Chapter Ninety-Eight

The house was finally clean, and everyone gathered in the living room.

The two girls and Jiang Wuzhi sat on a bench that could accommodate three people, while Zheng Lan and Yue Feng each leaned against one side of the wall.

Jiang Wuzhi clutched his stomach and wailed, "I'm starving!"

Everyone had been busy all morning with a lot of work to do, but there was no lunch available, and everyone was getting hungry.

Especially now that it's mealtime, the surrounding villagers have already started cooking, and the aroma of the food is so enticing that it makes your mouth water.

The aroma stirred Jiang Wu's restless desire, and his eyes lit up. "We can go to our fellow villagers' homes for a free meal!"

Jiang Wuzhi introduced Jiang Yixing, "Ta-da! We now have a chief translator!"

The production team cruelly shattered his illusions.

The director said in a serious tone, "Please take on your first task: cook a delicious lunch by yourselves."

"We have no bowls! We have no ingredients! We have no money!"

Jiang Wuzhi suddenly stood up and angrily rebuked.

Li Yuxin added from behind, "There's no firewood yet!"

She discovered this while cleaning the kitchen: there were no bowls or chopsticks, and no firewood, which is essential for starting a fire!

There was only a small lighter on the table.

But what's the use of that?!

The production team suppressed their laughter, their faces turning cold: "Please, guests, resolve this yourselves."

Yue Feng, a tall man of 190 cm, was so hungry that he huddled up in a ball. Jiang Wuzhi pointed at him and questioned the production team: "How can you be so heartless?"

The director remained unmoved and hard-hearted.

Zheng Lan pinched the bridge of her nose, resisting the urge to throw the rag in her hand on the ground.

That wicked directing team!

As the eldest of the five, Zheng Lan took the initiative to assume responsibility, saying, "I saw a small shop at the entrance of the village. Let's see if we can exchange five sets of bowls and chopsticks with them."

"What can we exchange this for? We have nothing," Jiang Wu said, sounding aggrieved.

"So we have to go into the mountains to find ingredients, partly to see if they are edible, and partly to trade them."

"You can also collect some dry branches to use as firewood."

Yue Feng added that he used to live in the countryside with his grandmother and had some understanding of earthen stoves.

Zheng Lan nodded, "That's right."

The remaining people had no objections, so the five of them headed into the mountains together.

The production team was satisfied to see the plot progressing as expected, and they smiled slyly.

Hehe, ingredients from the mountains aren't so easy to find.

Because the village is situated in a valley between two mountains, it is very close to the mountains.

They walked along the mountain path, encountering many withered branches and fallen leaves, each step leaving a large clump that crunched under their feet.

Li Yuxin collected quite a lot and held it in her arms as spare firewood.

She urged Yue Feng to help her gather the firewood, but Yue Feng whispered, "This firewood is too wet; it won't light easily."

Li Yuxin was skeptical, but she decided to pick them up and see if there was anything useful out of so many.

Yue Feng couldn't refuse her, so he hugged her tightly.

Jiang Yixing was carrying a fork as tall as a person on her back, which she found while cleaning the small room; it was hidden under the bed.

Now, Jiang Yixing naturally brings it with him when he goes out.

Jiang Wuzhi and Zheng Lan were both shocked that she had found such a large fork.

When Jiang Yixing was about to take it out, the two were a little confused, but Zheng Lan still offered to take it herself.

Jiang Yixing smiled and shook his head. "It's not heavy."

Zheng Lan walked ahead, and when she turned around, she saw Yue Feng and Li Yuxin carrying a pile of those dry branches. The branches were very small, only about the width of two fingers.

Behind him, Jiang Yixing carried an iron fork, with two long iron rods sticking out above his head like two antennas, looking quite comical.

Jiang Wu seemed to be strolling leisurely in his own backyard.

Zheng Lan rubbed his head, feeling a headache coming on. Why did his team seem so unreliable?

As you walk a little further in, you see more fungi growing on the ground, densely covering the dead trees and the ground.

Zheng Lan squatted down and began to distinguish which ones were edible and which ones were poisonous.

After looking at it for a long time, I still couldn't figure it out.

So, I'm calling on everyone to come and watch.

"Let's see if there are any mushrooms we recognize. Let's pick some to take home and eat."

This touched on a blind spot in their knowledge; they only recognized the shiitake mushrooms, oyster mushrooms, and king oyster mushrooms they usually ate.

While the others were still staring blankly at the mushrooms, Jiang Yixing had already picked out a bunch.

Is this enough?

Upon hearing this, everyone turned their heads and saw that Jiang Yixing was holding a bunch of things in his arms.

"You know him?"

Zheng Lan's words were filled with surprise; now they had their first ingredient!

"I know some of them, and I only chose those I know."

When Jiang Wuzhi jumped over, he knew he hadn't misjudged Jiang Yixing; he was indeed formidable.

He picked one up and asked, "What's this?"

"Termitomyces albuminosus".

"What about this?" Li Yuxin joined in the fun.

"Ganba mushroom".

Seeing that Jiang Yixing answered fluently, everyone felt a little more at ease, realizing that they did indeed know each other!

Under Jiang Yixing's guidance, the group discarded the poisonous mushrooms they had in their hands and filled a backpack full of the non-poisonous ones.

Jiang Wuzhi even showed it off to the cameramen following him, saying, "Look, we have food."

The cameraman was also baffled. Was Jiang Yixing really that knowledgeable? Did he not live here before?

While the others were picking mushrooms, Jiang Yixing followed his instincts and found a small stream nearby.

The water in the stream is crystal clear, and you can see fish swimming slowly in it.

Jiang Wuzhi, following behind Jiang Yixing, exclaimed upon seeing the fish, "There are fish here!"

Upon hearing this, the group of people who were busy bending over to pick mushrooms immediately stood up and gathered around. "What? There are fish?"

Doesn't that mean there's meat in it?

Looking at the fish in the river, and then at myself without any equipment, I wondered... how could I possibly catch any fish?

Li Yuxin voiced everyone's thoughts: "How are we supposed to catch fish like this?"

Zheng Lan was also stumped; he had never done this before.

Jiang Yixing said slowly, "Luckily, I brought a fork."

Jiang Wuzhi immediately looked at the iron fork on her back. Could it be...?

Jiang Yixing unbuckled the straps, held the stick with the fork pointing downwards, and gripped it about two-thirds of the way down.

"Seriously, you're going to use this..."

"Be careful, this is dangerous..."

Yue Feng and Zheng Lan both shouted out, but before they could finish speaking, Jiang Yixing's iron fork had already plunged into the water, splashing water droplets.

Jiang Yixing raised his hand again, and the tip of the black fork had already pierced a fish. The fish's tail swayed twice, and then it remained still.

Jiang Yixing tilted his head and smiled, a bright smile that contrasted sharply with the lifeless fish that had just perished under his command.

Yue Feng was deeply shocked. Having grown up in the countryside, he knew better than anyone that fish weren't so easily speared.

Zheng Lan was completely dumbfounded. This...this...

Li Yuxin and Jiang Wuzhi were the first to come to their senses and cheered around Jiang Yixing.
