"She's asleep."
Su Jin left those words behind, shrank into the blankets, and lay down with her back to him.
Gu Xingze carefully tucked the blanket around her, "Goodnight, wife."
He lowered his head and leaned close to a small patch of Su Jin's soft cheek, a hint of expectation in his eyes, "I washed my mouth, it's not dirty, can I kiss you?"
Su Jin, her feelings unclear, pulled down the blanket to expose her face and said, "Let's kiss."
A kiss landed, and the lights went out.
Completely immersed in darkness, Su Jin finally felt the indescribable emotions she had just experienced.
Lonely.
My mind is completely empty.
She tried calling out, "007? Are you really gone?"
There was naturally no response.
She breathed heavily, agitated. "007, you've been with me for so long, you can't leave..."
Gu Xingze got up and patted Su Jin, "What's wrong, wife? Are you feeling unwell?"
Su Jin slapped his hand away. "No."
Gu Xingze spoke softly, as if coaxing a child, "Then why aren't you asleep?"
How did you know I wasn't asleep?
"You don't usually breathe like this when you're asleep."
Gu Xingze's voice held a hint of pride, "Wife, you can fool others, but you can't fool your husband. I know better than you what you look like when you're asleep."
Su Jin sighed heavily, "Stop researching this, go to sleep."
"good."
Perhaps she was preoccupied with something, or perhaps she had been caught in the rain for too long yesterday.
In short, Su Jin started to have a fever in the middle of the night.
It was Gu Xingze, who would occasionally get up to observe her, who discovered it.
"Wife? Wife, wake up."
Seeing Su Jin delirious with fever, Gu Xingze felt heartbroken and quickly pulled her into his arms to gently stroke her.
"don't want……"
Su Jin gripped Gu Xingze's collar tightly and murmured softly.
"Huh? What?"
He leaned his ear close to Su Jin's, "What is my wife saying?"
Su Jin had fine tears in the corners of her eyes, and she sobbed uncontrollably, "Don't leave me alone... Why did you do this? What should I do..."
When Gu Xingze heard her cry, his heart ached.
"I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry. I shouldn't have left you. I should have arrived sooner. Jinjin, don't cry."
Su Jin seemed to be having a nightmare. Scenes kept changing before her eyes. One moment she was kneeling in the snow covered in blood, and the next she was holding a knife and stabbing someone in the throat.
The sound of flesh being cut open seemed to be right next to her ears, and the terrifying sensation made it feel like she had actually killed someone.
Then came the voice of 007.
It told itself to live, but didn't tell itself how to live, or what to do next... Should it continue to 'conquer' Shen Yanxiu?
And will she die like she has countless times before?
Gu Xingze was still trying to comfort her, saying, "Wife, drink some water to help the medicine go down, and you won't feel so bad after taking it."
He fed her a few sips of water, and Su Jin leaned against him, muttering softly, "Chen Yanxiu..."
Upon hearing those three words, Gu Xingze was completely taken aback. "Wife, who are you calling? No, you've called the wrong person. Your husband's name isn't Shen Yanxiu, it's Gu Xingze."
No matter how much he tried to deceive himself, his wife had indeed called out to another man in his arms.
He looked at Su Jin's sleeping face, but in the end, he couldn't bear to wake her.
He gently placed Su Jin on the bed and sat alone until dawn.
So when Su Jin woke up, she saw Gu Xingze staring at her with dark circles under his eyes.
"What the hell are you doing? Trying to murder me?"
Gu Xingze chuckled self-deprecatingly, "If I really wanted to murder you, I shouldn't have bothered with you last night."
Last night?
Su Jin rubbed her aching temples. "Thank you."
Seeing that she was completely unaware, leaving him to struggle all night, Gu Xingze felt a desire to tease her.
Do you know what you said last night?
Su Jin tensed up as expected. She hadn't lost her memory; she knew what she was thinking last night. Could she have accidentally let something slip?
Seeing her guilty look, Gu Xingze felt a pang of bitterness in his heart. Shen Yanxiu had indeed managed to seduce his wife when he wasn't looking.
Shameless old man.
He made his wife risk everything to bring him out of the mountains.
"Honey... could you please not keep this from me? At least, at least let me know, okay?"
Su Jin thought to herself, "If I tell you, you'll probably think I'm crazy and then send me to a mental hospital."
She didn't speak. Gu Xingze looked up at Su Jin, his eyes filled with pleading and conflict, "How far have you two progressed? Have you worn it?"
"What?!"
Su Jin turned to meet his complicated gaze. "What are you talking about? Who am I with? What am I wearing?"
Gu Xingze made a great effort before saying, "Last night... you were calling for Shen Yanxiu."
Admitting this made him feel particularly bad; she wasn't even calling for him when she was at her most vulnerable.
Su Jin breathed a sigh of relief and regained her composure, saying, "You misheard me, there's nothing between me and him."
"Really?"
"Why would I need to lie to you?" Su Jin said, then remembered they were husband and wife. "Okay, actually there is..."
Their conversation stalled.
Gu Xingze gave himself a way out, saying, "If you're willing to explain, I believe you."
Seeing him secretly wiping away tears, Su Jin bluntly said, "You don't seem to believe it."
She ended the chaotic conversation by saying, "Okay, where's your assistant? Could you ask him to buy me a phone and get me a SIM card?"
She didn't really care whether Gu Xingze believed her or not; that wasn't her top priority right now.
Gu Xingze called his assistant Li, gave him a serious explanation, and then went to the window to cry alone after hanging up.
Su Jin: "..."
Seeing him crying like that, Su Jin took his phone, dialed a number, and whispered, "Come quickly."
A short while later, Lin Shi pushed a wheelchair in and said with a forced smile, "Well... Your Highness, I'm here to take her out."
Gu Xingze turned his head, his eyes still slightly red, "Crown Prince? Me?"
Su Jin was so frustrated with holding back her laughter that she almost suffered internal injuries, so she quickly got into her wheelchair and fled the place.
She asked Lin Shi, "How come you still remember that name?"
"I can't forget him, the prince of Beijing's elite circle."
Lin Shi clung to the wheelchair handle. "Hey, why did you call me over here?"
There weren't many people in the hospital in the early morning. Su Jin turned her wheelchair to the end of the corridor.
She looked out the window through the sunlight, wondering, "What if I'm not myself anymore?"
Lin Shi was completely confused. "What do you mean? You're not yourself anymore?"
As if she had thought of something terrible, Lin Shi grabbed Su Jin's shoulders and shook her violently.
"Has someone taken over your body? I don't care who you are, get off my best friend! Don't be afraid, best friend, I'm here to save you!"
No! No!
Su Jin's eyes were filled with stars as she grabbed Lin Shi's wrist. "I am me, no one is taking over my body."
Lin Shi breathed a sigh of relief, "That's good, you scared me to death."
