Chapter Sixty-Two: First Courtesy, Then Force

Xie Huanyu initially wanted to avoid suspicion after receiving a call from Lu Guangxiong, but he insisted on inviting her, and the two eventually agreed to meet at the coffee shop downstairs in the company building.

"Huanyu, you are a smart child. You probably know why I called you here today."

Xie Huanyu nodded knowingly, "Uncle Lu, don't worry. Since A-Huai is innocent, he'll be out soon!"

"So you're just going to ignore it?" Lu Guangxiong's voice suddenly turned sharp, and he was visibly agitated. "Huanyu, you and Ahuai usually have such a good relationship. You can't just stand by and watch someone die like this, can you?"

He initially thought his son was overthinking things, but he didn't expect Xie Huanyu to actually intend to stand by and do nothing.

Seeing the person opposite her suddenly change their expression, Xie Huanyu was stunned for a moment, unable to process what was happening.

Previously, her impression of Uncle Lu was that he was gentle and kind with a touch of composure. Even though the outside world did not have a good opinion of him, she always respected Lu Guangxiong as an elder because of Ah Huai.

Before this, Xie Huanyu had never seen him so out of control, as if he were about to devour her alive at any moment.

Xie Huanyu frowned slightly and asked noncommittally, "Uncle Lu, are you blaming me?"

"Although I believe that Ah Huai did nothing, it is really inconvenient for me to come forward as Yan Shu's family member at the moment."

She understands the other person's current anxiety, but she will not allow anyone to morally blackmail her.

"So you mean if Ah Huai really did something, you'll just watch him get sent to jail by Xu Yanshu?"

Xie Huanyu's expression changed drastically upon hearing this. Did this mean that it was really Ah Huai who caused Grandma to faint? Or was Uncle Lu saying this on purpose to force her to step in?

“The innocent are innocent. Ah Huai repeatedly assured me that Grandma’s fainting had nothing to do with her, so now…”

Lu Guangxiong waved his hand dismissively, "Huanyu, does it matter whether it matters or not?"

"That old woman is already dead. People can't come back to life. It's not worth making Ah Huai go to jail for a few more years because of this!"

When Ah Huai first told him about this, he didn't take it seriously at all, thinking that there would be no trouble if the dead had no evidence. But he never expected that the sanatorium would have surveillance cameras!

He had already consulted a lawyer. This matter could be a big deal or a small deal; the key was whether Xie Huanyu was willing to stand up for A Huai.

What does it mean to say that you're already dead anyway?

Xie Huanyu couldn't stand it anymore and immediately stood up from her seat. Then she saw Lu Guangxiong slam the coffee down on the table.

"Huanyu, since things have come to this, I'll be frank. You have to help us whether you want to or not, because it's something you owe the Lu family."

"Leaving aside Ah Huai's devotion to you, do you know how many times your father has made things difficult for us behind our backs? Ah Huai never mentions it to avoid you arguing with your father."

Even when we were forced into bankruptcy, Ah Huai and I never said a harsh word to you!

But these are two different things...

Xie Huanyu frowned slightly in disagreement, but her heart softened somewhat as a result.

Lu Guangxiong softened his tone at the right moment, "Huanyu, don't blame your uncle for speaking too harshly. Look, Ahuai has already been in there for ten days."

"You should know Ah Huai's character. How could he intentionally hurt an old man? It's probably just a coincidence!"

"Mr. Xu has always had some complaints about Ah Huai, so it's hard to guarantee that he won't deliberately harp on this matter!"

So, did Ah Huai actually do anything to Grandma?!

Xie Huanyu hesitated, knowing that such questions should only be answered by the person involved.

"I understand what you mean, I'll handle it accordingly!" After saying that, Xie Huanyu turned and left the coffee shop.

It's not accurate to say that Xu Yanshu was deliberately making trouble for A Huai; anyone would want to find out the truth about such a matter.

Based on her understanding of Lu Huai, he certainly wouldn't have intentionally hurt her grandmother. However, as the only person to enter the room that day, he inevitably bore some responsibility and suspicion.

Xie Huanyu's thoughts were in complete disarray the whole way there, and the moment he arrived at his office, the internal phone on his desk rang.

"Hello, is this Miss Xie Huanyu?"

"I am!"

"This is indeed the Kyoto Police Station. Mr. Lu Huai would like to meet with you privately. Would it be convenient for you to come over?"

Xie Huanyu also had something she wanted to ask Lu Huai in person, so she nodded and agreed, "Okay, I'll be right there!"

...

In the interrogation room, Lu Huai and Xie Huanyu were separated by a table.

Looking at the other person's obviously haggard face, Xie Huanyu couldn't help but feel a little sorry for him, but she didn't forget her main purpose for coming here.

"Ah Huai, I'm willing to believe you, but now you absolutely must tell me the truth!"

Not only did he not tell me in time that he had been to the sanatorium, but so many days have passed, and he must have noticed that the earring was missing, yet he still didn't mention it to me.

If you really want to believe it, then why has she been so reluctant to come forward and bail herself out?

Lu Huai secretly scoffed at this statement, but he couldn't afford to easily break ties with Xie Huanyu right now.

"I truly didn't mean to hurt Grandma, but she just asked me if I liked you!"

What? Xie Huanyu's eye twitched uncontrollably. She was momentarily stunned before realizing what was happening. "You wouldn't happen to be..."

“Huanyu, I really couldn’t lie in that situation, and Grandma didn’t react much after I told her, so I never expected that she would faint after I left.”

So how did Grandma realize that Ah Huai liked her?

Xie Huanyu frowned slightly. Xu Yanshu would never bring it up on his own initiative. Apart from visiting her grandmother with Ah Huai before, she had never mentioned Lu Huai in front of the old lady again.

Ah Huai has admitted that he likes her, so Grandma will inevitably overthink things and get emotionally agitated...

“Yu Bao, I didn’t mean to hide anything from you. It’s just that I’ve been thinking about it over and over again these past few days and I realized that this matter might have upset Grandma.”

"So that's how it is," Xie Huanyu nodded in understanding. "So Ah Huai really didn't mean to hurt Grandma."

However, it can't be said that he really had nothing to do with the matter at all...

Seeing that the woman remained silent, Lu Huai suddenly panicked and spoke again to himself, "Yu Bao, you will definitely get me out of here, right?"

"If necessary, I'm willing to do anything to compensate Xu Yanshu, but I really don't want to be locked up here any longer." [Still asking for votes, Xiaxia~]
