small half bowl."
Nalan Jue's expression immediately turned serious, like a lecturing old man: "This is life-saving medicine, how can it just collapse like that?"
Yuan Siyin turned her head to the side and covered her ears, selectively deaf.
Nalan Jue is a good person in every way, except for one thing: he's not good at everything.
One second they're gently and considerately trying to get information out of me, the next second their expression changes completely.
While others use disposable contact lenses every year, month, or day, he's practically throwing them away in seconds.
Most importantly, he can retrieve it after throwing it away.
"Take your medicine well these next few days. Once your condition has stabilized a bit, I'll have Dongru take you out for a walk, okay?"
Even if it's too bitter to drink, just consider it as drinking it for someone else." Nalan Jue's expression softened as he advised.
Here it is, we've retrieved it.
