After the three finished eating, Ruan Ruan told Qian Ling and Ruan Shiya to rest first and not to worry about them. They had finally gotten together and didn't know how long they would drink. Afterwards, she went back to her room to rest.
Today is Ruan Shaohong's wedding, and many of his childhood friends from the compound have returned. Huo Haocheng's appearance has been quite a blow to these once-proud young men, who hadn't even gone home yet. Now that they've finally met him in person, they might as well beat him in a drinking contest.
"Brother, you have no idea, these past few days, we've all been given a lecture by our fathers, even though we're thousands of miles apart," Deng Yi said, holding a wine glass in one hand and having one hand on Huo Haocheng's shoulder.
“It’s not just talk; I could feel the old man’s gaze at me over the phone. He just thought I was a good-for-nothing,” Ge Xiaotian chimed in.
"You guys are still outside, while I'm at home. My mom looks at me like I'm good for nothing every day. These past few days, I've tried my best not to show up in front of her. I'm practically living in the dorm." After what happened a couple of days ago, Lin Qingyuan was truly impressed by Huo Haocheng. Especially after his dad came home and told the family about it, his mom felt that Ruan Shaohong and Huo Haocheng were better than the brothers in every way.
"Hahaha, you finally know my suffering. These past few years, I've been in the same military region as him, and my dad always compares us. Naturally, he's the one who gets praised, and I'm the one who gets scolded. Can you understand how I feel? Several times I've considered applying for a transfer," Gu Jinghe said gloatingly.
"You guys didn't see it. When he heard that his wife was his niece, Old Gu was so happy at home. He and my mom even opened his collection of wine. This time when I came back, my mom kept asking me when she would have a daughter-in-law. I want a wife too, but she's not being proactive. It's my fault, isn't it?"
"Hey bro, do you have a sister? Can you introduce me to her?" Gu Jinghe tugged at Huo Haocheng, feeling a bit irritated by the fact that the two of them had gotten married one after another.
"I do have a younger sister, but Fu Mingyi has already taken her away," Huo Haocheng said calmly, pulling him off his body and pressing him down on a stool.
"You really have a sister? Why didn't you introduce her to me? She might have been snatched away by that dog." Gu Jinghe and Fu Mingyi were also good friends. The three of them were in the Yuncheng Military Region. Before Fu Mingyi retired, the three of them were known as the Iron Triangle. They always went on missions together. Later, Fu Mingyi was injured and retired, but the three of them continued to correspond.
"They hit it off at my wedding. Isn't there a doctor pursuing you? He hasn't won you over yet." Huo Haocheng's tactic of shifting the blame directly diverted the brothers' attention from him to Gu Jinghe.
"Hey little box, you're up to no good! Someone's pursuing you, and the worst part is you haven't said yes yet. Tell us what's going on?"
The brothers rarely get together, and unlike women, they don't call or write to chat about gossip when something happens. They only talk about their situations when they're rarely home, and even then, it's mostly brief. Bad things are in the past; talking about them only adds to the trouble, so why bother?
"It was nothing much. I just got a minor injury during a mission, really just a minor injury. A bullet went through my arm, and I was hospitalized for two days. I knew it was nothing, and I could have gone home to recover, but she wouldn't have agreed. She said she was afraid of secondary infection and insisted that I stay in the hospital for two days. That's how we met. Then, when I was discharged, she... she... she said she liked me and asked if I liked her too."
The girl's name was Jiang Yuli. She was a doctor at Yuncheng Military Hospital. She had heard stories about soldiers from the elders since she was a child, so she had a great fondness for soldiers. Once, she treated Gu Jinghe. A bullet had pierced his arm. When he was brought to the hospital, his calm demeanor captivated her, so she made an excuse to let him stay in the hospital for two days.
These past few days, whenever she had free time, she would go to see him. When she was being discharged from the hospital, fearing she might never see him again, she impulsively confessed her feelings. Then came the drama of her chasing and him running away, which the two of them enjoyed immensely. The people in the family area also found it amusing, knowing that there was something going on between the two of them.
"Hey bro, that girl confessed to you, aren't you going to do anything about it? Something doesn't feel right to me!" Everyone sensed something was off after hearing Gu Jinghe's words.
"He's just a bit slow," Huo Haocheng replied for him. Everyone in the world could see that he liked the girl too, but he just couldn't figure it out.
"What's wrong with me? How dare you talk to me like that? Don't think that just because you're my brother-in-law, I won't dare to beat you up. Speak properly."
Feeling unbearably hot in her room, Ruan Ruan went downstairs to make shaved ice, only to overhear something so amusing. She also realized that her cousin was a bit clueless when it came to relationships.
"Brother He, which girl do you like?" Ruan Ruan directly asked the question they wanted to ask.
"What does it mean to like someone?" Gu Jinghe had never liked anyone since he was a child, so he didn't know what it meant to like someone.
"Have you thought about her since you haven't seen her these past few days?" Ruan Ruan asked after thinking for a moment.
"Yes, but it wouldn't exactly be considered liking. I haven't seen Huo Haocheng for a few days, and I miss him quite a bit," Gu Jinghe said, puzzled. Could it be that he also liked Huo Haocheng? The thought of that... well, let's just forget about it.
"Shut up!" Huo Haocheng glared at him, wanting to crack open his head to see what was going on.
Ruan Ruan hadn't expected Gu Jinghe to have such a peculiar thought process, so she stepped forward, kissed Huo Haocheng, and then asked, "How do you feel?"
Seeing Ruan Ruan treat them like family and kiss them right in front of them, the group started cheering. Some whistled, some were shy, but of course, they all offered their blessings. They were all soldiers; it wasn't easy for them to find someone they truly liked.
