Chapter 69
She spoke casually, but thinking of that domineering kiss just now, Qiao Yu shuddered and nodded quickly.
The girl's dark eyes still held a hint of tears. Because of her fair skin, the blush on her cheeks was more pronounced than usual. Her slightly upturned eyes carried a touch of grievance, making her exceptionally endearing even without her eyes turning red.
Lu Shangyi stared at her for a long time, then suddenly strode closer, forcing her into a cramped corner. She looked like a pet that was extremely nervous when it encountered a large dog, its eyes widening in fear and dread.
Qiao Yu's long, black hair was scattered, with a few unruly strands clinging to her fair neck, drawing attention to that area.
Lu Shangyi's gaze was indifferent, but every inch of skin she stared at unconsciously became hot and burning. After a few breaths, Qiao Yu felt as if her whole body was on fire. She moved her fingers uncomfortably and nervously swallowed, "I know."
The tone lacked confidence, yet it seemed to convey a hint of anticipation and restless excitement.
Lu Shangyi stared intently at her, and the already tense body instantly stiffened even more, her clear black and white eyes widening innocently. Slightly narrowing his long, narrow eyes, Lu Shangyi gazed at her without moving.
Qiao Yu felt like she could hardly breathe. She frowned slightly and blinked. She pretended that her legs went weak and she slid to the ground.
Lu Shangyi's long, slender hand immediately pulled her close, effortlessly drawing her into his body. His aura vanished instantly, clearly indicating he wasn't going to hold it against her. "Good to know."
Qiao Yu held onto the sofa beside her and nodded obediently.
Releasing her, grabbing his coat, Lu Shangyi glanced at her one last time before leaving. Qiao Yu quickly stood up straight to prove her innocence. Once she was sure he was really gone, Qiao Yu raised her hand to touch her hot, slightly swollen lips, her eyes, hidden by long eyelashes, revealing no emotion.
The phone had stopped ringing. When Qiao Yu picked it up, she found that it was indeed Jiang Mei calling. After hesitating for a moment about how to tell her that she wouldn't be going tomorrow, she moved her finger and dialed back.
"Sorry, the number you dialed is busy. Please try again later..."
Surprised, Qiao Yu had no choice but to put down her phone for the time being, planning to talk to the other person again in a few minutes when they were less busy.
Jiang Mei was a little surprised when she answered the phone. Lu Shangyi rarely called her, especially so late at night. Although she was somewhat puzzled, she answered anyway, her voice tinged with doubt: "Auntie?"
A woman's calm voice came over, "Make preparations tonight. Tomorrow you'll be going with Chu Mi to meet a wealthy businessman."
Although Chu Mi wasn't a top-tier female celebrity, she was tactful, knew her place, and was also pleasing to the eye, so wealthy men were happy to invite her to their parties and events. Moreover, before the Chu family's downfall, Chu Mi was a pampered young lady with no shortage of suitors.
With Chu Mi around, even business negotiations go much more smoothly.
Because she understood this principle, Jiang Mei was even more puzzled, but she didn't show it. She simply said, "I'm sorry, Auntie, I have an appointment with someone tomorrow."
The other party wasn't angry; a barely perceptible chuckle seemed to come through the phone. "They're currently in a hurry to find a new partner. As long as you show enough sincerity, everything is negotiable." Lu Shangyi's voice was calm, but it made Jiang Mei's heart skip a beat.
"No news of his troubles has spread yet, but things might change after tomorrow."
Jiang Mei's fingers clenched tightly without her realizing it. She fell silent. Lu Shangyi didn't urge her. "Think about it carefully. There's no rush now."
After hanging up the phone, Jiang Mei could hear her heart pounding wildly, as if it were about to burst out of her chest. A voice inside her urged her frantically, instantly taking over all her reason. Taking a difficult breath, Jiang Mei slowly picked up her phone.
A moment later, Qiao Yu's voice rang out, "Are you home yet?"
"We've arrived." Her voice was unconsciously lowered, and Jiang Mei pursed her lips. After a long while, she finally spoke with difficulty, "Yuyu, I might not be able to accompany you tomorrow."
Qiao Yu's eyes lit up. Such a good thing?!
She was wondering how to tell the other person. Trying to suppress the smirk on her face, Qiao Yu cleared her throat, her voice tinged with hurt, "Why? We just agreed on this."
