Chapter 77
An Yilin was also stunned.
He clearly recognized the three women. A flicker of panic crossed his eyes, but he quickly regained his composure and stood up warmly. "Mr. Ye, Miss Song, Miss Lu." Staring at the three gentle and harmless women, An Yilin glanced at the bewildered Qiao Yu and suddenly felt somewhat disdainful of her status.
With what he thought was a polite smile on his handsome face, An Yilin invited, without much hope, "Meeting is fate, why don't the three of you stay and have a meal together?"
Looking at the waiter who was stuck behind her, An Yilin smiled brightly, her tone slightly urgent, "The dishes have just started to be served."
He was afraid the three of them wouldn't agree, so he stared intently at Ye Yunjian, as if acknowledging that she was the most decisive one among them. Ye Yunjian raised an eyebrow slightly, naturally happy to accept this offer, "Okay."
The moment her voice rang out, Qiao Yu felt a surge of despair.
She came here to fry fish, and the fish were about to take the bait, so why did Ye Yunjian, Lu Shangyi, and Song Wanzi have to interfere at this crucial moment?
Staring at the three women with satisfied expressions, Qiao Yu propped her forehead up, her vision blurring. She knew she'd had a vague, uneasy feeling before leaving the house today; it turned out it was all coming true in this situation.
An Yilin was very pleased and considerately asked the waiter to bring a few more pairs of chopsticks. He then picked up the menu again and handed it to Ye Yunjian to order. Ye Yunjian casually took the menu, but paused slightly as his gaze swept over the man. "Have we met somewhere before?"
An Yilin was stunned, her expression freezing for a moment. "How could this be?"
He spoke calmly, "I grew up abroad and only recently decided to return to China to develop my career." A look of curiosity crossed his face. "Could it be because Mr. Ye has met my mother before?"
“I look nine-tenths like my mother. Many people say that I look exactly like my mother when she was young,” he said with a relaxed smile.
Ye Yunjian seemed thoughtful, but didn't think much of it, "Perhaps."
Only Lu Shangyi glanced at An Yilin with a knowing look, then looked away with an ambiguous expression. Qiao Yu stared anxiously at the three uninvited guests. With Lu Shangyi and the others around, she certainly couldn't openly and brazenly try to get information out of them anymore.
Qiao Yu suddenly felt very worried, so much so that she lost her appetite.
Watching her listlessly pick at the two small pieces of meat in her bowl, Song Wanzi pursed her lips and smiled lightly, "What's wrong? Is this meal that Young Master An treated you to not to your liking?"
With a single sentence, she effortlessly drew everyone's attention to Qiao Yu. Qiao Yu paused in her chopsticks and quickly shook her head in denial: "No." Meeting An Yilin's slightly disappointed gaze, Qiao Yu explained: "I just didn't have much of an appetite since I just woke up."
Ye Yunjian squinted at her, "You have no appetite but you still ordered so much food?"
Qiao Yu: "..." This is awkward.
Clearing her throat, Qiao Yu feigned composure and forced a gesture of dignity, "I was worried that Young Master An wouldn't have enough to eat." She blinked at the slightly surprised yet enlightened man, smiled gently, and picked up some food for him, saying, "Young Master An, please eat more."
The girl's voice was so gentle, like she was coaxing a lover, that it inexplicably sounded jarring.
An Yilin was just immersed in Qiao Yu's gentle advances when he was suddenly awakened by a chill that swept over him. He looked up blankly and saw that Ye Yunjian, Lu Shangyi, and Song Wanzi all looked normal, without the slightest abnormality. However, it was as if the air conditioning in the private room had been turned on, causing him to shiver involuntarily.
After enduring it for a little over half a minute, An Yilin couldn't take it anymore and called the waiter to turn up the temperature in the private room.
Lu Shangyi looked quietly at that pretty boy face that women liked, her voice devoid of emotion, "Are you cold?"
"No, no, no," An Yilin hurriedly explained. He wasn't cold, but he wasn't cold either; in fact, he was quite hot. However, for some reason, only his back felt chilly, and even the hairs on his back seemed to stand on end. An Yilin found it strange, but couldn't figure out why, so he simply gave up trying to think about it.
He felt that it was possible that he had been overworked recently, which had caused his physical condition to deteriorate.
He didn't even consider any other possibilities.
Lu Shangyi curled her lips slightly and called to the waiter who was about to leave, "Then let's turn the room temperature down a bit." Looking at An Yilin's surprised face, she smiled faintly, "I feel a little hot."
An Yilin naturally dared not object to her suggestion, especially since she wanted to make a good profit off Lu Shangyi. So An Yilin convinced herself: it's just a meal, right? It's not like I'm going to eat with him for hours, so I can just bear with it.
Little did he know that he would endure this for four or five hours, and he was almost frozen solid.
