Chapter Thirty-Eight: Settling the Matter and Publicizing the Relationship—The Choice.
Song Nian'an was in a great mood when she woke up the next day.
Stepping out of the bedroom, sunlight streamed in through the window, casting shadows of swaying tree branches onto the stone archway in the living room. He opened the window, inhaling the aroma of radishes and chives, and played "Ecological Paradise" by Phoenix Legend and Mei Yili on his phone—it was so catchy.
She brushed her teeth in front of the mirror while dancing to the rhythm.
I don't want to take Wen Jing's car to school today. I've been gaining weight at home for so many days, it's time to burn it off.
He skipped and hopped downstairs, not forgetting to do one last jump at Gokuraku Jodo.
Wen Jing was sitting at the dining table, drinking coffee and scrolling through the morning news, when he was disturbed by the clanging and banging noises.
Looking up, he frowned. "Are they... praying for rain or performing a ritual?"
"I'm dancing!"
"Oh, your dance moves are quite unique."
"I'm off to school. Bye-bye, honey." Song Nian'an tugged at Wen Jing's tie and kissed him.
Wen Jing was already used to Song Nian'an taking a sip of his drink. After adjusting his tie, he said, "Wait for me after class."
There were a lot of students and cars on the road today. When the driver dropped him off at the gate, he could see a lot of people gathered in the middle from afar, including reporters and many self-media staff.
Song Nian'an received a call from Cheng Letian after getting off the car:
"My goodness, why don't you reply to all the WeChat messages I send?"
"What's wrong?"
"My dear Anzai, I kept sending you messages because I remembered your kindness in protecting me. Shen Zhuangyue's fans have been causing trouble at the school for two or three days now!"
"Go ahead and block him, does he think he knows me?"
"Then go check it out on Weibo, the video is going viral."
Song Nian'an hung up the phone to check what kind of video could attract so much attention, when someone behind him honked their horn.
The loudest sound came from the loudspeaker at the school gate, along with the driver's shout: "You're blocking the way, handsome!"
The crowd turned around and looked at Song Nian'an in unison, like zombies.
One of the fans who stirred up trouble immediately pointed out: "It was him who caused Sister Yue to lose the female lead role."
Then, the zombies rushed over.
There was no time to think; given the choice between blocking the school gate and the alleyway leading to it, the alleyway was the obvious choice.
After finishing the run, Song Nian'an rested in a relatively safe place at the entrance of the alley, but then regretted it.
I didn't do anything wrong, why should I run away?
Looking at the time, I realized I got up really early but was still almost late. I shouldn't have done that.
Song Nian'an turned around and walked back, but unexpectedly, a stick hit him on the head, leaving him stunned.
Suddenly everything went black, and a sack was thrown over my head—good heavens!
"Beat him to death!"
The voice that spoke was that of a middle-aged man. Song Nian'an didn't believe that he was a brainwashed fan of the college students at the door.
Song Nian'an curled up on the ground, protecting her head. Seeing that the others had a chance to catch their breath, she immediately stood up and kicked one of them in a vital spot.
"You son of a bitch, you dare to kick me? Today I'll teach you a lesson on behalf of my sister."
The man forcefully pressed Song Nian'an's waist down with his elbow, causing him to grimace in pain.
Just as the club was about to fall, Cheng Letian arrived.
From the moment they got off the bus, Song Nian'an and Cheng Letian started real-time location tracking. Luckily, technology is advanced these days.
"What are you doing? You're not students at the school. I've already called the police. You're all going to jail!"
Cheng Letian shouted it out loud, each word uttered with full confidence.
Just as they were about to run away, Wen Jing kicked them away.
Several bodyguards stood next to Wen Jing, his tie was loose, and he was rolling up his shirt sleeves.
He lifted his eyelids to look at the man, his eyes dark and bright, as if fire was gushing from them.
Cheng Letian helped Song Nian'an take the sack off, and Song Nian'an coughed twice.
Nobody knows what Wen Jing will do.
With his hands in his pockets, he slowly approached the person who caused the accident, followed by several bodyguards, instantly exuding a powerful aura.
The man who was kicked away lay on the ground and instinctively backed away, but waited for him defiantly.
"I'm speechless. Who is this guy? Why is he so arrogant? He just brought a few bodyguards." He shouted mockingly, "Where did you pick up this rich guy for hooking up with? He looks even more stylish than that professor in the video."
Wen Jing walked over in a few steps, punched him to the ground, and pressed his body down, saying, "Touch him, and I'll cripple you."
Seeing the man struggling to climb up, Wen Jing kicked him again. Song Nian'an tried to stop him, but couldn't.
