Just then, a slender hand reached out, with a bank card between its fingers.
"Auntie, use mine first." The voice was very quiet, with the clarity unique to teenagers, but with an unquestionable calmness.
Mother Zhang looked up in astonishment and met Ouyang Guang's amber eyes.
The boy's face was expressionless, his eyes clear and determined, and he handed the credit card to the staff at the payment window: "The password is XXXXXX, please arrange for an inspection as soon as possible."
“Xiaoguang…how can this be possible…” Mother Zhang’s voice was choked with sobs and she wanted to refuse.
“Auntie, Yixing’s injury is the most important.” Ouyang Guang’s tone was gentle but persistent.
Mother Zhang looked at him with gratitude in her eyes. She was speechless for a moment and could only hold Ouyang Guang's arm tightly and nodded vigorously.
The wait outside the MRI room seemed like an eternity. Mother Zhang stared at the clock on the wall, her lips moving silently, as if she was counting every minute from Changsha to Seoul.
Ouyangguang quietly went to the vending machine to buy hot cocoa and stuffed it into her cold palms.
"Auntie, Yixing has always said that your fried pork with chili is the best in Hunan." He said softly, "When it's ready this time, let's go eat together, okay?"
Mother Zhang suddenly covered her face with her hands, tears seeping out from between her fingers.
"When he was 17, he said he wanted to come to Korea to be a trainee... If I had known it would be like this..."
She was interrupted by the sound of the examination room door opening. The doctor came out with the film in his hand, his expression more serious than before.
The results of the MRI were like a verdict. The doctor pointed at the blurry image and said solemnly: "The lumbar disc is herniated and compressing the nerve roots. The situation is quite serious. Conservative treatment may not be able to support high-intensity dance. I recommend surgery as soon as possible."
"Surgery?!" Zhang's mother's voice suddenly rose, filled with fear. "No! Doctor, surgery... how big are the risks? Will it affect his future? He is only so young!"
"Any surgery has risks," the doctor pushed his glasses and tried to maintain a professional tone, "but if we delay, the nerve compression will intensify, which may lead to more serious consequences and even affect his walking. His waist simply can't bear the current intensity of dancing."
"No! Absolutely not!" Mother Zhang stood up suddenly, tears welling up in her eyes, and her attitude was extremely fierce.
"We're not going to do it anymore! No surgery! Let's go home! Back to China! Rest! Take it slow!" She couldn't accept that her son would take the risk of ruining his future in a foreign country at the most critical moment of his life.
"Yixing! Listen to me, we won't dance anymore! Your health is the most important thing! Surgery is so risky, what if you get hurt? You're still so young! What's more, you have a blood coagulation disorder!"
She turned to the doctor, her tone excited!
"Doctor, we won't do surgery! We need conservative treatment! We need to rest! We need to go home and rest!"
The doctor hesitated for a moment and said, "You can start with conservative treatment, but you must stay in bed for more than three weeks. Even then, there is no guarantee..."
"Mom! I want to have surgery!" Zhang Yixing raised his head, his voice hoarse but extremely firm, with a desperate stubbornness in his eyes.
"Mom, please go back. I will stand up again! I still have to support you. I have responsibilities for you and I have things I want to accomplish. Please let me persevere for a while. I must stand up again here."
"Let's go back. We won't go out anymore. I can support you. Really, please don't break your waist. I really beg you."