"I'm sorry." Jiang Mei lowered her voice even further, her tone almost pleading, "How about I make it up to you next time? Whatever you want to eat, whatever you want to do, I'll do it all for you."
Qiao Yu reluctantly accepted, "Alright then."
Jiang Mei breathed a sigh of relief, but then heard the person on the other end ask warily, "You're not going to be with someone else tomorrow, are you?"
"No." Jiang Mei denied it without hesitation, her tone firm and persuasive.
Qiao Yu didn't think much of it, simply basking in the joy of finally being free from this dilemma. Jiang Mei, holding her phone, slowly calmed down, got up and opened the safe. Staring at the various documents and evidence inside, her eyes grew increasingly dark.
The banquet tomorrow will begin in the afternoon at a hotel owned by the Lu family. After gently closing the safe, Jiang Mei turned her head expressionlessly and strode out of the room.
Today, Qiao Yu was going to visit relatives with her parents for the New Year, so she was woken up early in the morning. She lazily yawned, and before she could even close her mouth, her second aunt quietly came over and whispered, "Yu Yu, I found out that Lu Shangyi is going to a banquet tonight."
She paused, then said excitedly, "This is a great opportunity!"
Aunt Qiao was worried that Qiao Yu was too inexperienced and didn't know how to please women, so she couldn't help but share all her experience with her. "Now that Lu Shangyi is the vice president, how can you do business without drinking? Tonight, there will definitely be a lot of people going to toast her. Although I heard that she can hold her liquor quite well, even if she can, she will eventually get a little drunk after a few rounds of drinks."
"So that will be your chance to shine," Aunt Qiao said righteously. "The hero saving the damsel in distress has always been a useful tactic, so you absolutely mustn't miss such a great opportunity."
After saying that, she handed Qiao Yu a package, "Here, I've already prepared the hangover medicine for you in advance."
Without thinking twice, Aunt Qiao handed the hangover medicine to Qiao Yu. She patted Qiao Yu's shoulder kindly, then solemnly admonished her, "You must not drink too much when the time comes."
Qiao Yu looked at her, then at the medicine in her hand, and said, "Thank you, Second Aunt."
Aunt Qiao immediately beamed with joy and said repeatedly, "No need to thank me, no need to thank me. Just remember me after you've accomplished your goal."
"That's natural."
Aunt Qiao glanced at the two of them indifferently, her well-maintained face revealing no emotion. Only a slight, dismissive smile played on her lips, revealing that she didn't take their little actions seriously at all. After giving her instructions, Aunt Qiao turned around, stared at the arrogant woman, and snorted coldly.
No matter how cunning you are as the third wife, even if you have another son, you'll still have to obediently follow my lead.
There is no reason why the third wife should be superior to the second wife.
Qiao Yu knew that Lu Shangyi was absolutely incapable of getting drunk; she was so charming that even if all the alphas in the room were drunk, she wouldn't. However, she was still interested in the lively atmosphere of the banquet, so Qiao Yu agreed anyway. Aunt Qiao was very happy and pulled Qiao Yu aside to have a heart-to-heart talk. Judging from her demeanor, anyone who didn't know better would think that Qiao Yu was her biological daughter.
Madam Qiao glanced at Second Aunt Qiao, then at Qiao Yu, and looked away with a normal expression, not paying much attention.
Because she had promised to accompany Lu Shangyi to get an IV drip, she quickly drove to Lu Shangyi's house to pick her up as soon as she finished lunch. The woman was dressed smartly and neatly today; the simple lines of her clothes accentuated her tall and slender figure, and the faint scent of wild roses emanating from her made her irresistibly alluring.
Qiao Yu got out of the car and opened the door for her, then used her hand to protect Lu Shangyi's head, saying, "Sister, take it easy."
Lu Shangyi glanced at her and said, "Okay." Then she added, "Let's not go to the hospital for now. Take me somewhere else."
Lu Shangyi was carrying her laptop and iPad the whole way, clearly very busy, so Qiao Yu wisely refrained from speaking to disturb her. The car was very quiet, so quiet that Qiao Yu felt a little uneasy. While waiting at a traffic light, Qiao Yu couldn't help but secretly glance at her.
