Chapter 387: Hard-hearted

Chapter 387: Hard-hearted

"Go in, His Majesty is waiting for you inside, Consort Wan," the Empress said with an icy expression.

Chu Wan gave her a wary look. "What exactly are you trying to do?"

The Empress did not rush to answer, but calmly walked up to her and took her hand in hers. "As fellow sufferers in the deep palace, we can empathize with each other the most."

These words, spoken out of nowhere, left Chu Wan utterly bewildered, and the Empress secretly exerted all her strength, preventing her from pulling her hand away.

Immediately afterwards, a white porcelain bottle was placed in her hand.

"What?"

Chu Wan instinctively felt that this was no good thing, but as soon as she raised her head, the Empress stepped back, and the sympathy that had been surging in her eyes just moments before vanished instantly.

"Sincerity may not be reciprocated, especially since that person's heart died more than a decade ago."

Chu Wan didn't speak, but gave her a deep look before pushing open the door and entering the bedroom.

The emperor lay on the couch, with layers of curtains hanging down, so numerous and chaotic that it was impossible to tell whether he was awake or resting with his eyes closed.

Chu Wan paused as soon as she entered, first taking off the prison uniform she was wearing over her coat, then tidying her sideburns, and then pouring a cup of tea at the table and pouring all the medicine powder from the porcelain bottle into it.

The powder floated on the water's surface and within moments completely blended with it, leaving no trace of its original state.

Chu Wan forced a pale smile, lifted the bed curtains, and walked straight to the dragon bed. After hesitating for a long time, she gently pinched his nose.

His Majesty said that only she is allowed to be so presumptuous in front of the Emperor.

His Majesty said so.

Although Yu Hao was bedridden, he remained vigilant. He suddenly opened his eyes, grabbed Chu Wan's hand, and squeezed it until her wrist turned blue.

"It's you...you actually dare to come right under my nose!" Yu Hao coughed twice, his anger barely contained.

Chu Wan smiled sadly, not feeling any pain as he held her hand tightly. Her fingertips held the small cup firmly, while her other hand rested on his heart. "Your Majesty, Wan'er wants to ask Your Majesty one last question."

"Get out! Where are the guards? Who dared to let you in?! Li Yuande!"

Perhaps his attitude was too intense, Yu Hao let go of his hand and couldn't stop coughing again.

"Over the years, has there ever been a time when Your Majesty felt that Wan'er could replace her sister and stay by Your Majesty's side?"

Your Majesty, even just once.

Chu Wan knelt before the dragon bed, almost pleading.

"Why don't you ask yourself why you haven't reflected on the evil consequences of your actions over the years?"

"If it weren't for the elaborate banquet scheme that tricked you, how long did you intend to keep it from me?"

Yu Hao couldn't get anyone to come. A cough just now had left him feeling weak all over, so he simply turned his head away from Chu Wan.

No one can replace your sister, not even you.

"That's what I think too."

Chu Wan straightened up, her eyes filled with tears and blood, with a hint of madness in them. "His Majesty has never been a fair person. When my sister was alive, he only looked after her. Now that she's gone, he favors me, the one who is most like her."

"Yes, Your Majesty can't save my sister, so this is the only way."

As she spoke, she laughed loudly and sarcastically, "She's dead! Dead! She died more than ten years ago!"

Her own flesh and blood have been neglected for over a decade, suffering endless scorn and oppression. Does His Majesty now want to make amends? It's too late!

"Would my sister resent His Majesty if she knew this from beyond the grave? Hahahaha..."

Chu Wan burst into laughter, tears streaming down her face, as if she had heard the biggest joke in the world.
