Chapter Seventy-One

"By the way, do you know where Zhang Meng went?" Jiang Yixing couldn't find Zhang Meng's whereabouts, so he could only ask the people in the company.

The supervisor did know, and he looked surprised. "Him? Wasn't he supposed to be dealing with Qi Ying's matter? Could it be that he hasn't finished dealing with it yet?"

Who is Qi Ying?

"Oh, you might not know him. He was the first artist Zhang Meng brought along, but he's not very popular now."

Jiang Yixing frowned. "Zhang Meng hasn't answered my calls."

"Maybe you're busy with something?" The person from the publicity department waved, gesturing for Jiang Yixing to come closer. "However, Yixing, I advise you to be careful of Qi Ying. She's not someone to be trifled with."

He pointed to his head. "She's crazy."

Jiang Yixing handed the video over to the publicity department for handling and went home. Zhang Meng finally called back when he got to his doorstep.

"Yixing, I'm so sorry, I had something to do earlier. Where are you now? I'll come find you." Zhang Meng was panting, his voice filled with anxiety.

"I just got home."

"Okay, I'll be right there."

When Jiang Yixing opened the door, he saw a rather disheveled Zhang Meng. His clothes were soaked and now half-dry. Jiang Yixing frowned and said, "What happened? Come in quickly."

Zhang Meng rubbed his messy hair and waved his hand. "I saw the news online on the way here. What happened?"

Jiang Yixing tossed Zhang Meng a new towel, "Don't worry about that, it's all taken care of."

Jiang Yixing opened his laptop, and on the screen was the video he had provided. Zhang Meng watched it carefully, and a slight smile finally appeared on his tense face. "Not bad."

"I'm smart," Jiang Yixing smiled. "Alright, hurry up and wipe it off?"

Zhang Meng dried himself off. Although he couldn't change his clothes, he was much better off than when he arrived. Holding a cup of tea brewed by Jiang Yixing, Zhang Meng let out a long sigh.

"Tell me, what happened?"

After Zhang Mengyi explained, Jiang Yixing realized that the gossip from the propaganda department that morning was absolutely true; Qi Ying was indeed a madwoman.

This story begins on the day Jiang Yixing set off for the event.

Qi Ying participated in five consecutive episodes of the show with good results, but suddenly announced on the day of filming that she wouldn't be coming. The production team couldn't possibly find a replacement on the spot, so they kept calling Qi Ying, but she couldn't get through; it seemed she had blocked the producer's phone and WeChat.

The program producers could only contact Zhang Meng, who was taking Jiang Yixing to the airport that day. Upon hearing the news, he couldn't help but worry that something might have happened to Qi Ying. Zhang Meng rushed back to the company, but couldn't find her there. He went to Qi Ying's apartment, but she wasn't there either.

Zhang Meng was so anxious he almost called the police, but when he went home to get his documents, he found Qi Ying waiting at his doorstep.

Zhang Meng was both angry and anxious. The deadline given by the program organizers had already passed, and the organizers were furious, declaring that they would never use Qi Ying again.

"Qi Ying! What are you doing here!" Zhang Meng pulled Qi Ying up; she wasn't injured anywhere on her body.

“Zhang Meng, you’ve finally come to see me,” Qi Ying said, her face covered in makeup, looking exquisite and beautiful. “I thought you only had Jiang Yixing in your heart right now.”

Zhang Meng frowned. "What nonsense are you talking about? You are all my artists. Yi Xing is so much younger than you, it's normal for you to take care of her a little more."

"So it's because I'm getting old?"

Zhang Meng couldn't understand Qi Ying's thought process. He waved to Qi Ying and said, "Let me take you home first. Apologize to the production team tomorrow."

Qi Ying refused to leave, saying, "I'm not going."

She looked at Zhang Meng, her eyes filled with complex emotions, "Why did you give all the best resources to Jiang Yixing? I was the first artist you ever managed!"

"What resources?" Zhang Meng didn't react at first, but when he realized she was talking about Fobana, he said, "This is where Jiang Yixing was recommended by another director."

"Then why not take me with you? I've been in the entertainment industry for so many years, don't you think I need this opportunity more?"

Zhang Meng found Qi Ying unreasonable and raised his voice, "What are you talking about? Those are Jiang Yixing's resources, how could I possibly give them to you?"

He rubbed his head, feeling a headache coming on, and reached out to pull Qi Ying away. Qi Ying had always been a bit neurotic, and he was already used to it. He shouldn't get angry with her; he should calm down.

"Let's go first, okay? You're probably too tired."

Qi Ying's expression softened slightly. "I really need opportunities, you understand? I don't want to go on those low-class variety shows that just show off my humor anymore. I don't want to always play supporting roles. I don't want to be bossed around by others."

"I understand, I understand. Don't worry, things are already much better than before, aren't they?"

Zhang Meng picked up Qi Ying and drove her to her home. While driving, he comforted her, saying, "The entertainment industry requires time to mature. It takes ten years to hone your skills. Once you've honed your acting abilities, you'll naturally be able to get good scripts."

Qi Ying remained silent, turning her head to look out the window.

Suddenly she spoke up, "But didn't Jiang Yixing become famous right after her debut?"

"You can't compare them like that. One star is a combination of luck and skill."

"Why can't we compare? Don't I even have the right to compare with her?" Qi Ying screamed again for some reason, and even reached out to grab Zhang Meng's steering wheel.

Zhang Meng broke out in a cold sweat and angrily shouted, "Qi Ying, what are you doing!"

Qi Ying ignored Zhang Meng's words and actually moved the direction.

The car began to move erratically on the road, and Zhang Meng lost control of its direction, crashing into an oncoming vehicle turning left.
