With the collaboration officially finalized, Xu Yanshu started working from 3 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day. Seeing that he and Uncle He were not enough to handle the workload, they decided to hire a few more employees from outside.
But to everyone's surprise, the posting of the notice received little response. A few people called occasionally, but the deal ultimately failed due to salary issues.
“Recruiting isn’t urgent for now; let’s focus on the project first,” Xu Yanshu said with a helpless wave of his hand, looking thoughtful. “This is our first project.”
"We don't need to worry too much about profits for now. The most important thing is to maintain a good reputation. Only with a good reputation can our company go far."
That's true.
He Wen nodded as if he agreed, and then stopped worrying about the recruitment and went back to his own work.
Thump thump thump—
Hearing the knock, Xu Yanshu subconsciously looked up and saw Qin Yao standing at the door.
He quickly stood up and rushed forward, saying, "Auntie, you've come!"
"Yeah, I just happened to be passing by, so I thought I'd take a look!"
Qin Yao spoke slowly and deliberately, glancing around the studio. It looked quite decent. She casually asked,
"Where are the other employees? Are they out there doing business?"
Xu Yanshu was a little embarrassed when asked, "Currently, there are only He Wen and I in the studio."
Just the two of them?
Qin Yao turned around and looked at Xu Yanshu in surprise, confirming that he was not joking. He frowned almost imperceptibly.
The two of them started a business, thinking they were just playing house?!
She found it laughable but couldn't help blaming Ouyang Ming. He had always said that Xu Yanshu was a reliable person, but she never expected him to be so immature in his actions.
Seeing the subtle signs, Xu Yanshu roughly guessed what Qin Yao was thinking at this moment, and he rubbed his hands together somewhat awkwardly.
When he came to his senses, he realized that Qin Yao had glanced at Uncle He twice.
Xu Yanshu realized that the other party might want to say something to her alone, so she immediately made up an excuse to send He Wen away.
"Auntie, please have a seat!" Xu Yanshu led her entourage to the rest area and made an inviting gesture before speaking.
Qin Yao nodded slightly and sat down. She didn't intend to beat around the bush and went straight to the point.
"You probably already know a little bit about my attitude: I will absolutely not agree to the two of you being together!"
"Auntie, what happened last time was..."
Qin Yao raised her hand to interrupt Xu Yanshu's explanation, "There's no need to bring up the past. Even if it was a misunderstanding, it won't affect my stance."
Xu Yanshu was somewhat frustrated by the other party's tough attitude and unconsciously clenched his hands at his sides.
“Mr. Xu, Shengyi is our only precious daughter. For the past twenty-odd years, my husband and I have always treated her like the apple of our eye.”
"Perhaps you have a bright future, but I would never gamble with my daughter's future happiness! Do you understand what I'm saying?"
Xu Yanshu's expression inevitably turned somewhat awkward, and it took him a long time to nod with difficulty after he finished speaking.
"And even if I'm willing to take the gamble, what about the others? The pampered daughter of the Ouyang family ended up choosing a man with no background and who's divorced. Do you know what the others will think of Shengyi behind her back?"
She initially wanted to respect her daughter's choice, but after weighing the options for a while, she felt that it was best to end the relationship promptly.
Qin Yao pondered silently in her heart, her expression frozen without giving herself away.
She knew her daughter might blame her for doing this, but compared to that, she couldn't bear to watch Shengyi's later years be ruined by gossip.
"As long as you're willing to let go, I'm willing to personally help you set up a truly large-scale company, or you can bring up any other conditions you have."
Xu Yanshu looked up in disbelief at Qin Yao's cold expression, and he felt as if he had been slapped hard across the face.
Yes, he is not worthy of Shengyi at all; his existence will only be a stain on her life.
"I understand what you mean. I will keep my distance from Shengyi from now on!"
"In that case, I hope Mr. Xu will keep his word! I don't want a third person to know about today's conversation, do you understand?" Qin Yao said again, having subtly observed the other party's reaction.
Watching the other person's resolute departing figure, Xu Yanshu's expression gradually became numb, and his body began to tense up more and more.
The next second, he turned around and punched the wall, his eyes filled with resentment.
He thought that as long as he took action, even if there were setbacks along the way, he would eventually gain the other party's approval. He never expected that everything would be rejected so quickly.
"Yan Shu?!"
Upon hearing the sound, Xu Yanshu subconsciously turned his head, his face still showing anger, when he saw Xie Huanyu walking in alone from outside.
"What's wrong? What happened?" Xie Huanyu asked anxiously, rarely seeing Xu Yanshu so angry.
Instead of answering, Xu Yanshu asked, "How did you end up here?"
"I... I made plans with Xiaoxiao to go shopping in Chengdu, and we just happened to be passing by, so we came up to take a look!"
Xie Huanyu hesitated for a moment before beginning to explain, unconsciously avoiding the man's gaze.
Her real intention wasn't the wine; she simply wanted to see Xu Yanshu, even though she now knew she shouldn't bother him anymore.
