Chapter 122: A Woman Disguised as a Man

After a long standoff between Jin Cancan and the madam, it was finally the woman beside her who spoke up, sobbing, "The governor said that distinguished guests would be arriving soon and that he would select several dancers to serve them that night. I didn't want to go, so I ran away..."

Seeing that the matter had been brought to light, the madam, having nothing to lose, simply stopped hiding it and spoke up confidently: "That's right, this is all the governor's idea!"

"Those who know what's good for them won't meddle, or they'll lose their heads!"

Yuan Siyin knelt down and used a handkerchief to wipe the dust off the woman's face. "When and where?"

The woman was clearly startled when she spoke, but she still bit her lip and answered truthfully: "Tomorrow night on the Qin Nan River, on a painted boat."

Yuan Siyin nodded and stood up again: "Jin Cancan, come back."

After saying that, she looked at the madam who was lying on the ground and said, "If she doesn't want to go, I'll go in her place."

Hearing the slightly languid yet authoritative female voice, the madam finally realized what was happening.

"So that's why she's a young lady disguised as a man."

You? No offense, but the girls I train aren't just any Tom, Dick, or Harry…

Before the words were even finished, the heavy purse landed with a "thud" in front of the madam.

The madam's eyes lit up. The moment she saw the silver, her back pain disappeared and her legs felt nimble again. She grabbed the purse and smiled more happily than anyone else: "Oh my, young lady, your figure and looks are absolutely top-notch!"

"Since you want to take her place, then so be it! Don't worry, I'll take care of it. Just come to Ji Xiang Courtyard tomorrow!"

After saying that, the madam turned and left with her men, as if afraid that Yuan Siyin would change her mind.

Jin Cancan jumped up and down in pain: "How much silver is that! How could we just give it to her for nothing!"

"Or should we go and snatch it back?"

"Okay! Okay... seems like that won't work."

Faced with this suggestive topic, Jin Cancan immediately shut up, habitually shrinking her neck and obediently burying her head in the sand like an ostrich.

Seeing his quick wit, Yuan Siyin didn't press him further. She simply snorted and went over to help the woman up, saying, "Let's go to the clinic first."

The woman lowered her head, clutching her sleeve tightly, and said softly, "You can't go."

Yuan Siyin didn't expect that her first words wouldn't be to thank her, but to advise her not to take the risk.

She raised an eyebrow slightly, not taking it to heart: "It's alright."

"He's not a good person... He... He did it all for..."

“I know, which is why I’m even more determined to go.”

The thinly dressed woman suddenly looked up, quite surprised: "If you knew, why did you still go?"

"After all, I'm the one who took your place, so what's there to be anxious about?"

"Let's go. I need you to teach me some basics after you finish applying the medicine, so I can fish in troubled waters tomorrow."

Yuan Siyin smiled, offering no further explanation. She turned away, instantly losing the haughty demeanor she had displayed when dealing with the madam, as if she possessed two distinct personalities, able to control them with ease.

"Golden Chanchan, where are my steamed buns?"

"It looks like it was squeezed out of shape..."

Jin Cancan held up the steamed bun, which had been pinched so hard that it bore fingerprints, and asked ingratiatingly, "Sister Jin, do you think it's still edible?"

"Then let me see if you can still live."

Jin Cancan shrank back slightly and said pitifully, "It should be okay, right?"

"Go buy it again."

After turning out of the alley, they walked a few steps to a small clinic. Yuan Siyin thought that the golden, ghostly, foxy, and wolfish howls could be heard several streets away, so she simply tossed him a few copper coins and helped the woman into the clinic.

"My name is Qin Xiang. Thank you for saving me, young lady."

"No need to be polite, just call me by my current name."

Yuan Siyin helped her sit down, and while waiting for the doctor, the two chatted for a few minutes.