Only after the man's face was distorted from the beating did Wen Jing slightly reduce his strength, allowing his bodyguards to carry them out and dump them in a neglected garbage dump.
Song Nian'an went up to look at Wen Jing's hand, and found that he was completely unaware that the back of Wen Jing's hand was red, swollen and bleeding from the beating.
"Why are you here?" Song Nian'an hugged Wen Jing's waist, pressing her against his body and inhaling his chest scent.
"I was browsing Weibo this morning and saw the comments from fans on the trending topics."
"Oh, is your hand alright?" She checked on Wen Jing again, holding his hand and examining it repeatedly. "We'll buy an ice pack to cool it down in a bit, then it won't be so swollen."
Wen Jing hugged the person in his arms tighter. "Are you in any pain?"
At this point, Song Nian'an became smug. "Hey, I defeated them in one move. They can't do anything to me. Even though I was trapped in a sack, I moved nimbly and attacked their vital points, defeating them in one fell swoop."
Song Nian'an rattled off a whole bunch of things in one breath.
After hearing this, all Wen Jing could remember was the sack. He cursed the beast in his heart, realizing he hadn't gone too far earlier.
"Um... are you guys still going to class?" Cheng Letian, that big grudge, had just finished watching a scene from "Romance in the Rain".
He honestly explained to Wen Jing the events that had transpired at school and the fan disturbances of the past few days. He then put on a show with Song Nian'an, promising to take good care of him at school, running errands for him like a son, helping him to the toilet, saving him a seat, and pouring water and wiping his chair. Only then did Wen Jing agree to let Song Nian'an go to class today.
Wen Jing lightly slapped Song Nian'an on the back of the head and said, "You can choose between helping you settle this matter or making our relationship public. I'm not a saint; I can't stand by and do nothing when my wife is being bullied."
Song Nian'an rubbed the back of her head and pouted, "Then thank you, husband."
A smile appeared on Wen Jing's lips as he slowly said, "I'll thank you when I get home."
After the bodyguards and guards at the school gate communicated, the fans at the gate were dispersed, and Cheng Letian and Song Nian'an were able to enter the school.
On her way to the classroom, Song Nian'an looked at the maliciously edited video trending on Weibo.
The video shows Song Nian'an refusing to continue as an extra after hearing Shen Zhuangyue ask the director to remove the floor mats during the filming of an interior scene, and being taken away by Wen Siyan.
However, the camera angle only showed Shen Zhuangyue's pitiful face and Song Nian'an's back.
After being edited and narrated, the whole story became that Song Nian'an, acting as an extra, deliberately seduced the professor, and Shen Zhuangyue originally wanted to ask the professor a question, but was interrupted on the spot by Song Nian'an.
Rude, mistress, seducing a professor, shameless...
A flood of comments followed.
Some people even revealed old posts about the feud between Shen Zhuangyue and Song Nian'an, twisting the events at the banquet into a story of Song Nian'an seducing Shen Zhuangyue's ex-boyfriend and going berserk by throwing red wine.
Song Nian'an opened the comments and read them one by one:
"How despicable! With looks like that, he dares to bully our goddess. He should just die."
"That face looks like a vixen's, she's the kind of woman who bewitches men. I bet she's got some serious skills."
"It feels good to have me on my bottom. People like that are just sluts and need to be fucked."
...
I couldn't stand it anymore.
The internet truly is a lawless zone.
Otherwise, Song Nian'an in the book wouldn't have ended her life like that.
They distort the facts and follow the trend to spread rumors, completely shirking responsibility for their words.
Only now, having experienced this firsthand, does Song Nian'an truly understand how helpless those who are cyberbullied are.
He didn't want to indulge these people, so he registered a new Weibo account.
Using their own name, they started arguing in the comments section:
"You must be having a tough time. You didn't get into university, and your love life must be going badly too. Do you feel even more inferior when you see my picture in the mirror?"
"I don't know if I'm dead or not, but your goddess has no endorsements, no dramas, and no popularity. She's really dying. Go and comfort her."
"Your animalistic behavior is the mistake you have to spend your whole life correcting, how pathetic."
"It's better to keep quiet and look like an idiot than to open your mouth and let people confirm that you are an idiot."
"I envy your confidence, it's only because of your stupidity."
"If I lived like you, I would have strangled you with a single hair long ago."
I felt a sense of relief after I finished yelling.
Off to class, yo-yo.
Cheng Letian watched as Song Nian'an revealed his identity on Weibo and launched a fierce attack, feeling that he had completely changed and was not the same person as before.
No longer the fearful little devil she used to be, she has become more carefree and loves herself more.
