Chapter Eleven: A Real Outsider

Chapter Eleven: A Real Outsider

The time it takes to drink a cup of tea has passed.

Yu Shiyan's face was pale, and fine beads of sweat appeared on his forehead. His body was swaying slightly, but he was still gritting his teeth and persevering.

Yuan Siyin wanted to plead for him, but she had already spoken up for Yu Shiyan, which was too unusual. If she said anything more now, everyone would probably notice that something was wrong.

"Alright, please take a seat."

In the ensuing silence, the Empress Dowager suddenly relented and picked up her chopsticks again to serve food to Yuan Siyin. "Are you at ease now?"

Yuan Siyin nodded hurriedly, smiling sweetly, "Don't worry, don't worry, with Aunt by my side, how could I not be at ease?"

Yu Shiyan staggered slightly, but still maintained a calm and composed demeanor, thanking the Empress Dowager before sitting down.

Seeing Yuan Siyin's obedient and well-behaved demeanor in front of the Empress Dowager, his eyes darkened.

She's adept at saying one thing to someone's face and another behind their back; no wonder the Empress Dowager favored her so much.

The Empress Dowager glanced at Yu Shiyan out of the corner of her eye. He was neither humble nor arrogant, and his posture and sitting were upright. He seemed like a good person.

She had always thought him powerless and insignificant, and since Yin'er didn't get along with him, she had never given him a second glance. "Jadeite, serve the food to Xiao Qi."

"yes."

Emerald gracefully curtsied and walked to Yu Shiyan's side, placing food into the bowl in front of him.

Yu Shiyan smiled and thanked the Empress Dowager, then picked up a piece of food with his chopsticks and put it in his mouth.

It's both sweet and cloying.

Yu Shiyan looked up and gazed at Yuan Siyin, who was enjoying her meal.

I don't know how that woman could eat that.

"Aunt, you should try this! It's delicious. I want to have it again tonight!"

"You little rascal, you're never serious all day long. You're supposed to eat and sleep without talking. Have you forgotten all the rules I taught you?"

"Oh, Auntie, there's no one else here anyway, come on, come on, have a taste!"

Yuan Siyin impatiently brought the meatball to her lips, and the Empress Dowager had no choice but to open her mouth and swallow it: "Be careful with your hands, don't bump them on the corner of the table."

Listening to their conversation, Yu Shiyan remained silent and simply ate his food quietly.

Although the princes all addressed her as "Grandmother," by blood, her father was adopted into her family.

So it's not that there are no outsiders; he is a complete outsider.

"By the way, I remember, Yin'er injured you before. How is your injury now? Do you need more medicine?"

The Empress Dowager raised her head and began to inquire about Yu Shiyan's well-being.

"Reporting to Your Majesty, I am well and do not need any medicine."

The Empress Dowager nodded: "That would be best, but I see that your face is still terribly pale."

Jade, instruct the Western Kitchen to prepare a pot of black chicken soup. It must be simmered slowly over a low flame. Once it's done, send someone to Changbai Palace.

Also, I remember there are some ginseng roots in the storeroom; weigh out five taels and send them over as well.

"Yes, I've got it."

"Thank you for your grace, Your Majesty."

The Empress Dowager nodded, looking directly at him, and said, "I already knew about Yin'er injuring you before, but I was torn between them, and could only turn a blind eye. Do you understand my good intentions?"

"Grandson understands."

"Yes, I understand. You are a sensible person and have never caused any trouble since you were young. I am very pleased."

"Thank you for your praise, Grandmother. You are a wise and insightful person, and it is all thanks to your excellent upbringing that I dare not overstep my bounds in the slightest."

The Empress Dowager could hear the flattery in Yu Shiyan's words and smiled, "You're quite the charmer."

He lowered his head slightly to hide the sarcasm in his eyes: "Grandmother is too kind. I am just stating the facts."

Yuan Siyin watched the two of them practice Tai Chi, but found herself unable to join in, so she could only lower her head and eat.

Every meal she eats is one less meal she may have; you never know when she might be gone.

She had to eat something good before that.
