After everything was arranged, the Huo family acted as if nothing had happened and went about their business as usual. The Sun family arrived on the afternoon of the third day after receiving the letter. Among them were Sun Huai'an and his wife Zhao Shuyi, their son Sun Yuchu, their daughter-in-law Li Suhe, their daughter Sun Yuling, their 8-year-old daughter Sun Lin, and their 10-year-old grandson Wu Yitong.
When Sun Yuling learned that her husband had reported her father, she resolutely divorced him, taking her son with her, and went to the countryside with her parents. Although her parents, brother, and sister-in-law strongly opposed it and even wanted to publish a notice in the newspaper to sever ties with her, Sun Yuling felt that it was because she had misjudged people that she had harmed her whole family, so she came along.
The family was dressed in thin clothes. Apart from being extremely tired, they seemed to be doing well. Huo Songbai and Huo Haocheng had picked them up. The people who brought them had been terrified from the moment they entered Shen City, thanks to the combined efforts of people arranged by Uncle Ruan and those sent by the Gu family.
They didn't do much, because the people escorted over were all early Cultural Revolution figures. They were just bored and had nothing better to do than wear red armbands and scare people around. They were a bunch of bullies who preyed on the weak.
The people who were trying to scare them took advantage of Huo Haocheng's recent investigation into the Cultural Revolution in Shenyang and hired a few people to spread rumors at their rest stop. They said that the Cultural Revolution people in Shenyang were now in trouble and that the police were arresting them. They claimed that people wearing red armbands would be chased and beaten on the streets. They even took advantage of the group's absence while they were using the restroom to put sacks on them.
So they took the Sun family to the Cultural Revolution Office, where they saw only a handful of children working there trembling with fear. Upon learning that all the high-ranking leaders were inside, they became even more frightened. So when they learned from the staff that Huo Songbai was the brigade leader they were going to, they dumped him on him and ran away. The group headed straight for the bus station and took the next available bus, leaving Shen City.
The Huo family father and son waited there on purpose. The few people still working in Shenyang City had some dealings with the Huo family, so when Huo Songbai explained his purpose, they were willing to help.
"Uncle Huo, I've completed the registration process. You can take the person with you now."
"Okay, Xiaoyu, thank you. I'll give my regards to your parents when I get back."
"Okay, Uncle Huo, take care."
"I am Huo Songbai, the captain of the Red Flag Brigade. Everyone, get on the bus, let's leave first."
Huo Songbai led the Sun family towards the main group. Huo Haocheng appeared shortly after they left. Although those people had left, there was no guarantee they wouldn't suddenly return or be followed by others. As the saying goes, "The mantis stalks the cicada, unaware of the oriole behind," and no one knows who the oriole will be.
After confirming that there was no one behind Huo Songbai and his group and that it was safe, Huo Haocheng gave chase in his car.
"Uncle Sun, I'll boldly call you Uncle. You're Wencheng's teacher, which means you're our teacher too. You and your family can stay here in peace. If you need anything, just let me know."
The moment the incident happened at home, Gu Wencheng and his fellow apprentices began to run around for them. They discussed many places before finally choosing this location. The Sun family thought that no matter what, as long as their lives could be saved, that was all that mattered. As long as they were alive, nothing else mattered.
"Thank you so much, Captain Huo. I'm already very grateful that you're willing to call me 'Uncle' at this time." Since the Sun family's incident, many relatives have distanced themselves, fearing that their own family's affairs would implicate them. Now, a complete stranger is willing to risk helping because of a student's letter, which brings a sliver of comfort to his cold heart.
“Uncle, everyone knows that the truly bad guys will get their comeuppance. You have to believe that good people are rewarded. Uncle, once you're here, don't worry, no one will dare to touch you. Just say you're distant relatives from the Huo family, and that your whole family is in trouble and you've come to us for help. We've arranged housing for you. If anyone asks, just say that. Nobody here will know your true identities.”
"This will cause you trouble. Just continue as before. We're fine with suffering a little. Please don't let us cause you any trouble!"
Upon hearing Huo Songbai's arrangements, the Sun family dared not even consider it. They would be committing a sin if their actions caused them trouble.
"Don't worry, there won't be any trouble. By the time others find out, you'll have already been exonerated. Maybe no one will even notice when you get back. Just relax."
"Alright, then we'll have to trouble you. We can only repay your family's great kindness after we return home."
The group chatted on and on, and Huo Haocheng followed along.
"Father, there's no problem. Everything else has been taken care of."
"Uncle Sun, this is my son, Huo Haocheng. He came with me to pick you up, but I was in the open while he was in the shadows."
"Professor Sun, hello, I am Huo Haocheng. I apologize for not being able to come out and greet you earlier. Sun Hongxin and I are comrades-in-arms. I received a letter from him a couple of days ago."
Hearing Huo Songbai's introduction and Huo Haocheng mention Sun Hongxin, the Sun family's hearts warmed up again. They were all relatively safe now, and their biggest worry was Sun Hongxin. Hearing news of him now, they couldn't help but feel excited.
“You and my son are comrades-in-arms, do you know how he is now?” Li Suhe said excitedly. Since Sun Hongxin secretly returned last time, there has been no news of him. They are very worried about him and don’t know if he has heard that he has returned to the army.
"He's fine. You can give him a call once you've settled in." Huo Haocheng knew how to convey Sun Hongxin's current feelings. He must be very worried too. Nothing was better than them telling him themselves.
"Okay, okay, that's good. We'll contact him again later."
And so, the Huo father and son took the people back to the village and put them up in the Huo family's old house. The old house had been renovated by Huo Haocheng and his men in the past two days. It was an old-fashioned house with four rooms, a main room, a kitchen, a toilet, and a backyard, which was more than enough for the Sun family to live in.
Initially, they planned to put them in the cowshed, but after talking to Gu Wencheng on the phone, they learned that the Sun family would be exonerated soon and they couldn't go back for a while. So it wouldn't be appropriate for them to stay in the cowshed then. In the end, it was Old Master Huo who made the decision to put them in the Huo family's old house. Anyway, the house was ready and could be renovated. This was considered to be doing justice to the trust placed in them by others.
After seeing the Huo family renovating their old house, the villagers heard that distant relatives of the Huo family were coming to stay with them, and they were all curious about what kind of family would be coming.
