Gu Xingze didn't sleep well that night, not knowing if it was because he kept thinking about Su Jin, or because his neck injury hurt whenever he moved.
It wasn't until a faint, deep blue light shone through the window that he realized he had insomnia.
He had a terrible headache, so he rubbed his temples as he went downstairs.
Standing in the empty house, his headache worsened.
I pressed a few buttons on the coffee machine, found a chair, sat down, and just quietly watched the liquid flow into the cup.
It was so quiet that I could only hear my own heartbeat.
Gu Xingze couldn't stand the silence and subconsciously took out his phone to hear Su Jin's voice, but as soon as he unlocked the screen, he remembered that she was still asleep at this hour.
I put the phone back in; it's better not to disturb her sleep.
He got up, intending to turn on the TV, just to hear some sound.
But when he stood up, everything went black and he almost collapsed.
He managed to stand by holding onto the platform next to him.
What's wrong with me?
...
Su Jin was fast asleep when she vaguely heard someone calling her.
"Teacher Su, Teacher Su..."
She was so sleepy she could barely keep her eyes open, and she mumbled incoherently in response to the voice, "Hmm, ah, what?"
The production team persisted, calling out to her, "Teacher Su, we've come to deliver your game reward from yesterday."
Su Jin opened her eyes a crack. "What reward?"
They seemed to have been waiting for these words, as they pulled a chicken out from behind them and said, "This is the reward!"
Then, Su Jin saw a pointy mouth opening and closing, with tiny black bean-like eyes staring at her.
She was startled when a chicken suddenly shoved her in the face early in the morning, causing her to roll around on the bed twice before falling off.
The chicken was still clucking, making the scene quite absurd.
There weren't many viewers at this point, but the screen was still filled with laughter.
This show is so mean, hahaha!
[Someone kindly gave a guest a chicken early in the morning; it seems intentional.]
If I saw a chicken appear on my bed first thing in the morning, I would have the same reaction; I would feel like I was still dreaming.
Su Jin stared helplessly at her messy hair as she got up, picked up the chicken coop, and knocked on Lin Shi's door.
She knocked for several minutes but no one answered, so she smacked her lips a few times and pushed the door open.
Then he plopped down on Lin Shi's bed with a smooth and fluid motion.
The person on the bed rolled over and said impatiently to her, "Hey, what time is it? Let me sleep a little longer."
"Cluck cluck cluck!"
Lin Shi clicked her tongue, "Why are you even imitating a rooster's crow? I'm impressed."
Su Jin calmly said, "It wasn't me making noise, a chicken got into my room."
"ah???"
Lin Shi got up with the same messy hair as her, and when her eyes caught the source of the sound, she saw a perfectly colored chicken looking at her innocently.
Am I still dreaming?
"Unfortunately, that's reality."
Then the two of them and the chicken just stared at each other, wide-eyed.
"Is this a reward from yesterday's game?" Lin Shi asked, her voice still full of questions.
"Now it seems that's true."
Lin Shi looked at her expressionless face and asked, "How can you be so calm?"
Su Jin put her arm around her shoulder and said, "You should think about everything this way: you're not going to die anyway. At worst, you'll just die. It's better if you die."
"Then you won't react to anything that happens."
I have understood the master.
Everything else is trivial except for life and death.
I always think this way when I make a mistake: it's not like I'm going to be executed, so what's there to be afraid of?
After the two washed up, Su Jin also wiped the chicken's face.
"That's really thoughtful."
Upon entering the kitchen, Lin Shi tentatively asked Su Jin, "Can you cook?"
"You want me to cook, don't you?" Su Jin saw through her intentions at a glance.
Su Jin remained unfazed. "I dare to make it, as long as you dare to eat it."
Lin Shi recalled the candied nuts dish that had failed to meet expectations in terms of color, aroma, and taste last time, and felt a chill run down her spine even in the middle of summer.
"No, I'll do it myself. I don't want to die here."
Lin Shi bent down and placed a few ears of corn in the steamer. "By the way, didn't you ever cook at home before? That can't be, your mother-in-law..."
Su Jin yawned long, bored.
"It tastes terrible. She gets diarrhea every time she eats my cooking. After that, she probably suspected that I added laxatives to it, so she stopped eating it."
At first, Gu's mother didn't believe it, but she forced her to cook a few meals, and each time she would be exhausted from diarrhea.
Su Jin once casually mentioned, "Sigh, I heard that some elderly people who can't hold their poop get slapped by caregivers. I wonder if it's true."
When Gu's mother heard this, her heart skipped a beat. She no longer dared to taste the food she cooked herself, and secretly did a few sets of Kegel exercises.
Lin Shi didn't know what she was imagining, but she laughed so hard she couldn't straighten up.
"You guys are up so early."
The two turned their heads at the same time, and Shen Yanxiu leaned against the door frame and greeted them.
Good morning.
Shen Yanxiu naturally put on an apron and said softly, "I'll do it."
Lin Shi was flattered. "Oh? Is that alright? It's not really appropriate, since you were the one who made it last time."
Shen Yanxiu smiled at her, "It's really okay, go and sit down."
He went to the production team and bought a pumpkin and millet, then asked the two girls, "Is millet and pumpkin porridge okay?"
"Can."
Feeling embarrassed, Su Jin walked over to him and asked, "How much did you spend on groceries? I'll transfer it to you."
Shen Yanxiu looked a little unhappy, his voice was stiff, "Don't make such a clear distinction."
That's what she said, but Su Jin didn't want to owe anyone a favor.
Seeing that she still wasn't leaving, he said, "Anyway, I'm going to eat too, so it's fine."
Su Jin thought about it and agreed, "Okay."
He took a piece of corn out of the steamer. "Okay, time to feed the chickens, hoohoo hoohoo."
?
A big question mark appeared above Shen Yanxiu's head. He stammered as he asked Lin Shi, "What...what did she just say?"
[Even Brother Chen was completely dumbfounded.]
[Wait, why did Su Jin suddenly imitate a rooster's crow twice? I'm laughing so hard I could die...]
What are you saying? I don't understand. Going to feed the chickens, hoohoo hoohoo.
[Cluck cluck cluck cluck, come feed me, I'm a chicken, cluck cluck cluck cluck.]
Lin Shi thoughtfully repeated, "She said she went to feed the chickens, the chicks are clucking."
The air fell into a suffocating silence.
The statue of Shen Yanxiu was frozen in place, completely still.
He began to wonder if he was still half asleep.
Lin Shi nudged him, "What's wrong with you?"
Shen Yanxiu swallowed hard. "Where did this chicken come from?"
"The production team stuffed it into her room early in the morning, saying it was a reward, but I suspect it was to torture her."
Shen Yanxiu looked out the window and saw Su Jin squatting at the door, feeding the chickens with corn.
He lowered his long eyelashes, annoyed that he had taken on the cooking task.
She meant to show off her cooking skills, but instead she turned around and fed the chickens...
