Bonus Chapter 2: Bai Sirui vs. Ruan Shaoke 2

After the New Year, Ruan Shaoke went on several missions with Bai Sirui, and he completed each mission very well.

Persley also used his holidays to return to his former home, a place he thought he would never come back to.

This place, which he used to call home when his father was still alive, was abandoned when he was six years old. His father died in the line of duty, and his mother, despising him as a burden, ran away with someone else. From then on, he became an unwanted orphan. Otherwise, the neighbors and his father's comrades would come to visit him. He didn't even know if he could survive to grow up.

He was once lost in life. Even when his uncles brought him into the army after he grew up, he just drifted along, training hard every day and completing his missions well. In his eyes, it was just because he was wearing this uniform.

He felt that if he died on the battlefield that day, just like his father, it would be a way for him to have lived a meaningful life.

It wasn't until he met Ruan Shaoke that a glimmer of light appeared in his eyes, so he desperately tried to grasp that light.

Regardless of whether Ruan Shaoke agrees or not, he intends to keep the person by his side.

So, after confessing his feelings, he kept thinking about getting married.

Although their relationship was clandestine, so what? He still wanted to marry her. Even without that certificate, he still wanted to bring her back to a home where he could have her.

Therefore, he used his rest time to clean and rearrange the place where he used to live.

He retrieved a lot of newspapers from the recycling center and used them to repair all the walls in the house. Then he replaced all the furniture in the house with new ones.

I also went to the supply and marketing cooperative and bought a piece of cloth to hang curtains behind the windows in my house.

I also bought several sets of ready-made clothes for the two of them.

After this whole ordeal, he used up all the cloth coupons and industrial coupons he had saved over the years.

After seeing his home after it was furnished, he felt it was all worth it.

On Ruan Shaoke's birthday, Bai Sirui took leave for both of them.

The day before, as soon as training ended, Bai Sirui took Ruan Shaoke back to his meticulously decorated home.

What's going on here?

Bai Sirui never told Ruan Shaoke that he had another house in the city. Of course, Ruan Shaoke never asked about Bai Sirui's affairs either, because he had heard from his comrades that Bai Sirui's father died in the line of duty when he was 6 years old and his mother abandoned him and ran away. He had always lived alone, so he did not want to touch on his sad memories and never asked. This also meant that he did not know that Bai Sirui's hometown was in the local area.

"From now on, this is our home. How about it? Are you happy?" With that, Bai Sirui ignored the curiosity in his eyes and started showing the man around.

"From now on, this will be our room. Take a look and see if there's anything missing. I'll get it for you tomorrow."

Following his words, Ruan Shaoke gave a quick look around the room before the two of them went into the bedroom.

In the bedroom, Bai Sirui replaced the bed and wardrobe with new ones, and cleaned the walls spotlessly, showing that he really put a lot of effort into it.

"There's nothing missing, so this is perfect."

In Ruan Shaoke's view, they rarely come back here, so having a place to sleep and eat is enough; nothing else matters.

Seeing that Ruan Shaoke said that, Bai Sirui took it as if he really thought it was okay, and then went to the kitchen to cook a bowl of noodles for each person.

"Let's just eat whatever we have tonight. Tomorrow is your birthday, and it's also our wedding day. We'll get some food from the state-run restaurant and eat it there."

Bai Sirui felt that since they were only staying at home for two days, there was no need to go out to buy groceries and cook for themselves. Ruan Shaoke didn't think there was anything wrong with his statement.

When Ruan Shaoke heard that tomorrow was their wedding day, he really hadn't expected it.

During the Chinese New Year, he said he would give himself a wedding. However, more than half a year has passed since he said it, and I always thought he was just saying it and then forgot about it. I didn't expect that he would remember it.

Only then did Ruan Shaoke seriously examine the house, from the sofa, tables and chairs to the cabinets, the bed in the bedroom, and the separate study, all arranged according to his preferences.

So, when he wasn't looking, did Bai Sirui really want to spend his whole life with him?

Seeing that Ruan Shaoke remained silent, Bai Sirui assumed he had accidentally said something to upset him and immediately asked, "Did I say something wrong? If you don't want to, we can..."

"No, you didn't say anything wrong. Don't overthink it. We're getting married tomorrow. It's a good day."

Ruan Shaoke interrupted him when he was about to suggest that they could skip the wedding tomorrow. Now he knew that Bai Sirui was completely focused on marrying him, so how could he let his plans go to waste?

“If you feel it’s too much to ask…” Bai Sirui knew that it was wrong of him to make the decision without telling him beforehand, but he just wanted to give him a surprise. If Ruan Shaoke was angry about it, he could choose another date. Anyway, he was determined to marry him.

"I didn't force you. I just thought you forgot that you said you would give yourself a wedding." Ruan Shaoke didn't want any unpleasantness with him at this time, nor did she want him to overthink things on his own, so she spoke her mind directly.

"How could I forget? I've always kept your words in mind." With that, Bai Sirui took Ruan Shaoke's hand and placed it over his heart.

"Okay, I understand." Ruan Shaoke thought his behavior was childish, but she was still very happy. She nodded perfunctorily to indicate that she understood.
