Chapter 82 Arrival in Cloud City

In the evening, Huo Haocheng deliberately went after everyone had almost finished eating, and returned with three meals.

"Eat up, you must be hungry," Huo Haocheng said, opening Ruan Ruan's portion and handing her chopsticks. "Everything's arranged. Now it's up to the police."

As the three ate their meal, the two train police officers, having already conducted their previous investigation, immediately changed into civilian clothes and waited for the next stop. They would disembark at the front of the train, walk over, and then board. Disguised as passengers, they sat directly opposite the woman.

In the following days, Ruan Ruan tried to eat and drink as little as possible to reduce her trips to the toilet. She stayed in bed day and night. Occasionally, she would overhear Gu Jinghe talking about gossip in the family compound, so even before Ruan Ruan arrived, everyone in the compound knew pretty much everything.

The train arrived in Yuncheng at 7:00 AM. This time, Huo Haocheng and his group didn't wait for everyone to leave; instead, they got off the train as soon as it stopped.

"Battalion Commander Huo, Battalion Commander Gu," came Gu Wenpeng's bodyguard, Xiao Li, to greet them. "This must be Battalion Commander Huo's wife, right?" Xiao Li asked Huo Haocheng, looking at Ruan Ruan.

"This is my wife, Ruan Ruan," Huo Haocheng introduced Ruan Ruan and Xiao Li, "This is my uncle's bodyguard, Xiao Li."

Xiao Li knew that Huo Haocheng was going back to get married, but he never expected that his wife would be Commander Gu's niece.

Hello, sister-in-law.

"Hello, Xiao Li, thank you for picking us up so early in the morning." Looking at Xiao Li's baby face, Ruan Ruan thought the young man looked so young, you'd think he was a minor.

After putting their luggage away, the group got into the car and left. The man who had been following them saw them get into a military vehicle and knew he had messed up. He immediately ran over, found his accomplice, and quickly left, getting into a private car without license plates.

After getting into the car, Ruan Ruan tugged at Huo Haocheng's clothes and gestured with her eyes.

"Xiao Li, let's go to the state-run restaurant first. We're hungry. We'll eat first and then go back," Huo Haocheng said to Xiao Li.

Ten minutes later, we arrived at the state-run restaurant, where a few people were sitting and eating breakfast.

"Four bowls of shredded pork rice noodles, please, and eight steamed buns."

"Commander Huo, I've already had breakfast," Xiao Li said when he heard Huo Haocheng order four portions, including his own.

"Eat some more after you've already eaten," Huo Haocheng said, ignoring him and paying for the tickets himself.

After paying, Huo Haocheng sat back down next to Ruan Ruan. "Ersi (a type of rice noodle) is a local specialty breakfast. Try it and see if you like it."

A few minutes later, number 8, come and bring your rice noodles and steamed buns.

The three grown men got up to get the bowl. "Hurry up and try it," Huo Haocheng said, placing the bowl in front of Ruan Ruan.

Ruan Ruan stared into thought at the bowl, which was bigger than her head. The portion size in the 1970s was really generous. If this were in the 22nd century, it would be twice the amount.

"What's wrong? Don't you want to eat?" Huo Haocheng asked when he saw Ruan Ruan hesitate to pick up her chopsticks.

"There's too much, I can't eat it all," Ruan Ruan said, moving her bowl as if to pick out some of it.

"You eat first, I'll eat the rest, okay?"

Since Huo Haocheng had said so, Ruan Ruan started eating. The first bite was delicious, the second bite was okay, the third bite was a little greasy, and the fourth bite was too much.

"Don't you like the food?" Seeing that Ruan Ruan only ate four bites and then didn't want to eat anymore, Huo Haocheng knew that she didn't like this food, so he poured the food from her bowl into his own bowl, picked up a bun and put it in front of her. "If you don't like it, then don't eat it. Eat the bun." Ruan Ruan smiled and picked up the bun and started eating.

Looking at all this, Xiao Li felt he was already full. Everyone in the family compound knew that Commander Huo loved his wife very much, but they didn't know how he loved her. They were so affectionate in public, so what was he like at home?

"Eat your food, don't worry about them," Gu Jinghe said to Xiao Li, knowing what he was thinking just by looking at his expression.

After having breakfast, Xiao Li drove an hour back to the military base and parked his car in front of a courtyard.

"Commander Huo, sister-in-law, the Commander and Teacher Shen already cleaned the yard before, and the blankets were aired out. Teacher Shen said the children will be on holiday soon, and she can't leave, so she told you to rest first and have dinner at their place tonight. It's nothing else, I'll be going now," Xiao Li said, handing the yard key to Huo Haocheng.

"Thank you for your hard work, Xiao Li. Here are our wedding candies. Enjoy them." Ruan Ruan took out a small bag of wedding candies, melon seeds, peanuts, and other snacks from her bag and handed it to Xiao Li.

"Thank you, sister-in-law. Congratulations on your marriage, Battalion Commander Huo and your wife!" Xiao Li took the wedding candy, put it in his pocket, and happily drove back to report. He was happy because he was the first person in the entire military region to receive Battalion Commander Huo's wedding candy.

"Alright, you guys get some rest too. I'm going back to rest too. My mom wants you to come over for dinner tonight, don't forget!" With that, Gu Jinghe picked up his luggage and headed home.

The family compound of the Yuncheng Military Region is shaped like a spoon, with all the houses surrounding a large pine tree in the center. The women there often like to sit under the tree and chat.

The courtyard was built in concentric circles. There was only one road leading into the residential compound. Behind the houses were the compound's private plots, and behind that were mountains. A river separated the mountains from the private plots, and several bridges were built across the river to make it easier for the women to go up the mountain to pick mushrooms and such.
