"Who's trying to take advantage of you! What are you thinking!"
Song Xiwei looked disgusted. "Stay away from me!"
Wu Lai chuckled, "It was clearly you who came over and stared at me, okay? Anyone who didn't know better would think you'd changed your mind and started liking me instead of the Demon Lord."
When Song Xiwei heard Wu Lai mention the Demon Lord, she felt a surge of urgency and wanted to find the God of Cookery to confirm whether it was his masterpiece.
"I don't have time to argue with you, I need to confirm something."
After meeting the master chef, Song Xiwei directly told him her requirements.
The God of Cookery did not agree immediately, but looked at Wu Lai, who nodded and said, "Mm."
"Let's go, you go rest outside first. The chef will bring it over when it's ready," Wu Lai said to Song Xiwei.
Song Xiwei was speechless. "No, I have to keep an eye on it myself! What if someone tampers with it?"
"You are indeed cautious," Wu Lai suddenly sighed.
"I just need to figure out a few things," Song Xiwei said thoughtfully.
Wu Lai looked at Song Xiwei intently a few times without saying a word.
After a moment, the master chef brought over several of the dishes.
"Give it to me." Wu Lai took it.
After Song Xiwei and Wulai sat down, Wulai handed her a pair of chopsticks. "Want to try some?"
Song Xiwei took the chopsticks and silently began to taste the food.
For some reason, Song Xiwei's expression became increasingly strange.
Wu Lai held the chopsticks, but remained silent.
"That's great. From now on, Heavenly Emperor, you can come and eat with me every day the God of Cookery's cooking." After finishing a plate of dishes, Song Xiwei suddenly spoke up.
Wu Lai didn't answer her, seemingly lost in thought.
"Is that alright, Heavenly Emperor?" Song Xiwei added.
Wu Lai seemed unaware that Song Xiwei had suddenly changed her address from calling him Wu Lai to calling him Heavenly Emperor.
"Okay," he replied.
Song Xiwei's lips curled up slightly.
"How about you accompany me for a walk around later?" Song Xiwei suggested again.
Wu Lai looked somewhat uneasy. "I..."
"If you're busy, then forget it," Song Xiwei said considerately. "I can go to the Lingxiao Palace to keep you company, I promise I won't bother you."
"No, no rush, let me walk with you," Wu Lai suddenly explained.
"Then let's take a walk by the Jade Pool," Song Xi said, reaching out to take Wu Lai's hand.
Wu Lai instinctively tried to dodge, but Song Xiwei noticed first. "What are you doing? We are now the Heavenly Emperor and Empress, a divine couple, a model of love in everyone's eyes. What's wrong with holding hands? Why are you acting like you've lost a piece of your flesh?"
Before Wu Lai could even hesitate, Song Xiwei had already firmly grasped his hand.
Wu Lai's face was somewhat pale, and he seemed to be angry.
His gaze lingered intentionally or unintentionally on the spot where the two were clasped together, as if he was feeling awkward about something, or perhaps harboring some strange, suppressed emotions.
Song Xiwei pretended not to notice Wu Lai's unusual behavior and continued to hold his hand as they walked.
Occasionally, she would deliberately tickle his palm a few times, and Wu Lai's face would suddenly turn ashen. "Stop it."
"What did I do wrong? I just feel safe holding your hand. Unlike that other person I liked before," Song Xiwei said with a half-smile.
"Let go!" Wu Lai suddenly snapped, seemingly angered by something Song Xiwei had said.
"Are you angry? I was clearly praising how safe I felt holding your hand, I didn't say anything bad about you." Song Xiwei pretended to be confused.
"It's not funny," Wu Lai said in a deep voice, his tone revealing a hint of undisguised grievance.
Song Xi was momentarily dazed and almost lost control, giving herself away.
“I wasn’t joking. Anyway, the person I like doesn’t like me. No matter how good he is, it has nothing to do with me. I might as well cherish the person in front of me. You’ve been good to me too. We’re already married. Why don’t we make this fake relationship real?” Song Xiwei had barely finished speaking when Wu Lai glared at her through gritted teeth and roared, “You dare!”
