Chapter Seventy-Eight: The Marionette (Comments and Donations Requested)

"I apologize for my bad attitude this morning. I'm sorry. How about we have lunch together?"

For a moment, Xu Yanshu thought he was hallucinating. He looked up at Xie Huanyu in surprise. After their eyes met, Xie Huanyu turned her face away uncomfortably.

This person was clearly refusing to listen to reason and would rather suffer the consequences, so she naturally didn't want to back down... but her father had just called again to give her a stern lecture.

When she thought of her father saying that he had arranged for someone to secretly monitor her, Xie Huanyu felt a lump in her throat, and a hint of bitterness appeared in her eyes.

On the surface, he manages such a large company, but in reality, he lives under constant surveillance.

Before this, it seemed that her father could always quickly know her whereabouts, so this pattern may have started long ago, but she just didn't know it.

Xu Yanshu had been observing Xie Huanyu's expression without making a sound. He was a beat slow to notice what was wrong with her. Xie Huanyu's expression seemed somewhat numb, and her eyes were somewhat empty.

"If you don't want to, then I..."

Xu Yanshu nodded slightly, "Okay, no problem, let's make it at the restaurant downstairs!"

Xie Huanyu secretly breathed a sigh of relief, and without saying anything more, immediately turned around and walked out of the office.

Staring thoughtfully at the departing figure, Xu Yanshu couldn't help but wonder what Xie Junyang had done to frighten him like this.

Xie Junyang may be ruthless, but surely he wouldn't actually do anything to his own daughter?

The morning passed quickly, and Xu Yanshu and Xie Huanyu prepared to appear in the restaurant, sitting opposite each other.

"Do you know of any large-scale breeding farms in Kyoto?" Xu Yanshu asked tentatively.

Breeding farm?

Xie Huanyu was stunned for a moment, then shook her head after thinking about it carefully. She really had never heard of any breeding farm.

She looked at the person opposite her suspiciously. "Why are you asking this?"

“I’ve heard people talk about this topic, but I don’t remember there being a place like that in Kyoto.”

Xu Yanshu explained with ease that Xie Huanyu was clearly not in a good state of mind at the moment, so she did not mention any clues about the car accident, but there was a hint of doubt in the depths of her eyes.

He had someone look around Kyoto these past few days, and indeed, he hadn't found a place like this.

As for the possibility that her memory might be incomplete, Xie Huanyu is a native of Kyoto, so she should know that if there were any omissions.

"Xu Yanshu, are you now very eager to sever ties with the Xie family?"

Xu Yanshu was taken aback when Xie Huanyu asked such a question. Instead of answering directly, he simply pursed his lips.

He wasn't sure what the other person's intention was in asking this question, but no matter what, he couldn't easily confront Xie Huanyu.

It seems that's true!

Xie Huanyu instantly understood. Before, she didn't understand why Xu Yanshu had suddenly become so determined to divorce her, but now she vaguely understood.

Such ruthless control is unbearable for anyone, and in recent years, her father's expectations of Xu Yanshu have far exceeded her own, while Xu Yanshu also has to deal with her.

"If you still insist on divorcing me after this period of time has passed, then we will go through the formalities."

Feeling a sudden sense of relief, Xu Yanshu nodded lightly and said sincerely, "Thank you!"

He had no intention of dividing his property with Xie Huanyu, so a divorce by mutual agreement was the best option compared to going to court.

He actually thanked me for this?

Xie Huanyu frowned slightly. She smiled noncommittally, and thinking about the various entanglements between them over the past few months, she felt even more uneasy.

Lost in thought, the phone next to me suddenly rang.

【My dear Huai】

Upon seeing this note, Xie Huanyu's eyes flashed with a hint of struggle, but in the end, she made the difficult decision to hang up.

Yesterday, his father had already made his point clear. If he were to get involved with the Lu family again, he didn't know how he would make things difficult for Lu Huai.

Sensing the man's gaze falling on the screen in her hand, Xie Huanyu wanted to explain something.

It certainly wasn't because of his presence, Xu Yanshu secretly speculated. It seemed Xie Junyang had forcibly ordered Xie Huanyu to sever ties with the Lu family.

At the last moment, remembering that they had already agreed to go through the divorce proceedings, she swallowed back the words that were about to come out.

"The new energy project has been officially completed. Since you led the team to do it, the relevant performance bonuses will go to you and your team."

"I'll accompany you to the celebration banquet later!" Xie Huanyu said to herself, remembering the project at the last moment.

She only wanted to provoke Xu Yanshu; she didn't really want to take credit for someone else's hard work.

Hasn't it already been handed over...?

Xu Yanshu wanted to refuse, but considering the welfare of his subordinates, he swallowed his words at the last minute.

"Okay, I understand. I'll have someone prepare a celebration banquet."

...

That evening was the day we had arranged to have dinner at the Xie residence. Xu Yanshu wondered if it was just his imagination, but once they arrived, Xie Huanyu seemed noticeably distracted.

Cough cough—

It wasn't until two heavy coughs landed that Xie Huanyu suddenly came to her senses. She looked up at the person sitting at the head of the table, puzzled.

"After she's discharged from the hospital, you two should treat Lu Huai to a meal together, and also give her a little something for me!" Xie Junyang said firmly.
