Chapter 219 A Twist of Fate

Sorry, I was stuck in traffic and I was late!

Worried that the young girl might misunderstand, Xu Yanshu promptly sent her a text message, and after completing the task, he couldn't help but sigh.

He never expected to run into Ouyang Ming and his wife so coincidentally... He thought he had made enough mental preparations, but when he actually faced such a scene, he was still a little overwhelmed.

Thinking of Xie Huanyu's persistent pestering earlier, Xu Yanshu unconsciously frowned, a hint of self-mockery appearing in his eyes. This was probably what they called a twist of fate.

He used to treat Xie Huanyu with all his might, hoping that she would give him a little response. But for five years of marriage, he was forced to watch her great love with someone else.

Now that she has completely let go of this relationship, she is full of thoughts of starting over...

The phone on the table suddenly rang, pulling Xu Yanshu from his thoughts. Seeing Shengyi's contact name, the gloom between his brows lessened somewhat. He took a deep breath before swiping to answer.

"Hey, Shengyi!"

“Brother Yan Shu, I just landed and turned on my phone to see the text message you sent me. I thought you had forgotten.”

"What a pity. If I had known it would be like this, I should have waited for you at the airport a little longer."

Listening to Shengyi chattering away on the other end, Xu Yanshu's mood suddenly brightened, and the corners of his lips unconsciously turned up. Just then, sunlight shone in from the window.

"It's okay, I'll fly abroad to see you once I've almost finished this project!"

Special circumstances call for special measures. He knew he didn't want to give up on his relationship with Shengyi, and he would go to her side at any cost as long as she needed him.

"You shouldn't have revealed something like this so early. You could have given me a surprise later... Never mind, the people from the branch office are here to pick me up. I'll contact you again when I'm done!"

This brief phone call lifted Xu Yanshu's spirits. He slowly exhaled a breath of stale air, then turned and sat down at his desk to begin processing the documents at hand.

When Ouyang Ming and his wife returned home, they unconsciously discussed their chance encounter.

"See? Your daughter is so bold as to openly invite someone to the airport!"

Ouyang Ming habitually defended his daughter, "Calm down, maybe Shengyi doesn't even know about this..."

"Can't you use your brain? If she didn't know, why did she keep refusing our offer to see him off at the airport, and why was she looking around anxiously before boarding?" Qin Yao glared at him angrily.

"In that case, let Shengyi stay at the branch office until the end of the year. I will continue to look for a suitable partner for her."

Xu Yanshu's persistent pestering was extremely annoying, but she never expected her daughter to be so disobedient on this issue, continuing to pester him even after she had expressed her stance repeatedly.

Isn't this taking too long?

Ouyang Ming hesitated, but seeing his wife's furious expression, he ultimately didn't dare to say anything more.

The only one to blame is Xu Yanshu. He saw that they had made their stance so clear, yet he still persisted in his unreasonable demands.

...

This was Xu Yanshu's first official visit to the Zhou family, and her feelings were somewhat complicated. Thinking back to her earlier outburst to settle scores with Zhou Zehao, she suddenly felt a little embarrassed.

"Dad, I'm sorry about what happened last time. I was too impulsive."

Zhou Shengyu waved his hand dismissively, "It's nothing, just a little incident, don't worry about it."

“If you really feel sorry, then I can punch you!” Zhou Zehao, who had been silent all along, suddenly spoke up, raising an eyebrow with interest before speaking.

They really are his biological children!

Zhou Zehao scoffed inwardly. If it were him, the old man would have given him a thorough dressing-down, but now he was just letting it slide.

But the kidnapping of Shengyi might not have been entirely unrelated to him!

A strange light flashed quickly in Xu Yanshu's deep eyes. He gave the speaker a meaningful look, and his aura suddenly turned cold and stern.

He believed in the principle of "I won't offend others unless they offend me," and he didn't want his parents to be caught in the middle between him and Zhou Zehao. However, if the other party kept trying to cause him trouble, he couldn't just swallow his anger for the sake of so-called brotherly affection.

"Xiao Hao! Can't you speak properly!" Zhou Zehao turned his head and glared coldly at the person next to him, scolding him in an annoyed tone.

Zhou Zehao shrugged nonchalantly, "Can't you tell I'm just joking with my older brother? Do you think I'd actually punch him?"

"you……"

"It's rare for Yan Shu to come home today, what are you two arguing about?" Shen Wei came out of the kitchen carrying a fruit platter and couldn't help but scold her.

The three men fell silent and stood up from their seats at the same time.

“I was just chatting with Xiaohao, we didn’t argue,” Zhou Shengyu explained good-naturedly, habitually giving the seat of honor to Shen Wei, while he sat on the soft couch next to her. “Why are you in the kitchen again? These things can be done by the staff.”

"It's not that dramatic! It's just cutting some fruit!"

Shen Wei waved her hand dismissively, then turned to Xu Yanshu and asked cautiously,

"Next week is my birthday, and we're planning to have a party to celebrate. If you're free, come over!"
