Lan Zhiyu and his group left in the morning, and the musical instrument transport vehicle arrived in the afternoon. Fearing that such precious items might be damaged, Commander Gu specially brought a squad of soldiers to help. According to the prior arrangement, Principal Fu and the other teachers placed each instrument in its corresponding position.
In the following days, the sports equipment that Zheng Xuyang had ordered arrived, and the basketball hoops and ping-pong tables on the playground were installed.
The extracurricular books and magazines that Ruan Ruan asked Ruan Chuanji to order have all arrived. They were delivered by truck, a whole truckload.
Before the start of the school year, the teachers began to clean the school. When the students saw this, they consciously brought basins or buckets with rags from home to help every day. With the joint efforts of the students and teachers, the school was finally cleaned before the start of the school year.
September 1st was the first day of school. Early in the morning, teachers of each grade and class were sitting in their respective classrooms waiting for the students assigned to their classes to arrive and register.
The day before, the pharmaceutical factory issued a notice stating that on the first day of school, if both parents were at work, one parent could take the child to register for half a day with pay. If only one parent was at work, they could explain the situation to their supervisor and also take half a day with pay to take the child to register.
The workers were very happy about the announcement. They had been thinking that the school was so close, and they often went there during holidays, and they were always in groups, so they weren't too worried. However, they felt a little guilty for not being able to take their children to school on their first day because of their busy work schedules. But now that the announcement was out, they were happy to be able to send their children to school.
Around 7 a.m., villagers from nearby areas began to bring their children to register. Considering that some parents were illiterate and did not understand the class assignments posted on the bulletin board, two soldiers were specially borrowed from the military to stand there and help those who could not read to look at the information.
With so many children today, and worried that some criminals might sneak in, Commander Gu arranged for two classes of people to patrol inside and outside the school.
The children who arrived early were able to find their classes quickly by following the signs, and as more and more people arrived, the once quiet school suddenly became lively.
When Uncle Kun and Uncle De arrived with the children sponsored by the charity, it was already past 10 o'clock. Because there were many people, they chartered a bus to come. They also brought a lot of the children's daily necessities. Since they all lived far away and it was inconvenient for them to travel back and forth every day, they were all arranged to stay at the school. Wan Niang's son, Li An, also came with them.
After Uncle Kun finished registering the children, took their belongings to the dormitory, and then sent them back to their respective classes, he left the organization's phone number with the teachers before heading to the military family compound.
When they arrived at Ruanruan's house, Ruanruan was organizing school supplies for Xiaomingxuan. Because Xiaomingxuan had never formally attended school before, Lan Zhiyu and the others had taught him to recognize characters and do arithmetic at home. Xiaomingxuan was also smart and learned very well. According to his current progress, he could go directly to the second grade. However, he was still a bit young. After discussing it with him, Ruanruan decided to let him go to the first grade instead.
They lived close by, and after Xiaomingxuan decided to stay, Principal Fu directly assigned him to Class 1, Grade 1. Knowing his class meant he didn't have to go there too early; going too early and sitting idly in the classroom was uncomfortable.
Now, seeing that it was almost time, Ruan Ruan put his little schoolbag on Xiao Mingxuan's back, hung his little water bottle around his neck, and then let Wang Qun take him to school.
Ruan Ruan had just seen the two children out the door when she saw them coming over.
"Uncle Kun, Uncle De, when did you arrive?"
"I've been here for a while now. After settling the children in, I thought I'd come and see you. How are you? Did the kids bother you? Where's Huo Haocheng? Are you all alone?" As soon as he entered the house, seeing no one home and Ruan Ruan standing alone by the door with her big pregnant belly, Uncle Kun immediately asked three questions in a row.
Faced with Uncle Kun's question, Ruan Ruan calmly replied, "The child is fine. Huo Haocheng is on a mission, and my grandma and mother came to take care of me. It's getting late, so my grandma went to the field to pick vegetables, and my mother took my nephew to school. Those were the two who just left. I was just seeing the child off when I was standing outside."
The three of them talked as they entered the house. Ruan Ruan took the tea from the table and poured a cup for each of them.
"Please sit down first. We can get you some water ourselves. We came here today for two reasons: first, to bring the children to register, and second, to tell you about their situation." Uncle Kun took the water cup that Ruan Ruan handed him, let her sit down, took a sip, and then took out a notebook from his backpack and handed it to her.
Because there were so many things to do today, and so much stuff to pack, Uncle Kun carried a large backpack. After handing the notebook containing the children's information to Ruan Ruan, he started taking things out of the bag one by one: a bag of brown sugar, a bag of milk powder, a bag of steamed egg cakes, some cloth for the children, several sets of little clothes made with the help of Sister Zhang, several pairs of little shoes, several tiger-head hats, and little toy guns and little rabbits that Uncle Kun and Uncle De made themselves out of wood. They even smoothed out the wood and wrapped it in cotton cloth to prevent the children from getting hurt. There were also little animals that Wan Niang made for the children, all stuffed with cotton and looking very lifelike.
Ruan Ruan was still looking at the list, but she was stunned by Uncle Kun's actions. She simply put the notebook aside and watched Uncle Kun take out things seriously. She was very curious. His back looked only two-thirds the length of his arm. How could he hold so many things? Was he really Doraemon's treasure chest?
