Looking at the small fire in the stove and the soup bubbling in the pot, he knew it was almost time. He removed the firewood from the stove, got up, poured a glass of water and placed it on the dining table, then went inside to call his wife to get up and eat.
After entering the room, he didn't turn on the lights. The room was lit only by the dim moonlight and the light coming from the living room. He walked to the bedside, sat on the edge of the bed, leaned down, and gently called her name twice in her ear. When she didn't respond, he used the same half-wake-up method he used before and kissed her.
