Lin Shi and her group returned, holding up their "spoils of war" for the day.
"Here, that's all we found."
Su Jin rummaged through her backpack and found a bag of rice, a piece of beef, three preserved eggs, a few broccoli florets, and tomatoes.
Ji Yuanzhou snatched the backpack away. "What are you looking at? This is what we found. What's it to you?"
[I can't stand it anymore, I want to find someone in the same city to beat him up.]
Let's crowdfund! I'll go first.
He might seem tough when he talks, but that only applies to his fists.
Su Jin rolled her eyes. "We did work, and nobody's just eating and drinking for free."
Ji Yuanzhou looked at her with disdain, "We went up the mountain, which was dangerous and tiring. You were just at the bottom of the mountain, which was so easy for you, unlike us."
Lin Shi joined the fray, "Why are you arguing about which of these is easier? Isn't this like arguing about whether going to school or going to work is easier? Both of them are just rotten dung!"
[Hilarious! The age-old mystery has been solved!]
Going to school or working is worse than hanging yourself.
As they led the ingredients into the house, the director stopped them, saying, "We're a wilderness survival show, everyone."
Su Jin shrugged. "So?"
The director patiently explained, "You are not allowed to enter the room. As long as safety is guaranteed, everything will remain the same as before."
"That means everyone needs to make their own fire, and they will sleep in tents."
"ah?"
Su Jin's shoulders slumped, and she turned to walk towards the chicken coop.
I should have built a bigger chicken coop so I could live in it too.
As the sun slowly set on the horizon, they lit a fire and set up a pot.
Lin Shiqing counted the ingredients and suggested, "How about we make some congee with preserved egg and lean pork? I wonder if that'll be enough?"
Shen Yanxiu agreed, "Yes, and then stir-fry some mixed vegetables."
While they were discussing this, a group of people who couldn't cook had already collapsed on the ground.
Even Ye Shuwei, who is usually very clean, didn't care about the dirt. "I'm so hungry! Anything is fine. I haven't eaten a single meal today."
Su Jin lay a few dozen centimeters away from her, squinting her eyes and stretching.
"To those who once defeated me, thank you. Lying here is really comfortable."
Lin Shi couldn't stand it anymore and came over to remind her, "Don't sleep, or you won't be able to sleep at night, and your sleep schedule will become irregular again."
Su Jin didn't like hearing this. She lay on the ground and looked at Lin Shi, giving her a logical analysis, "I stayed up late yesterday, I stayed up late today, and I'll stay up late tomorrow. Isn't that a regular schedule?"
My God, she's a genius!
[If you maintain a regular daily routine, and are lucky enough to die suddenly, you've hit the jackpot.]
A voice suddenly appeared behind Su Jin, "Don't sleep yet, eat something before you sleep, okay?"
Turning around suddenly, Su Jin saw Shen Yanxiu kneeling beside her, and she sat up with a swift motion.
She can let loose in front of Lin Shi, but she can't do the same in front of Shen Yanxiu.
"Okay, Teacher Shen."
Lin Shi witnessed all of this and felt ashamed to have such a best friend.
"Did you know that in an ant colony, there's a group of worker ants who just pretend to be busy to avoid being assigned tasks?"
"Are you being sarcastic?"
"If you can tell the difference, it means you're smarter than an ant."
Su Jin remained silent.
She slowly moved to the cooking area and said, "Teacher Shen, let me help you."
Shen Yanxiu was flattered and stammered, "No, it's alright, I'll do it."
"Huh? What's this?"
Su Jin noticed something unusual about Shen Yanxiu's palm. She pulled it over and saw that it looked like a scratch.
"How did you do that?"
Shen Yanxiu's hand was held by her, his body temperature rose, and his heart pounded, as if she were holding his heart, not his hand.
"It might have been an accident while climbing the tree..."
"We need to deal with that; we can't just ignore it."
Shen Yanxiu could feel her hand gripping his, her fingers accidentally brushing against the inside of his palm, causing a tingling sensation.
Her hands were neither soft nor delicate; calluses of various sizes could be felt on the inside of her palms.
Shen Yanxiu felt an indescribable sadness.
I shook my head slightly. "It's okay. I'll take care of it after I've cooked for you."
"Oh dear! What happened?"
Luo Feifei approached without her noticing, her brows furrowed with worry. "Don't cook anymore, let us do it. Go and treat your wound."
Su Jin hesitated, as if she wanted to say something but then stopped herself.
Luo Feifei saw through her and quickly shut her up, "What? Teacher Shen has cooked for us so many times, you're not trying to shirk your responsibility, are you?"
Su Jin shook her head. "I just want to say, as long as you dare to eat it."
"What?"
Luo Feifei looked at her with a puzzled expression, but she quickly understood the meaning behind Su Jin's words.
Everyone stared at the unidentified object on the plate, hesitant to make a move.
Ye Shuwei picked up a lump of something that looked like poop and asked very politely, "Is this a tomato?"
Su Jin nodded, then picked up a piece of food with her chopsticks and stuffed it into her mouth amidst the shocked gazes of the others.
She was still confused. "Why are you all looking at me? Don't be shy, eat up!"
"We're not just being polite..." Ye Shuwei said weakly.
She was probably afraid that one day, Su Jin would get so hungry that she would chew herself up and eat herself.
Lin Shi watched in astonishment as she ate the unidentified object bite by bite, her soul reeling. "Why is it that you can eat your own food without any problems?"
Su Jin thought about it seriously.
"Could it be because they've developed antibodies?"
[Holy crap, spread this around! Su Jin's cooking is practically a zombie virus; it's so good it can make you develop antibodies.]
[So her earlier comment, "If you dare to eat it, then it's fine," was a warning.]
Be careful if you're friends with her. If she can stomach this kind of thing, she'll eat you up one day.
"What are you talking about?" Shen Yanxiu asked casually as he returned after treating his scrapes.
Luo Feifei swallowed hard, completely at a loss for words to explain to him. After all, it was she who had suggested that Su Jin cook.
No one answered his question. Shen Yanxiu sat down to eat, but the dish was so conspicuous that it was impossible not to notice it.
"What is this?" Shen Yanxiu frowned. He suspected it was mashed preserved egg but not that it was a tomato.
Su Jin claimed it, "I made it! Would Teacher Shen like to try some?"
Shen Yanxiu's furrowed brows relaxed. "Okay."
He picked up a piece of food with his chopsticks and was about to put it in his mouth.
"No!" Meng Guangjun called out urgently.
But it was too late; Shen Yanxiu had already swallowed it.
Su Jin tilted her head and asked, "How was it?"
He smiled and said, "It's delicious! You've improved."
