"Really?"
Su Jin held her phone close to her lips, her mouth slightly open, "Are you really choosing me?"
There was a slight static on the other end of the phone. "Yes, I'm scheduled to join the crew next week."
Su Jin thanked them several times.
She was still a little dazed after hanging up the phone; she had actually been selected.
She picked up the bewildered little bread and smeared its drool all over its face. "Hehehe, little puppy, do you like Mommy? Isn't Mommy amazing?"
The bread was kissed so hard it cried out.
"What are you doing……"
Lin Shi saw this messy scene as soon as she entered the room.
Su Jin put down the pitiful puppy, a smile playing on her lips. "Ahem, I'm starting filming next week."
"Really?" Lin Shi raised an eyebrow in surprise. "What's this? Your screen debut?"
Her eyes inadvertently glanced at the puppy on the ground. "Wow, why is there a truck parked at your house?"
Su Jin quickly covered the puppy's ears, "Don't say that to the child, it's still small."
"Small?"
Lin Shi looked the bread up and down, "You'd have to charge it the price of a super fat dog to take it for a bath, right?"
"...Are you going to curse me again?"
Su Jin tapped on her phone, "Do you still remember that brother next to Gu Xingze?"
Lin Shi thought for a moment, "That show-off?"
"Yes, do you know what he did?"
Su Jin couldn't help but laugh at the thought of what she was going to say later.
"He...he took a toy gun and went to steal the bride."
"What?!"
Lin Shi couldn't believe her eyes. "I've spent my whole life working on abstract concepts, but I still can't compete with this kind of naturally gifted player..."
Su Jin clicked her tongue in amazement, "What were you thinking? I wouldn't dare do that even if I died tomorrow."
When it was time to eat, the two kitchen novices naturally ordered takeout. Just as they finished ordering, there was a knock on the door.
"I'll go open the door."
Lin Shi excitedly went to open the door.
"Xiao Jin, it's me."
Xie Yunhuai's warm smile froze. "Why is it you? Where's Xiaojin?"
Lin Shi called out into the house, "Xiao Jin~"
Su Jin got goosebumps all over.
Before Su Jin could even ask Xie Yunhuai what he wanted to do after inviting him into the house, there was another knock on the door.
"A Jin."
"..."
After letting them both into the house, Su Jin asked helplessly, "So? What do you two want?"
The two men mentioned the food they had brought, speaking in unison.
"I'll cook for you."
Su Jin and Lin Shi exchanged a glance.
"You brat, you ate so well without even telling me," Lin Shi said irritably in her ear.
Xie Yunhuai raised his eyes and glanced at Chen Yanxiu, who had been keeping his head down.
His usually gentle tone turned unfriendly as he demanded, "Why did you come?"
Shen Yanxiu didn't dare to look him in the eye. He looked like a thief caught red-handed by the homeowner. "Hello, I... I'm her colleague."
Xie Yunhuai nodded. "Oh, a colleague? Why would a colleague cook for her?"
"I."
Shen Yanxiu clutched the hem of his clothes, feeling lost and unsure of what to do. His fingers trembled slightly. Suddenly, he bowed to them and said, "I'm sorry, I have to go now."
Su Jin tried to persuade her to stay, saying, "Wait, stay and have a meal."
"No, I shouldn't have come."
Shen Yanxiu avoided her touch, left a bag of things behind, and left.
Su Jin opened the bag, which contained colorful candy wrappers. Judging from the creases in the bag, it was probably handmade.
There was also a sticky note on the side: Don't eat too much, just eat one if you feel like smoking.
A smiley face was drawn next to it, and you can tell it's not very skillful because there are many scribbles and corrections on the smiley face.
Su Jin held the paper, feeling uneasy.
She could almost see Shen Yanxiu carefully writing down his instructions to her with a pen in hand.
She said to Xie Yunhuai, "Brother, please don't come to cook next time."
Immersed in joy, Xie Yunhuai didn't react, "Huh?"
"You don't need to come again. I can order takeout when I'm hungry."
"But those are unhealthy."
Su Jin turned away from him and said, "Everyone else can order takeout, so why can't I?"
Xie Yunhuai didn't understand. Everything was fine just now, so why the sudden change?
Did I do something wrong?
...
Gu Xingze opened his eyes, wearing an oxygen mask, and lay on the cold hospital bed, feeling an unprecedented loneliness.
He even wondered why he wasn't dead.
If I were to die on the operating table like this, I wonder if Su Jin would feel guilty for the rest of her life after she found out?
Will I regret not being nicer to him?
Thinking this, he drifted off to sleep again.
Unfortunately, she wasn't in my dreams either.
That's really heartless.
He woke up again, and the doctor was standing by his bedside checking his various indicators.
"Hmm, so far it seems to be going well. Where are your family members? They haven't been seen at all since the surgery was over."
The doctor left, puzzled, to contact his family.
The beeping of the instruments filled Gu Xingze's ears. His upper body was under anesthesia and he couldn't feel any pain. He gently moved his fingers.
Only now can I feel that I am still alive.
It's better to be alive; at least I can still see her.
I just heard the doctor say something about 'family,' but where does he have a family anymore?
The only person he could call family is now a stranger because of his unreasonable behavior.
Thinking of this, Gu Xingze's eyes dimmed, wondering if she had received that 'inheritance'.
If only she could come and see me...
...
At the same time, Su Jin saw her familiar assistant, Li, with a speechless expression.
"What's wrong now?"