She hadn't done anything particularly blatant, but after a moment, the woman looked up and said, "Aren't you leaving?"
The moment the words left her lips, the lights switched instantly, leaving Qiao Yu utterly shocked. She knew the exact timings of the traffic lights?!
She stood there, stunned. Lu Shangyi raised an eyebrow slightly, instantly shutting down his laptop, as if he was about to lean in and discipline her. Qiao Yu jolted awake, quickly grabbing the steering wheel. "Let's go, let's go."
Lu Shangyi finally stopped moving. Qiao Yu noticed that Lu Shangyi's deep eyes were staring straight at her, her gaze intense and passionate. Then, Lu Shangyi's nonchalant voice drifted into her ears from the side, "If you like to watch." After a pause, Lu Shangyi's lips curled into a smile, "I'll let you watch to your heart's content when we get home."
Qiao Yu: "!!!"
How could she dare?!
She suddenly realized that ever since they had been intimate, the woman seemed to have become more unrestrained, exuding aggression at all times.
Qiao Yu swallowed hard and politely declined, "No, thank you."
Lu Shangyi didn't reply, but instead slowly made a few more calls to assign tasks. Qiao Yu listened intently for a while, then suddenly realized that the Lu family might be about to undergo a major upheaval.
The woman, who had been lying low for so long, finally drew her sword, ready to catch everyone off guard.
She couldn't help but steal a glance at the other woman, only to be caught red-handed again. This time, as soon as Qiao Yu parked the car, the woman leaned over and attacked, grabbing her pointed chin with one hand and the back of her head with the other, forcefully prying open her teeth without any rhyme or reason.
The faint, hot scent fell on her skin, and the close proximity allowed Qiao Yu to smell an even stronger sandalwood fragrance emanating from Lu Shangyi.
As their lips pressed together, Qiao Yu was suddenly bitten. She opened her mouth wide in pain, trying to make a sound, but the other woman took the opportunity to invade, intensifying her attack and leaving her defenseless. All the faint sounds were trapped in her throat until, after a moment, the woman released her, her expression indifferent, "Drive."
Qiao Yu's cheeks were flushed, and she hadn't yet recovered from the ambiguity of the moment. Upon hearing this, she subconsciously uttered an "oh," and quickly sat up straight, staring intently ahead.
Her heart pounded wildly, as if it would burst from her chest. Qiao Yu gripped the steering wheel tightly, her breathing still unsteady. Just as she was trying to calm herself, the woman's words instantly threw her into a panic again. Lu Shangyi glanced at her gripping hand and smiled, "Never tried kissing in a car before?"
Qiao Yu: "...!"
Her ears turned bright red unintentionally, and Qiao Yu decided to pretend she hadn't heard the other person's sarcastic remarks.
Lu Shangyi didn't mind that she was ignoring him and picked up her iPad again to work.
Qiao Yu felt this was the most difficult driving experience she had ever had. As soon as she arrived at the hotel, she hurriedly got out of the car to breathe in the fresh air, almost suffocating from holding her breath. Although she knew Lu Shangyi's personality well before, his actions these past two days had completely overturned her understanding of him.
After wiping her lips, Qiao Yu took out a mirror and carefully touched up her makeup. While she was doing so, the woman stood three steps away from her, quietly watching her.
Her hand trembled involuntarily, and Qiao Yu pretended to walk forward, silently avoiding the woman's gaze that she couldn't help but notice.
After taking a few steps, I unexpectedly encountered someone I didn't expect.
The moment Jiang Mei bumped into Qiao Yu, she panicked instantly, "Yu Yu..."
Qiao Yu looked up at her in surprise, then glanced at Mu Siyan beside her, and then suddenly realized, "You're here too."
"No, I..." Jiang Mei was speechless for a moment, and it took her a long time to regain her composure and voice. "I came to see Sister Chu." She subconsciously distanced herself from Mu Siyan, and her intention to distance herself was very clear. "We met when we parked the car just now."
The other party showed no respect whatsoever, so Mu Siyan forced a smile and said, "That's right, I was also very surprised."
After speaking, Mu Siyan subconsciously glanced at the woman with a very high presence behind Qiao Yu.
She was pure and immaculate, with a cold and indifferent expression.
But there seems to be a faint hint of... good mood?
