Chapter 121 Interesting Roommate
"This is your campus card. You can pick up your military training uniform at the Deyilou building up ahead. Your dorm is Building 1, Room 602... Do you know where Deyilou is?" The senior student in charge of welcoming the new students seemed a little dazed. She kept staring at the boy filling out the form and the other boy next to him, unable to take her eyes off him: "Do you want me to... take you there?"
Lin Huai raised his head; his features were handsome, and his eyelashes appeared exceptionally thick in the sunlight.
"No need, senior." The boy smiled. "We'll get to know each other on our own in a bit."
The senior opened her mouth, but the last bit of rationality she had was completely shattered by the boy's smile, leaving her mind blank.
"Here you go, senior." He left the form, then led the dormitory group back and walked away with another dazzling person.
"See? You just arrived and you've already started recruiting randomly. This senior student's eyes are practically popping out of her head..." Xiao You said.
"If I hadn't been protecting you, you would have been devoured by the other senior students!"
Along the way, there were senior students recruiting new members for clubs and helping to guide them. Fortunately, this was Xiao You's second time experiencing university life, so she felt very familiar with many things.
After collecting their belongings, they went to their dormitory. They had chosen the same major and were sharing a room. Xiao You skillfully helped Lin Huai make his bed and unpack his luggage.
Lin Huai stood to the side, smiling happily, looking at him with the same gaze one would give a virtuous wife and loving mother.
Just as I was finishing organizing, someone pushed the door open and came in.
"Wow, that's fast!"
The person who came in had a strong Northeastern accent. His mother followed behind and patted him on the head, saying, "How can you talk like that? Greet people properly."
The man chuckled and scratched his head, saying, "Hello, I'm General Manager Chen."
Xiao You burst out laughing, "President Chen?"
That's a really cool name.
Lin Huai stepped in front of him from the side, and shook hands with him. "Lin Huai, this is Xiao You, our high school classmate."
Ms. Chen quickly explained, "When we registered our child's name, it was all his father's fault. The young woman asked him what name he wanted for the child, but he was on the phone and didn't hear her clearly. His assistant shouted very loudly in the lobby, 'Mr. Chen!' The young woman thought it was just 'Mr. Chen,' and asked again in a questioning tone, 'Mr. Chen?' Then her father gave her an OK sign with a serious face. By the time he finished the call and came back, the name on the household registration had already changed to 'Mr. Chen.'"
Mr. Chen shook his head, seemingly unwilling to listen to his mother any further, while muttering to himself, "Why didn't you name me yourself back then?"
His mother slapped him on the back of the head, saying, "Doesn't your mother need to have a postpartum period?"
Xiao You thought to herself, "This roommate is really funny, she's quite nice."
Mrs. Chen was being overly enthusiastic and wanted to invite her roommates out to eat as well, but Lin Huai said, "No thanks, Auntie. We have plans with other people."
Mr. Chen's mother didn't insist, and even gave them two big apples before they left.
Only then did things quiet down.
A while later, another roommate arrived.
He was a dark-skinned, thin, and small boy.
He pulled three large coconuts from a checkered sack and said, "I brought them here by hand; they traveled a long way with me on the train."
Then he pulled out a fruit knife and started splitting the coconut on the spot, skillfully opening the top of the coconut and handing it to his three roommates who were in a daze.
Mr. Chen took the first step, drinking the coconut water with the same gusto he used to drink Wuliangye liquor, saying, "If I finish this coconut water today, it means the four of us are now sworn brothers!"
After saying that, he held up the coconut with one hand and drank it down in one gulp.
"Damn, it's still burning hot!"
Xiao You picked up the second coconut, took a milk straw from her bag, put it in, and drank it down little by little by biting the straw.
"It's very sweet, thank you!"
Elegant, so very elegant.
Two big eyes and four small eyes stared at Lin Huai. Boss Wang asked, "Brother, how are you planning to drink the coconut?"
Lin Huai sighed. He wondered how many points the person who asked the question had scored on the college entrance exam, and how else could they drink it? They could just drink it with their mouths.
Of course, he didn't dare say that, after all, President Wang was also a president.
He took a mug from the table and poured it out.
Mr. Wang clapped his hands: "Brilliant!"
Lin Huai: You may have some misunderstanding about intelligence.
Mr. Wang said, "I think it's too difficult to pronounce your names, so I'll give you nicknames to make you feel closer. You, it'll be you."
He pointed at the boy splitting the coconut and said, "You shall be called Little Blackie."
? ? ?
“Look how tanned you are! If you’re not tanned, who is?” Mr. Wang explained.
Seriously though, looking at the strength with which he gripped the knife, Lin Huai thought for a moment that the next person to have their skull cracked open wouldn't be Coconut, but President Wang.
He smiled calmly and said, "I'm glad you're happy. My name is Zong Heng, and I'm from Hainan. I welcome everyone to visit this beautiful island in the future."
"Lin Huai".
"Xiao You".
"I am General Manager Wang."
Zong Heng asked, "You're so young to start a business, that's really impressive."
"No, my name is just 'General Manager Wang,' not the real 'General Manager Wang.'"
...
Zong Heng's face twitched, and he nodded with a half-smile.
This person's name would be quite funny anywhere.
Mr. Wang is a very face-conscious person, and he insisted on having the entire label pasted on the door.
He took out a marker and a huge poster he had prepared from his bag. It featured four faceless brothers. Mr. Wang filled in the names of his roommates one by one, wrote "Computer Science and Technology," and posted it on the door.
It looks a bit eerie from the entrance.
It's like a talisman to ward off evil spirits; this dormitory is like a haunted house.
602 happens to be at the end of the corridor...
From then on, a legend circulated on the BBS forums of Tsinghua and Peking Universities.
Legend has it that the people in room 602 have no faces at night, but during the day they transform into various handsome men and appear on campus. They are particularly dazzling in the sunlight because at night, you can't see them at all.
Especially those two...
Legend has it that no one has ever seen them in the dormitory, but they attend classes together every day and are inseparable.
It's as if they can't live without someone.
Because they are contracted ghosts, they have performed hand seals.
Later, a brave soul sneaked up to the door of 602 in the middle of the night. Apart from the eerie "faceless talisman" at the door, all that could be seen in the window were two empty beds with no one on them!
The warrior was so frightened that he covered his mouth and ran back, leaving water stains on the ground along the way.
That's a story for another time.
