Shen Yanxiu lowered his eyes. "Oh, it's for work."
Seeing that he was still sullen, Su Jin comforted him, "Look at you, you're crying, your eyes are all red. There's no need to cry over such a small thing. Anyway, it's just what people say online. You're still my boyfriend."
Shen Yanxiu seemed completely unmoved by the persuasion. "Yeah, I'm crying like this over such a small thing..."

I finished my meal feeling like I was sitting on pins and needles.

He didn't know how long he had been sitting there, and suddenly realized it was already midnight.
Bread lay drowsily at his feet.
Shen Yanxiu squatted down and rubbed its head. "Sorry, I didn't even notice you were still here."
Bread went back to the doghouse and turned off the light.
Shen Yanxiu tiptoed into Su Jin's bedroom.
I lay down beside her bed, watching her sleeping face through the moonlight.
As he watched, he felt like crying again.
He dared not test the waters, for doing so would deplete what little love she had left.
Shen Yanxiu sniffed, silently left her room, and closed the door.

The next morning.
Su Jin looked at Shen Yanxiu, seemingly wanting to say something but then stopping herself.
He spoke first, asking, "Is there anything you'd like to say?"
Su Jin struggled to find the right words, "You...you cried by my bedside last night? Did you?"