Envious as Lu Shangyi took off his coat and draped it over Qiao Yu, who was also feeling cold, An Yilin almost lost his composure as a wealthy young master and nearly snatched something from the frail EGA.
He sniffed and realized he might be catching a cold.
Pressing his forehead against his skin, he felt as if he had a fever; his whole body was burning hot, and he was still somewhat disoriented.
Qiao Yu stared at An Yilin's pitiful state, being tormented by Lu Shangyi, and couldn't help but shudder. She reaffirmed her belief once again: "Never mess with Lu Shangyi." Seeing that she wouldn't be able to get any information today, Qiao Yu simply gave up and focused on enjoying her food.
Eating while watching Lu Shangyi bully An Yilin so much that she couldn't fight back was quite an interesting thing to do.
A moment later, however, she suddenly realized. After a brief silence, she couldn't help but sigh softly. They say one is influenced by one's company, and the old saying is indeed true. How long had she been with Lu Shangyi? Her heart had already unknowingly tipped in his favor.
Not only that, she even felt that Lu Shangyi's methods were too mild.
After a moment of reflection, Qiao Yu was startled again. The villain was herself?!
Since she was already a villain, Qiao Yu decided to go all the way. She took out her phone and opened Lu Shenghui's chat window after a long time, and typed two sentences: "Brother-in-law, do you know An Yilin?"
"Sister Lu, Aunt Ye and Sister Song met with this man named An Yilin today." Qiao Yu made up a story so convincingly that she almost believed it herself. "However, they didn't talk about anything useful at the dinner table, so I don't know An Yilin's purpose."
Lu Shenghui saw Qiao Yu's message the moment it arrived, and frowned suspiciously. He had asked Qiao Yu to gather information for him, but she was only interested in working for him sporadically. She never showed any interest in Lu Shangyi, let alone any trace of him.
Now that she's suddenly offering me information so readily, she might just be setting a trap for me, just like her cunning parents.
But Lu Shenghui was unwilling to let go of any news related to Lu Shangyi. After thinking for a moment, he called his assistant and said, "Go and find out about a person named An Yilin." Lu Shenghui coldly ordered, "I need all the information about this person within ten minutes."
Staring at the chat box, Lu Shenghui thought for a moment and then replied with "I understand".
Qiao Yu stared at the screen, a smile playing on her lips. Whether Lu Shenghui believed her or not, the fish was already lingering near the bait. Even if it didn't take the bait, she wouldn't lose out; it was a free lunch anyway.
Qiao Yu stretched, feeling refreshed. The moment she moved, all three women turned to look at her. Her outstretched hand paused, and Qiao Yu sheepishly withdrew it, then carefully covered her mouth and yawned.
Tears welled up in Qiao Yu's eyes without her noticing, and she obediently maintained her posture, not daring to make any rash moves.
The girl's eyes were innocent and clear, with a soft and captivating shimmer. Even without her eyes reddening, she already looked pitiful and endearing. Realizing there was a man there who seemed to be an eyesore, Song Wanzi gently raised her beautifully shaped eyes. "I'll leave you alone today."
"No, no, no," An Yilin quickly said. The moment Song Wanzi spoke, he felt as if he had heard heavenly music. He stared at Song Wanzi eagerly, wanting to hear her say, "That's enough for today, we'll see each other another day."
Unfortunately, the other person didn't understand his feelings at all. Not only did they ramble on and on with a lot of nonsense, but they also dawdled for another half hour before finally deciding to leave.
An Yilin felt like she was sitting on pins and needles, and was already impatient and wanted to run away.
Making money is important, but his life is obviously more important. Money can be earned again, but life is only once. Besides, there's plenty of time in the future. Even if he can't make money off these three women, there's still the young and inexperienced Qiao Yu to fleece.
The Qiao family's business has been doing well lately. With a little effort, they could easily rake in tens of millions.
Thinking about all this, An Yilin finally felt that her suffering today had not been in vain.
After opening the door, An Yilin left impatiently. His hurried steps made it seem as if some wolves or tigers were chasing him. Qiao Yu sighed again. Even an alpha was afraid of these three women; how could she, an ega, not be afraid?
It's so hard to make a living in this world.
An Yilin was already out of sight. Only then did Lu Shangyi and Song Wanzi turn around, lower their heads slightly, and quietly watch her, clearly intending to settle accounts with her. Qiao Yu was startled and subconsciously hid a little distance behind Ye Yunjian, her face full of innocence, "Aunt Ye, Sister Lu, you left so early today, I didn't even have time to see you off."
She was trying to change the subject, but Song Wanzi twitched her ears and accurately caught the key point in her words.
After a brief moment of doubt, her gaze settled on Qiao Yu with certainty. "They went to your house last night?" Not only did they not invite her, but you also invited them to stay overnight?
When Qiao Yu met Song Wanzi's cool eyes, her heart skipped a beat. It was all over.
Another older sister is going to be hard to appease.
