Chapter Sixty-Five: Chess Pieces in Hand

"Xie Huanyu, aren't you also my accomplice in this matter?"

accomplice?

Xie Huanyu froze on the spot, staring in disbelief at the person standing in front of her.

"Ah Huai, what are you saying?"

Thinking that he might still need this woman in the future, Lu Huailin changed his words before speaking, "You know perfectly well that I like you, yet you still asked me to contact Xu Yanshu's family."

"Didn't you think about the possibility of your weaknesses being discovered?"

This Xie Huanyu is really different from before. Not only does she not share my hatred, but she also repeatedly stands on Xu Yanshu's side to criticize me.

Xie Huanyu opened her mouth subconsciously, her brain momentarily blank. But wasn't it he who took the initiative to suggest going to the nursing home with her to see her grandmother?

"I already felt guilty about this, and I came here today to apologize to Xu Yanshu in person. I never expected that he would try to strangle me!"

"He was the one who was unreasonable and wouldn't let it go, yet you're still questioning me here. Xie Huanyu, just consider it that I misjudged you!" Lu Huai dusted himself off and walked straight past the woman.

So was this really her fault?

Standing there in a daze, Xie Huanyu suddenly felt lost. After arguing with Xu Yanshu yesterday, she already felt a bit guilty, and now even A-Huai was starting to criticize her...

Remembering how much the old man had doted on her, her feelings became increasingly complicated, and the corners of her delicate eyes began to turn slightly red.

Xu Yanshu, who was upstairs, saw the whole scene through the floor-to-ceiling window. He curled his lips in a meaningful smile, not expecting the two of them to start fighting like dogs so quickly.

Her hands remained clenched into fists at her sides, and as she thought of what Lu Huai had just said, Xu Yanshu gritted her teeth.

He only managed to escape by sheer luck, yet he dares to come here and provoke me like this!

He should fight fire with fire. Perhaps he can't only use the law to teach Lu Huai a lesson. He should deal with villains in the same way as villains. Only in this way can he be considered to fight back effectively.

Thump thump thump—

Xu Yanshu only snapped out of his reverie when there was a knock on the office door. He turned around, sat back down at his desk, cleared his throat, and responded to the person outside.

"Please come in!"

...

In the afternoon, Xie Huanyu was summoned to the Xie residence by a phone call.

"Are you saying that you protected Lu Huai so he could get out?"

Xie Huanyu pursed her lips nervously, feeling guilty and not daring to answer.

"Outrageous!" Xie Junyang slammed his fist on the table and stood up, his face flushed with anger. He pointed repeatedly at the person in front of him. "Do you know what you're doing? What will Xu Yanshu think of you? How are you going to live together from now on?"

Although he never intervened, he had been secretly keeping an eye on the matter.

I had previously thought that a decision wouldn't be made anytime soon, but I didn't expect Lu Huai to come out so quickly.

He was just guessing, but he didn't expect it to actually be her who stepped in!

Although he felt it wasn't their place to lower themselves to accommodate Xu Yanshu, they couldn't do something so humiliating.

Anyway, he's determined to divorce me...

Xie Huanyu didn't dare to say those words out loud, nor did she dare to mention the real reason. If her father knew that she did this because Uncle Lu was sick, he would definitely scold her severely.

He glared at his daughter again, annoyed by her lack of ambition, before turning back to sit on the sofa, his serious expression lingering.

Now Xu Yanshu is probably even more determined to divorce Huanyu. Whether she agrees or not is one thing, but they also need to make the necessary plans.

"How much real power does Xu Yanshu have in the company now?"

"His sole responsibility is the new energy project,"

"I make all the decisions on other matters!" Seeing her father's deeply hesitant expression, Xie Huanyu immediately understood the purpose of the question and answered after careful consideration.

That's alright!

Xie Junyang finally breathed a sigh of relief, no longer worried about Xie Junyang doing anything underhanded at the company.

"He might ask you for a divorce next, and no matter what, you absolutely cannot agree to it!"

Xie Huanyu nodded in agreement, but then vaguely sensed something was amiss, and said with some disagreement,

“If he’s really determined, we can’t keep begging him, can we? It’s not like I can’t find someone better than him.”

"If you divorce and remarry, you'll be a second-marriage woman. You know Xu Yanshu's capabilities better than I do. Are you sure you can find someone better?"

"Not to mention that guy surnamed Lu, he's not even as good as one of Xu Yanshu's toes!"

Xie Huanyu was speechless, her face turning pale and then flushed.

Although these words were unpleasant to hear, she knew they were true. Looking at the entire capital, there were many rich second-generation heirs whose backgrounds could easily surpass Xu Yanshu's, but in terms of ability, Xu Yanshu was undoubtedly the best.

“I spent so much money sponsoring his university education so that he would continue to do things for me. There’s no way I could let him go so easily!”

Wasn't it because of Uncle Xu's life-saving grace?

Xie Huanyu unconsciously looked up at the other person, and seeing her father's calculating expression, she felt a chill in her heart.

She suddenly realized that her father had never asked about her thoughts and feelings from beginning to end; he had only been concerned with gains and losses.

At the time, he claimed that he married Xu Yanshu because of Uncle Xu's life-saving grace, but now it seems that it was better to tie him to the Xie family.

If that were really the case, then wouldn't she have been caught in her father's scheme all along? She was momentarily unable to process this truth.

Noticing his daughter's unusual expression, Xie Junyang waved his hand dismissively, his tone full of admonition.

"No one can enjoy without giving. Everything in this house is at your disposal, so you should do your best to consider and plan for the Xie family."

He hadn't mentioned it before because he thought his daughter should be able to understand this simple principle, but she had repeatedly acted recklessly and according to her own whims, so he felt it necessary to teach her a lesson.

These words suddenly made Xie Huanyu feel a strong sense of pressure, and the emotions in her beautiful eyes became complicated.

She used to think that she had grown up being pampered and therefore deserved everyone's kindness, but now it seems that it was just an equal exchange.

If that's the case, her situation in this family doesn't seem to be much better than Xu Yanshu's.

After regaining her senses, Xie Huanyu belatedly realized that her father's gaze had been fixed on her.

Realizing that the other person was waiting for her to respond, she took a deep breath before speaking.

"I understand, Dad. You're right!"
