Chapter 11 The entire military region knew he had a fiancée.

"Old Gu, your eldest son is in Yuncheng, right? Why don't you give him a call and ask what kind of person this Huo family kid is in their military region? That way, we'll have some information to back us up." With that, Old Master Ruan pulled Old Gu aside and pressed him into a chair in front of the desk, giving him the impression that he needed to call right now so they could find out immediately.

Since it concerned his granddaughter, Old Master Gu didn't hesitate. After sitting down, he called his eldest son, Gu Wenpeng, who was far away in the Yuncheng Military Region.

"Ding ding ding ding"

"Hello, Yuncheng Military Region Command," Gu Wenpeng said, picking up the phone.

Seeing that Elder Gu was about to speak, Elder Ruan simply nudged his elbow with his hand.

"Wenpeng, are you busy right now?" After turning on the speakerphone, Old Gu first asked about his son's current situation. If he wasn't busy, he could ask about Huo's matter; if he was busy, then they would have to talk about it later.

"Dad? You're not busy right now. Is there something you need?" Upon hearing his father's voice, Gu Wenpeng was a little unsure. Wasn't it said that his niece was coming back today and the whole family went to see Old Man Ruan? How come they have time to call us?

"Wenpeng, it's like this, we'd like to ask you about someone. Is this a convenient time for you?" Old Ruan didn't give the father and son time to chat, and immediately cut to the chase.

"Uncle Ruan, you have time. Who do you want to inquire about?" Gu Wenpeng, hearing that Old Master Ruan was asking him about someone, wondered if something had happened at his unit that he was unaware of. After all, the two old men were men of considerable status.

Do you know a guy in your unit named Huo Haocheng?

"Huo Haocheng, I know him, that kid is a rare talent. Didn't he take leave and go home? Did something happen to him?"

Huo Haocheng's military achievements in Yuncheng over the years are all genuine; he's become a battalion commander at such a young age, with a bright future ahead of him. I hope nothing bad happens to him now.

"It's like this..." Then, Old Ruan and Old Gu explained the situation between Ruan Ruan and Huo Haocheng, one after the other, clarifying that they just wanted to ask about Huo Haocheng—what kind of person he was, and whether he was reliable.

"Dad, Uncle Ruan, I can assure you, Huo Haocheng is a truly exceptional talent in the military. You can also trust his character. Back when he joined the army at 18, the entire unit knew he had a fiancée at home. He didn't even glance at the girls in the army. I've also heard that he never went to watch the cultural troupe's performances. I've heard from the political department that he sends every penny of his monthly salary home. Many people privately say that his fiancée must be a goddess to make him act like that. This time, he's home on wedding leave, and everyone in the army is waiting for him to bring his wife to meet everyone! Now that you're saying this, I can only say that our Ruan Ruan is a lucky man." One was his soldier, and the other was his niece. Gu Wenpeng was delighted to see them become revolutionary partners. What a coincidence! The niece he had been searching for for so many years was right under his nose.

Hearing Gu Wenpeng's words, everyone felt relieved. Someone who received such high praise from him must be a good person.

"Alright, since you put it that way, let's leave it at that for now. We'll talk about other things after we meet the person. I'm hanging up now." After saying that, Old Ruan hung up the phone directly. Old Gu and the others had something to say, so they would discuss it back at the later stage when things were settled here.

"Well then, Dad, you all go ahead with your work. We'll head out now. Let's discuss what we need to bring," said Madam Ruan, leading everyone out of the study, leaving the old men to wait for news.

After leaving the study, the younger generation returned to the backyard. This time, the topic turned to Ruan Ruan and Huo Haocheng. They were all quite curious about their way of getting along. Logically speaking, even if the country people spoiled her, they couldn't possibly raise Ruan Ruan to be such a refined young lady.

Then, Ruan Ruan slowly reminisced about their daily interactions and the Huo family's attitude towards her.

Meanwhile, Ruan's mother pulled her younger brother and sister-in-law, Su Yunxin, to learn about their trip to the Huo family and see what they needed so they could bring it along. She said, "They've raised your daughter for so many years and raised her so well; you really should thank them properly."

Ruan Ruan's father, Shan Shan, didn't return until just before dinner. He was carrying a file folder. He knocked on the door and went into the study. Ruan Ruan saw what her father was carrying and figured it must be the data from that project. Now that the data was back, that traitor Sun Yang shouldn't be able to escape now. Ruan Ruan felt relieved. She happily talked to Qian Ling about her marriage to her brother.

After dinner, everyone went about their own business. Ruan's father returned to his unit, Ruan's mother stayed in their own house in the compound, and Ruan Ruan continued to live at her grandfather's house.
