Chapter Fifty-Six: Speaking Up for a Plea

Not wanting to give anyone anything to gossip about, Xu Yanshu quickly returned to work at the group and began shuttling between the company and the hospital.

That day, he had to go back to his apartment because of some important documents, but he didn't expect to run into Xie Huanyu who was returning from outside.

"Didn't Dad arrange a caregiver for you? You don't actually need to work so hard!" Seeing Xu Yanshu's haggard appearance, Xie Huanyu frowned slightly and unconsciously reminded him.

I don't understand why this man is so stubborn. The company's affairs are not easy to handle, but he still insists on taking care of his grandmother himself.

If he hadn't spoken so definitively, she might not have been truly unwilling to share some of the burden with him.

No one feels as at ease taking care of you as you do when you're watching over yourself, especially since it's someone arranged by Xie Junyang...

Xu Yanshu naturally couldn't actually say those words aloud; he simply nodded noncommittally and then continued organizing the documents in his hands.

"Um... how's the investigation going?" Xie Huanyu asked tentatively after a moment's hesitation, her eyes flickering for a fleeting instant.

Xu Yanshu paused slightly, then looked up at Xie Huanyu, "The case has been officially filed, but there's still no news!"

The fingerprints on the wheelchair have already been confirmed, and Lu Huai will probably be arrested soon. I'm just saying this to avoid alerting him.

"Why don't we just let it go? I think this was probably an accident. Grandma is such a gentle person, she probably wouldn't want things to escalate!"

"Why? You were the one who suggested I investigate the matter thoroughly."

Xu Yanshu asked the question knowingly, probably because she also realized that the matter was related to Lu Huai, which is why she was using such a high-sounding reason to persuade herself to let things go.

He has already consulted a lawyer, and based on the fingerprints on the earring and the investigation report provided by the sanatorium, Lu Huai can be detained.

However, to convict him, more concrete and effective evidence is needed; otherwise, there's no way to really do anything to Lu Huai.

Xie Huanyu awkwardly turned her face to the other side, and stammered an explanation, "I... I was just saying that, there's no reason why!"

She suddenly regretted bringing it up.

Since Ah Huai is so certain that his grandmother's fainting has nothing to do with him, the innocent will clear themselves. Even if Xu Yanshu knows that Ah Huai went there that day, it doesn't matter. At most, Ah Huai will be asked to cooperate with the investigation.

But now that he's asking this, it seems like he's deliberately protecting Ah Huai...

"Really? I thought you were feeling guilty," Xu Yanshu said, narrowing his eyes and speaking with an ambiguous tone, as he moved closer to Xie Huanyu. "If this really is related to Lu Huai, then you..."

Sensing the underlying meaning in those words, Xie Huanyu felt a surge of annoyance and immediately interrupted without further ado.

"Everyone has to pay the price for their actions, and no one is an exception. I'm just showing concern, so there's no need for you to be sarcastic!"

Is that so?

Xu Yanshu smiled noncommittally, but her actions were not as upright as her words suggested.

"Thank you for your concern. I'll let you know as soon as there's any progress. I'll be going now!"

Watching the man walk out like that, Xie Huanyu was inexplicably furious. He came and went as he pleased. What did he take this place for?

And she really shouldn't have asked that question just now, giving Xu Yanshu a chance to speak ill of her.

Xu Yanshu had originally planned to go back to the company to work overtime and process documents, but after this commotion, he lost his mood and simply went back to the hospital.

Xu Yanshu noticed someone standing at the ward door from afar. He wondered who it was, but upon recognizing Lu Huai, he immediately flew into a rage and rushed forward.

What are you doing here?

Lu Huai remained calm and raised an eyebrow dismissively before asking, "Xu Yanshu, is it really necessary for you to be like this? I've only come to visit Grandma!"

Anger burned fiercely in his eyes, and Xu Yanshu gritted his teeth.

Now that things have come to this, this bastard still dares to come here. At this moment, he felt like killing him.

Noticing the other person's earring out of the corner of her eye, Xu Yanshu could no longer contain herself and grabbed Lu Huai's collar.

Do you really think I can't do anything to you?

So the earring is indeed in Xu Yanshu's possession now.

This sudden violence confirmed Lu Huai's suspicions. He then calmly pulled the other person's hand away and whispered in a low voice, "..."

"You can't fight against the powerful next door, do you think you can beat the Xie family?"

“You surnamed Lu, you’re all barefoot and have nothing to lose,” Xu Yanshu retorted defiantly, his gaze growing colder. His sinister expression made him look like a devil. “As long as you pay the price for your actions, I’m willing to die with you!”

His grandmother was his last line of defense, and all his previous restraint was for her sake.

That damned guy dared to hurt Grandma. I'll make him pay the price, even if it means sacrificing myself.

Lu Huai's pupils contracted slightly; he was startled for a moment, but after recovering, he gave a disdainful sneer.

"Who do you think you are, to talk to me about the end of our mission? Xu Yanshu, people are divided into high and low, noble and lowly. If you really don't understand, you can look in the mirror!"

Enraged, Xu Yanshu suddenly raised his fist, about to smash it into Lu Huai's face, when the old man's attending physician walked over from the other side.

"Mr. Xu, what's going on?"

Xu Yanshu finally snapped out of his anger. He bypassed Lu Huai and went to the doctor, politely asking, "..."

"Dr. Gao, is there anything I can help you with?"

"I recently discovered that your grandmother has symptoms of insufficient blood supply to the brain. The longer she remains in a coma, the greater the pressure on her brain. Therefore, we must wake her up as soon as possible, otherwise her life may be in danger!"

That's really true.

Xu Yanshu's face turned ashen instantly, and in his daze, he completely forgot to respond to the doctor.

He was well aware of his grandmother's health condition. He had been worried that such a long period of sleep would take a toll on her body, so in addition to wiping her hands and washing her face these past few days, he had also been intentionally talking to her...

Knowing when to stop, and having confirmed everything, Lu Huai naturally wouldn't risk further trouble. He withdrew his gaze and turned to leave.

"Mr. Xu!" Seeing that Xu Yanshu was lost in thought, Dr. Gao waved his hand in front of him before continuing, "So you can try to communicate with your patients more often."

"We will continue to research treatment options in order to better help the elderly recover!"

Xu Yanshu took a deep breath to suppress his emotions and said as calmly as possible, "Okay, I understand, thank you, doctor!" [Please continue to vote~~]
