Time flies, and early in the morning, Huo Haocheng and Gu Jinghe drove to Yuncheng Railway Station to pick up their loved ones.
"You take care of the people from Beijing, and I'll take care of mine." Huo Haocheng and Gu Jinghe stood at the exit of the train station, watching the crowds coming and going. Apart from the people he met at Ruan Shaohong's wedding, he didn't know any of the younger generation from Beijing. Gu Jinghe had lived in Beijing for several years, and he didn't know any of Huo Haocheng's younger brothers either. So, dividing the work was the best approach.
"Okay, luckily I was prepared." Gu Jinghe said, taking out a piece of paper from his pocket. When he unfolded it, the names of Lu Shuyu and He Yuwei were clearly written on it. As for why he didn't write the names of the two female comrades, Ruan Ruan said that the two men felt that if the names of the two female comrades were written, what would passers-by think? Anyway, their brother was traveling with them, so it would be more convenient to write the names of the male comrades.
At 9:10 a.m., the train from Shen City arrived first. Before Huo Haoshen and the other three came, they spoke with Ruan Ruan on the phone. Ruan Ruan felt that traveling was inconvenient in the first place, and it would be even more inconvenient to carry so many bags. So she only asked them to bring a few changes of clothes, and everything else was prepared for them.
So when they boarded the bus, they saw people with large and small bags. Because there were so many people, their belongings were scattered in the crowd, and some were even worse—people simply stepped on them, damaging them. Because of the large number of people, they couldn't find anyone to compensate them and could only accept their bad luck. They once again marveled at Ruan Ruan's foresight.
"Hey, Haoli, isn't that brother-in-law over there?" Zheng Xujie was being pulled along by Huo Haoli, following behind Zheng Xuyang and Huo Haoshen. At first, he was doing well, but in no time he was pushed aside by the crowd. If Huo Haoli hadn't been holding him, this short guy would have been pushed off somewhere. Just as he looked up to look for Zheng Xuyang and Huo Haoshen, he saw Huo Haocheng standing to the side.
"Where?" Huo Haoli looked ahead but didn't see anyone.
“There, do you see?” Zheng Xujie pointed to the two people standing not far to their left.
"You really do have a sharp eye," Huo Haoli praised him, then pulled him to squeeze towards where Huo Haocheng was standing. He didn't bother looking for Huo Haoshen and Zheng Xuyang anymore, since they could get there on their own once they saw Huo Haocheng's spot.
"Big brother, big brother!"
"Brother-in-law, brother-in-law, we're here!"
Despite the distance being only a few meters, they managed to squeeze together for several minutes.
"Slow down, watch your step." Actually, Huo Haocheng had seen them when they got out of the car, but there were too many people, and as a soldier, he couldn't call out to them in public. He could only watch them walk forward, thinking he would look for them when there were fewer people. Unexpectedly, Zheng Xujie had such sharp eyes.
The two people who were walking forward with the crowd turned around after hearing Zheng Xujie and Huo Haoli's voices and realized that the two had not followed. Then, after hearing Huo Haocheng's voice, they also walked over.
After the four of them arrived at Huo Haocheng's side, Huo Haocheng handed them the roasted rice cakes and steamed buns he was holding. "Have something simple to eat first. We still need to wait for the people coming from the capital. They won't be here for a few more minutes."
They had no objections and took the breakfast Huo Haocheng handed them and started eating. These past few days, their families had prepared some food for them when they went out, but the weather was too hot to bring too much, and they finished it all in one day. For the remaining days, they bought food on the train, which was quite expensive, so this morning they thought they had arrived anyway and didn't buy any food.
Huo Haocheng had anticipated that they might do this, so before coming, he went to the state-run restaurant to pack some breakfast for them.
At 9:30, the train from Beijing arrived. As the train pulled into the station, Gu Jinghe stood on a stone bench nearby, holding up a piece of paper with his name on it.
"Brother, look, that person is holding up your names, they must be the ones who came to pick us up, right?" Lu Shuyan saw the paper Gu Jinghe was holding up through the car window and pulled Lu Shuyu over to ask.
As the train approached the station, they were still worried about who was supposed to pick them up. What if they couldn't find them? So, as they entered the station, they started looking out to see who it seemed to be. But no one expected it to be in such a unique way. And it really was quite conspicuous; everyone getting off the train would glance at them.
"Now that we've seen them, let's grab our things and get off the bus! Check your belongings so you don't forget anything." After seeing the people, Lu Shuyu recognized the person holding the sign with their names on it as Gu Jinghe. He guessed that the person in military uniform standing next to him must be Comrade Ruan Ruan's lover, Huo Haocheng.
After checking again to make sure they hadn't left anything behind, the group got off the bus with the crowd. The two men shielded the two girls in the middle and slowly moved them toward their location.
"Lu Shuyu, long time no see!" Gu Jinghe stepped forward to help take the luggage from Lu Shuyu's hands when he saw them coming.
"There are too many people here, let's go out first." Huo Haocheng saw that everyone was there and the two girls had a lot of luggage, so he went up and took the things from He Yuwei's hands, and then led them to the parking area.
"Let's go. What are you two looking at?" Zheng Xujie watched as everyone else left, but Huo Haoshen and Zheng Xuyang remained standing there. Zheng Xujie looked in the direction they were staring—the direction people were getting off the bus. But there was nothing there.
"Oh, oh, let's go." The two came to their senses and, seeing that everyone had gone far away, quickly followed.
"Come on, Lu Shuyu, put your luggage in the car. We brought you some food this morning, so have a little something to eat first. You can have lunch when you get home. Ruan Ruan and my girlfriend are cooking at home." When they arrived at the parking spot, Gu Jinghe opened the trunk, put the luggage in his hands, and then took the luggage from their hands before explaining to them that it wasn't that Ruan Ruan didn't want to pick them up, but there was simply no room in the car. She had already prepared lunch at home and was waiting for them.
